by Russian media on Sunday for saving a television crew from an
attack by a Siberian tiger in the wilds of the Far East.

Putin, taking a break from lambasting the West over
Georgia, apparently saved the crew while on a trip to a
national park to see how researchers monitor the tigers in the
wild.

Just as Putin was arriving with a group of wildlife
specialists to see a trapped Amur tiger, it escaped and ran
towards a nearby camera crew, the country's main television
station said. Putin quickly shot the beast and sedated it with
a tranquilizer gun.

Putin thanked Western researchers for being involved in
programs to save the Amur tigers.

Sensitive to a growing environmental movement in Russia,
Putin as president redrew a planned oil pipeline route to avoid
Lake Baikal and scrapped plans for an Olympic village near

This (of course) got Obama to go to Iraq, thus setting up a dilemma. Either Obama would survey the "progress" in Iraq and change his position, thus making him a flip-flopper, or else he would refuse to change his position, thus making him obstinate and out of touch with reality.

But instead of either of those things happening, Obama went to Iraq and Iraqi leaders said he'd been right all along! That's about as close to "game, set, match" as you get in terms of real world events influencing your political campaign. What's more, given the domestic situation and John McCain's inability to talk about domestic issues persuasively, he can't afford to play for a draw on Iraq.

Tags: mccain, obama, elections, foreign policy

<clipSource>http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/205107.php</clipSource>

Bergman

clipped by: anatolant
clipper's remarks: bergman 2008 -- http://filmplus.org/mining

Clip Source: www.ingmarbergman.se

<LAYER name="" class="DIIGO-POWER" mode="" owner="" __old__title="" title="">"The individual has become the highest form and greatest bane of artistic creation." happiness today consists in 'having fun.' Having fun lies in the
satisfaction of consuming and 'taking in' commodities, sights, food,
drinks, cigarettes, people, lectures, books, movies -- all are consumed,
swallowed. The world is one great object for our appetite, a big apple,
a big bottle, a big breast; we are the sucklers, the eternally expectant
ones, the hopeful ones -- and the eternally disappointed ones.

whole culture is based on the appetite for buying, on the idea of a
mutually favorable exchange. Modern man's happiness consists in the
thrill of looking at the shop windows, and in buying all that he can
afford to buy, either for cash or on installments. He (or she) looks at
people in a similar way. For the man an attractive girl -- and for the
woman an attractive man -- are the prizes they are after. 'Attractive'
usually means a nice package of qualities which are popular and sought
        after on the personality market.

Tags: fromm, love, production-consumption ccycle, cultural values, self-other

<clipSource>http://www.philosophicalsociety.com/Archives/Love%20&%20Its%20Disintegration.htm</clipSource>
