ARDJ (Augmented Reality DJ) is an experimental DJ control system that incorporates a simple and virtually no-cost interface into a digital music workstation, along with visual feedback making use of Augmented Reality technology.

By choosing which printed symbols are placed in the playing area, the user interactively controls what loops get played and how they get played.

Normally we don’t report on things like medical advances here at COED, but this was just a bit too SciFi awesome for me to pass up. Scientists have created contact lenses cultured from stems cell that have successfully cured blindness in patients in less than a month. And regardless of where you stand politically on the stem cell issue, there’s no denying how incredibly, amazingly awesome this is. Plus, the stem cells come straight from the patient’s own eye, so no dead future babies. High five!

Dramatic Ad Uses Eye-Tracking to Change Content

A new ad installation has gone up in Hamburg, Germany that uses eye-tracking technology to change the content. The ad for Amesty International exposes the problem of domestic violence with the tagline “It Happens When Nobody is Watching”. An eye tracking camera recognizes when someone is looking at the poster, and displays an image of a happy couple. When the ad is not being looked at, the image shifts to a man punching a woman. A slight delay allows the change to be viewed. It’s a very effective use of the technology that really helps get the message across.

Reality mining is becoming a big trend! Companies must be aware of that! Some great examples of reality mining are SoundSense and CenceMe! Your mobile phone as an intelligent piece of technology!

Some clever people from the Dartmouth College (Hanover) created software that uses the microphone of a cell phone to track and interpret a user's activity. Sounds great? Well it is. The software is called SoundSense and the software is also able to select the sounds and put them in different categories. If a sound is to difficult to analyze SoundSense asks the user to confirm a sound in a specific category and offers the option to label the sound by hand.
