Until the US has been in Iraq longer than in World War II

We're counting from the day Germany declared war on the US (December 11, 1941) to VE day (May 8, 1945). This is 1244 days. The Invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003 at 21:34 EST when the US began their first air strike on Baghdad.

On August 15, 2006 21:30 EST the United States will have been at war in Iraq longer than it was at war with Germany in World War II.

i am in love with my best friend. he is the sweetest guy (i'm a girl). but it doesn't stop with him, i really like my other really close guy friend. i would tell them, but it would ruin our friendships. i wish we all weren't christains or i'd fuck them both.

my hubby and i seperated a year ago because i was cheating on him and never told him. we got back together and now the man i cheated with wants me back and said he loves me, and i'm thinking about going back with him. i feel awful and don't want to hurt my hubby again.

I just finished watching Bridget Jones's Diary for the 2nd time. I'm a 27 year old guy, and I really liked it...and I can't wait to see the sequel.

2 years ago I lost my virginity to a one night stand. To make matters worse, he was way older than me and not that good looking. I wish I could take back what I did so that I could have saved myself for a very special guy.

Had I had a gun, I would likely have shot myself the other week. Depression is an odd state. I appreciate the good times as well as the bad, and that the when the good is really good it makes up for the bad being really bad.

Pope revisits his Hitler youth

Pope Benedict XVI has visited the former Nazi death camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau to finish his Polish visit. The German-born Pope prayed for peace in his native tongue during a somber ceremony.

"In a place like this, words fail," lamented the Pope. "In the end, there can only be a dread silence - a silence which is itself a heartfelt cry to God: Why, Lord, did you remain silent? How could you tolerate all this?"

Some might ask Pope Benny the same question, considering that he was formerly a member of the Hitler Youth, and watched Jews being herded into death camps while stationed in Hungary.

The prayer by God's Rottweiler was the first time he had publicly spoken German during his visit to Poland. There had been some uncertainty and controversy as to whether the Pope should speak in German while in the death camps. Some Jewish groups had said that speaking the language of the Nazis would insult the memory of the people murdered there.

The 79-year-old pontiff lit a candle in memory of the victims of Auschwitz, before meeting 32 survivors of the horrors. However, he made no apology on behalf of his German countrymen, and pointedly did not make a direct reference to anti-Semitism.

It is believed that at least 1.1 million people were killed in the death camps during the Holocaust, over 90% of whom were Jews.

The Four Legged Woman

Myrtle Corbin, was known as the Four-Legged Woman – however that moniker was slightly misleading. While at a glance one could plainly see four legs dangling beyond the hem of her dress – only one pair belonged to her, the other set to her dipygus twin sister. Born in Cleburne, Texan in 1868 - her condition was incredibly rare. The tiny body of her twin was only fully developed from the waist down and even then it was malformed – tiny and possessing only three toes on each foot. Myrtle was able to control the limbs of her sister but was unable to use them for walking and she herself had a difficult time getting around as she was born with a clubbed foot. Technically, the ‘Four-Legged Woman’ only had one good, usable leg.

Myrtle was a popular attraction with P.T. Barnum, and later with Ringling Bros. and Coney Island. Her popularity was likely linked to her showmanship – she would often dress the extra limbs with socks and shoes matching her own and this gave her a truly surreal appearance. Myrtle was so popular that she was able to earn as much as $450 dollars a week.

At the age of 19 Myrtle married a doctor named Clinton Bicknell. It was then that other aspects of her bizarre anatomy became evident. It seems that her twin sister was also fully sexually formed – thus Myrtle possessed two vaginas. She had four daughters and a son and it has been rumored that three of her children were born from one set of organs and two from the other. Whether this is true or not; it is medically possible. In Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine by George M. Gould and Walter L. Pyle it was observed that both vaginas menstruated – thus indicating both were possibly sexually functional.

Myrtle passed on May 6, 1928, surrounded by family and friends.

Bush has famously never vetoed a bill. This is because he prefers to simply nullify laws he doesn’t like with “signing statements.” Bush has issued over 700 such statements, twice as many as all previous presidents combined. A few examples of recently passed laws and their corresponding dismissals, courtesy of the Boston Globe:

Dec. 30, 2005: US interrogators cannot torture prisoners or otherwise subject them to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.

Bush's signing statement: The president, as commander in chief, can waive the torture ban if he decides that harsh interrogation techniques will assist in preventing terrorist attacks.

Dec. 30: When requested, scientific information ''prepared by government researchers and scientists shall be transmitted [to Congress] uncensored and without delay."

Dec. 23, 2004: Forbids US troops in Colombia from participating in any combat against rebels, except in cases of self-defense. Caps the number of US troops allowed in Colombia at 800.

Bush's signing statement: The president can tell researchers to withhold any information from Congress if he decides its disclosure could impair foreign relations, national security, or the workings of the executive branch.

Bush's signing statement: Only the president, as commander in chief, can place restrictions on the use of US armed forces, so the executive branch will construe the law ''as advisory in nature."

Munch painting stolen!

The Scream is the Norwegian painter's most iconic work

An Edvard Munch painting worth an estimated £70,000 has been stolen from a private home in southern Sweden.

Police tightened up border controls after the theft from the manor house near Horby, about 360 miles (580km) south of Stockholm.

"The thieves just broke open one of the doors, removed the painting and left," police spokesman Per Jansson told the Associated Press news agency.

A version of Munch's The Scream remains missing after being stolen in 2004.

Police said they did not know the title of the painting taken in the latest theft, which happened late on Tuesday.

Two masked armed robbers stole versions of The Scream and Madonna from the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway, in August 2004 as gallery visitors looked on.

The thieves have not been convicted and the paintings are still missing, despite an international search and the offer of a reward.

Earlier this month, three men were jailed for up to eight years for being accomplices to the heist.

The Norwegian artist died in 1944.

Without creativity we are nothing. But, when we step off onto those unexpected side roads that intersect the main arteries of our thinking, we are not welcome. Change is a threat to the world around us. Function creatively, and the world will certainly try to "weave a circle round [you] thrice." The creative daemon within us poses a threat that most people want to see sealed off.
