I am now going to order this book. sounds exciting

Clip Source: www.amazon.co.uk

The Self Aware Universe. Parents don't want to talk about it...prosecute teachers who try to answer the students questions...and yet we ask "Oh my! What has happened to our youth? Where have we gone wrong?"

These parents need to be sued for utter stupidity. Don't attack a Sex-Ed teacher for trying to answer legitimate questions!

If they want to control the minds of their children...HOME SCHOOL them in a church basement somewhere and mind the shackles please, they tend to come loose with time and age.

Clip Source: www.sltrib.com

A group of Herriman parents who claim a middle school health teacher gave students information about sex that isn't allowed under state law are working with a lawmaker to seek criminal penalties for such behavior.

Wimmer said he decided to act after hearing this week from parents about an incident at Fort Herriman Middle School

investigating allegations that a seventh- and eighth-grade health teacher violated the sex education statute by responding to questions from students about topics beyond the core curriculum, including homosexual sex, oral sex and masturbation.

the teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave, probably through the end of the school year.

Three years ago today, I joined Clipmarks and my online experience has never been the same since the very first day I start clipping. No other web site, online service or community could give me so much valuable things that Clipmarks and the “clippiverse” generously offered. I enjoyed every single day very much and I learned so many things here, following your clips or reading your comments. More important than this, I have many good friends now all around the world - some of them have already become “old pals” for me.

So, thank you again EricG, Adam, EricSkiff, Derek and EricW: I owe all these to you. An Obama spokesperson says that this innovation is just the beginning of the digital, transparent presidency. In all honesty, we no longer feel that the processes of our site are producing a unique, high quality blend of content. Instead, the magical blending of diverse topics on the Clipmarks home page has seemed to dissolve into a battleground for extremely hostile politically oriented users who are overwhelming the rest of the site. Because of this we are working on making some fundamental changes to the way the Clipmarks site works. We will do our best to make changes that improve the site and will continue to iterate until we are comfortable that it is just right.

Tags: clipmarks

<clipSource>http://clipmarks.wordpress.com/2008/09/04/shaking-things-up-on-clipmarkscom/</clipSource>

Obama makes the Internet the king of political media

clipped by: egoldstein
clipper's remarks: Truly remarkable how ahead of everyone else Obama is when it comes to leveraging the Internet. Definitely need to consider how an Obama Clog could be effective.

Clip Source: www.informationweek.com

But perhaps a bigger change over the long term was the crowning of the Internet as the king of all political media. It was the end of the era of television presidency that started with JFK, and the beginning of the Internet presidency.

Trippi anticipates Obama will create a similar social networking for his legislative initiatives, and recruit supporters to lobby Congress to get his policies enacted into law.

"If the President says, 'Here are the members of Congress who stand in the way of us passing healthcare reform,' I would not want to be one of those people. You'll have 10 or 15 million networked Americans barging in on the members of Congress telling them to get in line with the program and pass the healthcare reform bill. That will be a power that no American president has had before. Congress's power will be taken over by the American people."

The problem, in brief, is that time may not exist at the most fundamental level of physical reality. If so, then what is time? And why is it so obviously and tyrannically omnipresent in our own experience? “The meaning of time has become terribly problematic in contemporary physics,” says Simon Saunders, a philosopher of physics at the University of Oxford. “The situation is so uncomfortable that by far the best thing to do is declare oneself an agnostic.”

Tags: time

<clipSource>http://discovermagazine.com/2007/jun/in-no-time</clipSource>

Christian Child Abuse caught on tape

clipped by: Oortcloud
clipper's remarks: Listen to this audio of a 9 year old girl being mentally abused. and memory of childhood. They have no mother, nor did they ever have one.
The idea of a mammal without a mother is, by definition, tragic. It's the
deepest kind of wound for our species; antithetical to our flourishing, to
	who we are.

 Indian Muslims condemn terrorism

A conference attended by thousands of Muslim clerics, scholars and community leaders in India has endorsed a religious ruling against terrorism.

The ruling or fatwa was issued earlier this year by an Islamic seminary.

It said that Islam rejected all kinds of bloodshed and the killing of innocents for selfish and politically motivated gains.

This is the first time the Islamic scholars have come together to give their backing to the measure.

The fatwa was issued in May this year by the religious school, Darul Uloom Deoband.

Coming from one of the most respected Islamic theological schools in the region, the fatwa is significant, correspondents say.

Abdul Hameed Nomani, one of the organisers of the conference, which was attended by more than 6,000 Islamic scholars, said: "Some people are involved in terrorist activities in the name of Islam and some are defaming Islam by involvement in terrorist activities.

"We condemn both.

Tags: india, muslims

<clipSource>http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7719059.stm</clipSource>

Empire State Building struck by lightning

clipped by: ericw
clipper's remarks: Seriously. It was a celebration of Palestinian culture -- a night of music, dancing and a dash of politics. Local Arab Americans were bidding farewell to Rashid Khalidi, an internationally known scholar, critic of Israel and advocate for Palestinian rights, who was leaving town for a job in New York.

A special tribute came from Khalidi's friend and frequent dinner companion, the young state Sen. Speaking to the crowd, Obama reminisced about meals prepared by Khalidi's wife, Mona, and conversations that had challenged his thinking.

And yet the warm embrace Obama gave to Khalidi, and words like those at the professor's going-away party, have left some Palestinian American leaders believing that Obama is more receptive to their viewpoint than he is willing to say.

some Palestinian leaders, including Ibish, took the original quotation as a sign of the candidate's empathy for their plight.

Tags: obama, palestine, associations

<clipSource>http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obamamideast10apr10,0,5826085.story</clipSource>

5 Signs President-Elect Obama Is a Geek

clipped by: gingembre
clipper's remarks: from GeekDad
<br/

Clip Source: blog.wired.com

5 Signs President-Elect Obama Is a Geek

evidence to demonstrate that he is a big geek

1. Obama has pledged to create a cabinet-level Chief Technology Officer for the country. The U.S. CTO would be responsible for making broadband technology readily available to every U.S. citizen, and for fighting the telcos for net neutrality. While this is admirable for many reasons, it seems to us that nobody would make this a central point of his presidential campaign unless he were, on some level, a geek.

2. He is a big fan of Star Trek.

3. He can talk techspeak when the occasion demands it. Almost a year ago, Obama visited Google and had a Q&A session with employees

4. Obama has repeatedly spoken about using the Internet to make the White House more open and accessible to the public once he's President.

5. The photograph you see to the right, which can even be found on Obama's official Senate website. I don't think any explanation is necessary as to why this qualifies as evidence.

Tags: technology humor, 2008 election

<clipSource>http://blog.wired.com/geekdad/2008/11/5-signs-preside.html</clipSource>
