Think about it. It was the Bush administration and not Saddam that turned out to be lying about WMDs. As we all know now, there weren't any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Amazingly enough, it was Saddam who was telling the truth from the very beginning. Bush was the one who lied to the whole world.

George Bush repeatedly told us that Saddam was lying, that Iraq had WMDs, and that Iraq under Saddam was a "threat to the whole world." So, here we are, years later. What have we learned to be the truth?

The search for WMDs turned up nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

Everything Hussein said about the weapons has turned out to be true. Everything Bush said about the weapons has turned out to be false.

The non-existent weapons of mass destruction weren't the only falsehood. There were the phony uranium purchases, lies about Al-Qaeda training camps in Iraq, mobile weapons labs, and drones that were going to attack the East Coast of the US.

So, when confronted with the charge that he lied about the reasons to go to war with Iraq, President Bush simply went into spin mode and said, "The defense of freedom is always worth it."

Was it worth it to the thousands of Americans who have been wounded or killed?

Was it worth it to the countless Iraqi men, women and children who have died?

Was it worth it to their families?

The reality of the situation is that the US Government - from Bush Sr., to Bill Clinton, to G.W - decided on its own that Saddam should no longer be the president of Iraq. This is the very thing that the Constitution and International Law were designed to prevent.

America was never threatened by Saddam Hussein. Iraq had absolutely no capability to attack the United States, and never was there indicated a desire to do so.

We're living in sad times, indeed, times when you can trust what Saddam Hussein says more than your own government.

George W. Bush has turned the executive branch into a two-way mirror. They get to see everything Americans do: our telephone calls, e-mail, and all manner of personal information. And we get to see nothing about what they do.

Everyone knows this administration has disdained openness and accountability since its first days. That is about the only thing it does not hide. But recent weeks have produced disturbing disclosures about just how far Bush's team is willing to go to keep lawmakers and the public in the dark.

That applies to big issues - like the CIA's secret prisons

it used the Patriot Act to snoop on domestic phone calls, e-mail and financial transactions of ordinary people

Gonzales was not protecting anybody's rights or America's reputation

refused to say whether the United States had ever sent a prisoner to another country knowing he would be tortured.

still stonewalling about the existence of CIA prisons.

The latest poll comes in the wake of the “surge” that has increased US forces in Iraq to about 160,000 troops, but which has not been accompanied by political breakthroughs or a dramatic reduction of violence.

Europeans consistently regard the US as the biggest threat to world stability, a new poll reveals on Monday

A survey carried out in June by Harris Research for the Financial Times shows that 32 per cent of respondents in five European countries regard the US as a bigger threat than any other state.

In the US itself, North Korea and Iran are seen as the biggest risks. However, the youngest US respondents share the Europeans’ view that theirs is the biggest threat, with 35 per cent of American 16- to 24-year-olds identifying it as the chief danger to stability.

Bush’s second term the administration has also embarked on a more consensual international approach to issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme and North Korea’s nuclear bomb.

But the poll shows that the European public still considers Mr Bush a risk.

Bush Wonders Why America Hates Him

President Bush is holding private meetings "over sodas and sparkling water" in which he asks trusted advisers -- "Why does the rest of the world seem to hate America? Or is it just me they hate?"

This according to the Washington Post.

"Not generally known for intellectual curiosity, Bush is seeking out those who are, engaging in a philosophical exploration of the currents of history that have swept up his administration," the Post's Peter Baker writes in the lead story for Monday's paper. "These sessions, usually held in the Oval Office or the elegant living areas of the executive mansion, are never listed on the president's public schedule and remain largely unknown even to many on his staff."

To some, "Bush seems alone, isolated by events beyond his control, with trusted advisers taking their leave and erstwhile friends turning on him."

"No modern president has experienced such a sustained rejection by the American public," Baker writes.

If he was such a bad man could no one be found to "judicially assassinate" this 'turbulent' ruler? Keeping the rules has NOT been the hallmark of this administration, so why not 'eliminate' Saddam?

The truth is that he was never the target. Assassination would not have produced occupation. It would have save 4,000+ US lives but we have learnt that these didn't matter either. The out of sight, out of mind, no presidential presence at funerals worked for AWOL Bush. However the broken in mind and body will not go away so easily. Until they are swamped by the next lot.

Study: Bush, others 'methodically propagated' false info before Iraq war

In a report that is sure to evoke passionate responses from supporters and opponents of the Iraq war, two nonprofit groups have concluded that President Bush and his top advisers made nearly a thousand false statements between 2001 and 2003.

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials

made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion

The Associated Press says a White House spokesman wouldn't comment on these conclusions. "The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world," spokesman Scott Stanzel tells the wire service.

Bush wrote Bremer back a short thank you letter. “Your leadership is apparent,” the president wrote. “You have quickly made a positive and significant impact. You have my full support and confidence".

Bush Lied And People Died - Again

Just when you thought all of Bush's contemptible lies on Iraq had been revealed, yet another one appears and this one is huge.

According to the New York Times and Bush's former top Iraqi envoy Paul Bremer, it turns out that the disbanding of the Iraqi army perhaps the biggest post-invasion mistake that was made, was done with the implicit knowledge and support of the White House despite their previous assertions to the contrary.

Looks like Bremer, who was indefensibly complicit in the early stages of the disaster that is Iraq, refuses to be thrown under the bus. He said he was unhappy about being portrayed as a renegade by former administration officials.

Bremer sent written corroboration of his perspective in a series of letters to The New York Times on Labor Day, after reading that Bush was quoted in a new book as saying that American policy had been “to keep the army intact".

The new opinion, the officials said, for the first time provided explicit authorization to barrage terror suspects with a combination of painful physical and psychological tactics, including head-slapping, simulated drowning and frigid temperatures.

"I don't think it, I know it," Carter told CNN's Wolf Blitzer when asked pointedly if he believed that the Bush administration used torture.

"Our country for the first time in my life has abandoned the basic principle of human rights... We've said that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to those people in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, and we've said we can torture prisoners and deprive them of an accusation of a crime to which they are accused," he said.

Carter however rebuked the administration's justification of its practices saying that President Bush's statement was not "accurate' when set against international norms of torture and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"But you can make your own definition of human rights and say we don't violate them, and you can make your own definition of torture and say we don't violate them," Carter said.

The Bush White House banned Dr Carmona from speaking or issuing reports on stem cells, emergency contraception, sex education, prisons, mental health and international health issues, he has revealed. For years, the White House also tried to "water down" a key report on the dangers of second-hand smoke, he said. When it was published last year , the report stated that even brief exposure to cigarette smoke can cause immediate harm.

Damning testimony of Dr Richard Carmona, the surgeon general from 2002 until last year, has revealed that the Bush administration frequently censored him and tried to mould his public statements to fit political goals. He was even ordered to mention President Bush three times on every page of his speeches.

For generations of Americans, the surgeon general has been the "nation's doctor", the person they turned to for unbiased advice on everything from smoking to obesity and HIV/Aids. But not under President George Bush, it now emerges.

US presidents have generally defended the surgeon general's right to address public health issues.
