"The latest target of the RIAA's ire is a 10-year-old girl in Oregon, who was 7 when the alleged infringement occurred, and whose disabled mother lives on Social Security. In Atlantic v. Andersen, an Oregon case that was widely reported in 2005 when the defendant counterclaimed against the RIAA under Oregon's RICO statute and other laws, the defendant's mother sought to limit the RIAA's deposition of the child to telephone or video-conference. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried to get Senate Republicans to allow former Vice President Al Gore to stage a global warming concert on Capitol grounds. But Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) objected to Reid's request

what Reid tried to do was get an unanimous consent agreement approving S. Con. Res. 24, which would permit Live Earth and the Alliance for Climate Protection, which Gore runs, to stage a July 7 concert on Capitol grounds

Live Earth is staging concerts that day on all seven continents, including Antarctica

Reid and Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) have introduced the resolution allowing the concert to take place (see below), and it was referred to the Rules Committee. It's still there, thanks to McConnell's objection, and he apparently wants the panel to look into the matter before he signs off on it.

Mailboxes Painted To Look Like R2-D2

An out-of-this-world figure has started showing up in place of some public mailboxes. R2-D2 has invaded Atlanta.

The US Postal Service has transformed mailboxes in Atlanta and 200 other cities across the country to look like the Star Wars droid. The mailboxes got their collective makeover on Friday.

But just what the Postal Service and Star Wars creator George Lucas are up to is still a secret.

Postal officials say the meaning of it all will be announced on March 28.

Officials said there are six R2-D2 mailboxes around the city.

They are at CNN Center on Centennial Olympic Park Drive, the corner of Peachtree Street and Baker Street, at Perimeter Mall on Dunwoody Village Parkway, on Alabama Street on the Underground Atlanta side, at Capitol Avenue and Mitchell Street, on the campus of Georgia State University and at Park Place and Edgewood.

clipper's remarks: Obviously the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood is way too violent. I think we should change it to a puppy as well. This article finally addresses the 500 pound gorilla in the room. It is high time we clean these "children's" stories up. We can no longer pretend these stories are not offensive and degrading to young girls.
We need children's stories that have absolutely no chance of offending anyone regardless of the child's gender, religion, or sexual orientation.

School Changes Name of Play to 'Three Little Puppies' to Avoid Offending Muslims

Little Red Riding Hood ... Hansel and Gretel ... the Three Little Puppies?

That's what one British school renamed the traditional Three Little Pigs story for a school play, so as not to offend Muslims in the community

Organizers of the children's musical theater performance changed the lyrics' character's names in a move some — including Muslims — are saying went too far.

"The vast majority of Muslims have no problem whatsoever with the Three Little Pigs. It's always been the traditional way of telling the story and I don't see why that should be changed," Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra from the Muslim Council of Britain told the Daily Mail, saying the name change was "bizarre."

Gill Goodswen, head teacher of Stile Common Junior School, defending the move.

She said: "We have to be sensitive if we want to be multicultural. It was felt it would be more responsible not to use the three little pigs."

Shut up and drink, Lilburn bar patrons told

Earlier, the city outlawed pool — the game that spelled trouble in the musical "The Music Man" — in its watering holes. Now it's also barring karaoke and just about any other party game from places that serve alcohol.

Karaoke can bring more than bad voices, Lilburn Mayor Jack Bolton said. It can bring bars.

"Our intention was always to just have alcohol in restaurants," Bolton said. "We don't want to have dance clubs, party clubs or bars. If it means being made fun of because we don't allow karaoke, that's fine, too."

Lilburn permits liquor licenses only for establishments in which 50 percent of sales comes from food. Bolton suspects the Sports Fan might not meet that standard, but proving that would be difficult. It is much easier to ban activities common to bars: card games, pool, video games, trivia nights and, yes, karaoke.
