Based in Russia, AllofMP3.com is iTunes for the morally flexible. The site allows users to download copyrighted music from major labels at the rate of three cents a megabyte, about one dollar an album. A group of American record companies are suing AllofMP3 for damages of $150,000 for each of the millions of songs they say it sold between June and October 2006. That adds up to a total of $1.65 trillion, more than twice the GDP of Russia.

clipper's remarks: I absolutely LOVE the updated Gmail Super Clean Greasemonkey extension for Firefox. It's gorgeous and highly functional. Along with that Greasemonkey extension, I have included several others that integrate with Gmail (and other services) and Google Reader "like butta". These extensions only work with the Firefox browser (I assume you are using Firefox if you are reading this) with the Greasemonkey extension installed, except for Greased Lightbox which also works with Opera. If you don't have Greasemonkey yet, the link is included below.

StumbleUpon has been rumored to be on the market for the last half year or so, and now TechCrunch is reporting eBay may have agreed to purchase the social bookmark/website discovery startup for $40-45 million.

StumbleUpon is a rapidly growing service with more than 2 million users already.

According to TechCrunch, Google, eBay, and AOL had all expressed interest in buying StumbleUpon.

The company provides users with a browser toolbar that lets them rate web sites they visit with a thumbs up or a thumbs down. They can also write reviews of each site. Perhaps the most distinctive feature is the "Stumble!" button that takes viewers to a website rated highly by users with similar interests. It's sort of like channel flipping on a television and only finding programs that your friends have suggested you might like.

This is How We Catch You File Sharing...

The cleverly named “File Sharing Monitor” is the system being used by Logistep to gather evidence against file-sharers. It is actually just a modified version of the Shareaza P2P application that is configured to search for infringing files, and collect the information from the hosts that share these files.

1. The client connects to the P2P network, searches for sources of the infringing file, and collects the IP addresses that were gathered through the search.
2. The client requests to download (a piece of) the file from the host that was found through the search.
3. The filename, file size, IP-address, P2P protocol, P2P application, time, and the username are automatically inserted into a database, if the host permits the download.
4. This is the “best” part. The application does a WHOIS search for the ISP information and automatically sends an infringement letter to the ISP if needed.

* Save the image to your hard drive
* Navigate to a free image-hosting website
* Enter the path to the image on your hard drive
* Wait for it to upload
* Copy the new URL and paste it into your message-board or blog post

That's rather tedious. Well ImgRed.com lets you simply enter the original URL in your post as you normally would, but with http://imgred.com/ written before the URL. When this is viewed, the image will be copied once to imgred.com, and from then on the image will always be served from imgred.com instead of the host site. Additionally, a thumbnail is automatically generated, which can be accessed by adding http://imgred.com/tn/ before the original URL.
