We are living in strange times. University of Washington climate scientist Mark Albright was dismissed on March 12 from his position as associate state climatologist, just weeks after exposing false claims of shrinking glaciers in the Cascade Mountains.

Embarrassing Data

Albright sent emails to his colleagues informing them of the factual data.

Albright noted in his emails the current snow pack is only marginally lower than the long-term average since 1943. Moreover, the Cascade Mountains snow pack has been growing since the late 1970s.

Albright's emails were particularly embarrassing to Philip Mote, the Washington state climatologist.

Pagdilao said the police department does not discriminate against gays, but will not hesitate to fire those who misbehave.

The Philippines has a reputation for tolerance toward LGBT people; however, a party representing lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered people was recently refused registration for May congressional elections on the grounds that it does not have nationwide chapters. Being a former liberal Democrat, I can vouch for much of this. The general ethos of the leftist mind necessitates that you must resist restraining (conservative) impulses. Logic and reason are restraining impulses. Since modern liberalism is primarily a state of unrestrained emotional turbulence, the liberal must find reasons for excusing his most base emotional instincts and instead embrace the "liberation" that comes from not being able to summon reason to control your impulses. Many consequently fall prey to the tempting natural impulse of letting emotion override logic and reason. The liberal creed dictates that feelings are more important than anything, and that they shall hold court over reason.

Healthy new-born babies may have been killed in Ukraine to feed a flourishing international trade in stem cells, evidence obtained by the BBC suggests.

Disturbing video footage of post-mortem examinations on dismembered tiny bodies raises serious questions about what happened to them.

Ukraine has become the self-styled stem cell capital of the world.

There is a trade in stem cells from aborted foetuses, amid unproven claims they can help fight many diseases.

But now there are claims that stem cells are also being harvested from live babies.

The pictures show organs, including brains, have been stripped - and some bodies dismembered.

A senior British forensic pathologist says he is very concerned to see bodies in pieces - as that is not standard post-mortem practice.

It could possibly be a result of harvesting stem cells from bone marrow.

House republicans have decided, correctly, to force a floor vote for William “In his freezer” Jefferson Democrat Louisiana thus getting an open record of all members who approve of appointing Jefferson to the homeland security committee.

Pelosi ousted Jefferson from his seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee in June after federal investigators raided his Capitol Hill office. In an earlier search of his home, $90,000 was found in a freezer. The money allegedly was accepted in a bribery sting involving an African technology company.

Before the election, they made a big point of pulling him from Ways and Means and after the election, they put him on Homeland Security."

Well Congressmen you know exactly where he’ll hide those homeland security secrets “IN HIS FREEZER” Of course. On top of the bribery charge there’s his use of National Guard troops during the chaos of Katrina to “check” on his home.

Iran Will Not Suspend Uranium Enrichment

Iran's foreign minister reiterated Tuesday that his country will never again suspend uranium enrichment, dismissing the threat of further United Nations sanctions.

The Security Council imposed limited sanctions on Iran in December over its refusal to suspend enrichment and gave it a 60-day grace period to stop. That deadline expired last Wednesday.

The United States and some of its allies object to enrichment because they it is part of Iran's efforts to secretly build nuclear weapons. Enriched to a low level, uranium is used to produce nuclear fuel but highly enriched uranium can be used in an atomic bomb.

"I think the comments from Iran are very worrying ... because yet again they're indicating they want to defy the international community," he said at his monthly news conference. "I think we've got therefore to consider what more measures we take which we are now doing with our partners," he added.

The unfortunate thing is that many people still hold onto a ‘normal’ faith in science such that it can first find truth, then speak truth to power, and that truth-based policy will then follow. Fred Singer has this view of science; so does Mark Lynas. That is why they reduce their exchange to one about scientific truth rather than about values, perspectives and political preferences. If the battle of science is won, then the war of values will be won.

Book review: Unstoppable Global Warming - every 1,500 years

Is this a book about science? It is certainly written by scientists, one a climate physicist (Professor Fred Singer, an ex-US Government science advisor and outspoken critic of the idea that humans are warming the planet), the other a biologist. Its central thesis – the warming currently observed around the world is a function of a 1,500 year ‘unstoppable’ cycle in solar energy – is linked to evidence that most people would recognise as being generated by science. And the book is written as a scientific text, with citations to peer-reviewed articles, deference to numbers and adoption of technical terms. But whether this book is about science or about something else depends on what you believe science to be. One of the central reasons we disagree about climate change is because we have different conceptions of what science is and with what authority it speaks – in other words, how scientific ‘knowledge’ interacts with those other realms of understanding brought to us by politics, ethics and spirituality.
