If you need a button the web in a pinch, Da Button Factory has you covered. It's a quick and easy "shiny" button generator with lots of custom options that are easy to control. You can change colors, fonts, shadow effects and borders with a few clicks, and there's a gallery of decent-looking example buttons to get you started.

The main problem with Da Button Factory is the limited font selection. You can match every other element up with the design of your site reasonably well, but with only a handful of typefaces to choose from, it's hard to get the font you want. However, Da Button Factory scores points for ease of use and the ability to export as a CSS background.

We've been all about Google Translate ever since it introduced automatic language detection, but language detection isn't the default, and even then, it could be streamlined. Enter the To English bookmarklet.

Just install the bookmarklet by dragging and dropping the link below to your bookmarks toolbar.

To English works in two ways. Either select the specific text you want translated and click the bookmarklet or—if you'd prefer to translate a whole page—select nothing and click the bookmarklet. The text or page will automatically be entered into Google Translate's language detection, and you've got your translations in one simple click.

Last.FM Music Downloader

Last.FM is one of the most visited site for music and videos. Now you can download songs from Last.FM with the Music downloader. The Last.fm downloader is a freeware tool that will allow you to download music from Last.fm. All you need is to enter the URL of the song you want to download and press ‘Start’. You do not have to login or register to download the songs.

You can also download music from similar artists using the similar artists URL. All downloaded files are named “Artist - Title.mp3″ and saved in the “Downloaded Files” subfolder. ID3 tags are automatically generated and you can even download the cover images.

Hive Five Winner for Best Best Video Editing Software: Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro took home the title of Best Video Editor in last week's Hive Five, beating out Adobe Premiere by a small margin. Following in relatively distant third place was Sony Vegas Pro. It'd be tough to go wrong with any of the top vote grabbers however, all of them have strong and established pedigrees in the world of video editing and movie production. Your mother always told you you'd never sell enough gold records, or fall hard enough from a high enough office, to make the cover of a magazine. Prove her wrong with spoof site WriteOnIt.

WriteOnIt it is a web-based application that allows you to make spoof magazine covers, insert captions into photographs, and put your picture into other State-Fair-esque fake backgrounds, like billboards and in art galleries. There isn't any interface for tweaking font sizes or special effects, so you're stuck messing around with the length of sentences with trial and error. Still, for making some silly pictures without having to hone your Photoshop skills, it's a fun site. For more fun creating photo mashups, check out PhotoFunia to paste your picture into more scenes and situations, and MorphThing to blend your face with a celebrity's. Wobzip extracts archive files before you download

Upon first reading about Wobzip, I wasn't convinced about the usefulness of a web-based tool to decompress archive files. With my back-breakingly slow 30k/s upload cap, anything over a few megs would be brutal to even submit for processing. In that case, a desktop app like 7zip or Winrar makes infinitely more sense.

What I did find handy about the service is its ability to extract files from a URL. Anyone that has to download driver files from a hardware manufacturer can benefit from this: instead of needing to download a 200mb file just for one or two megs of files for your OS, fire the URL into Wobzip and download only what you need. As an added bonus, Wobzip also scans the extracted files for viruses.

Success with unzipping from a URL produced mixed results: http worked every time, but ftp was hit-or-miss. A number of sites that I'd like to be able to use Wobzip on only provide ftp downloads, so I'd like to see that addressed.

LiveDrive Offers Unlimited Online Storage

LiveDrive, not to be confused with Windows Live Skydrive, is a free and unlimited online storage service.

LiveDrive users can upload an unlimited number of files, and while the size limit per file isn't explicitly stated anywhere on the site I had no trouble uploading multi-GB files. The upload speed maxed out the available upload bandwidth I had, someone with a much faster pipe will have to weigh in on what the upload ceiling is. Users running Windows XP/Vista machines are able to download a stand alone client which adds a virtual drive to their computer assigned to the letter L. According to the site a client for Mac users is in the works. During the sign up process users are able to select a custom domain, http://someusername.livedrive.com, for accessing their files and sharing them. While the service is in beta, accounts are free. When Windows crashes it generates a fairly complex log file of what went wrong. WhoCrashed is a front end based on the Windows Debugging Package, designed to make reading those crash dumps a little easier. After loading a dump file, WhoCrashed gives you a break down of what happened and when, helping you isolate the crash in relation to variables like installing new video drivers, possible corruption of existing drivers and so forth.
