It is not that we don't love each other: it is just that our life had started moving around our work schedule so much. While I was not traveling, he was and while I was at home at nights, he was working in the office: working in the software industry, his timings were erratic and sometimes, it took us weeks to just look at each other for more than a couple of hours!

My husband had poured his heart out on so many things that had happened to him during “the gap in our communication” period! He was talking about getting a promotion in his job and how much it means to him and how much it shall make our future secure for us and for our children too! I had started telling him all the happenings in my job, in our neighborhood, the broken gadgets in our home, the repair works I had undertaken for so many things he might not even have noticed till now, on the garden and on the million and odd things only a woman can do

We think a lot about getting new gadgets, but not so much about getting rid of old ones. The result: old cell phones, defunct laser printers and Pentium III computers gathering dust.

A couple companies want to help us clear out those old gadgets, while feeding our upgrade habit, helping the environment and making a buck for themselves

Instead of being hit up for an extended warranty next time you buy a gadget, you may find yourself hearing a pitch from TechForward Inc., a Los Angeles-based company selling a "guaranteed" buyback plan for electronics

For a fee paid when you buy a device

$9 for an iPod, for instance

you get the right to sell it to TechForward at a predetermined price that depends on how long you keep it. If you sell an iPod after a year, for example, you would get $40; after another year, $20.

Jade Van Doren, TechForward's chief executive, said his inspiration came from traveling in Asia, where

some consumers buy new cell phones every few months.

Local resources would be maximized and logistical systems for people, goods and services would be especially efficient," explains Erin Jeffries, spokesperson for the Arcosanti Project of the Cosanti Foundation.

For decades, sci-fi writers have painted a picture of utopia as a crystal-domed city appointed with shiny-steel accents, ultra-modern furniture and gadgets ranging from food replicators to floor-hugging maintenance drones. Tranquility and efficiency extend from work to sex, and the human aging process is "curable," as is every other form of disease.

The results to date have been pitted and pitched by the decidedly inefficient and totally anti-tranquil aspects of the messy side of human existence.

Nothing gets your morning going like a cup of joe and a piece of toast slathered in your favorite spread. Of course, it can also be the time of day when things are hectic to start. Kids running around, people in and out, everyone trying to remind everyone else about the super important soccer meet after school. Next time, put it on toast.

This toaster by Sasha Tseng incorporates a little message board where one can read quick notes. The message also gets “toasted” into the toast itself so it gives new meaning to “read while you eat”.

Of course if I had it my way, I’d use it as a scathing reminder to friends suffering from hangovers. Yes, this piece of toast will help settle your stomach buy not without first reading my warnings about binge drinking.

Leah lived for seven years with an abusive man. The bruises, the bleeding and the isolation were only part of his strategy to control her, she says. He turned technology on her, too. He installed spyware on her computer, read her e-mail, tracked her cell phone calls, spied on the Web sites she visited, even attached a GPS locator device to her car.

One day, after she visited her college Web site, he accused her of trying to contact a former boyfriend. The punishment was severe.

"He beat me all weekend after that," she said.

"Victims find us every week," she said. "We are constantly hearing stories now from local agencies we've trained on this. … Everybody is using technology now, so in every domestic violence case, the parties are using technology."

A tiny, lightweight battery made from paper could be used in the next generation of consumer electronic devices, US researchers say.

The battery works like a conventional lithium-ion battery, but all the components have been incorporated into a lightweight, flexible sheet of paper.

A prototype, just big enough to be held between thumb and forefinger, kicks out 2.5 volts, enough juice to power a small fan or illuminate a light.

Its inventors say the battery can be easily scaled up to provide enough power to run any number of electronic gadgets.

"You can stack one sheet on top of another to boost the power output," says Robert Linhardt, a biology and chemistry professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York state

The scientists substituted tiny carbon filaments or nanotubes for the electrodes used in a conventional battery and used an ionic liquid solution as an electrolyte.

They used the cellulose or paper as a separator, the third essential component of a battery.

This Gibson Explorer-modeled, fully functional LEGO Guitar Hero controller is definitely one of the better DIY video game peripherals we've seen—it's exponentially more attractive than the last homemade GH controller we saw, anyway. How does it work?

The maker loses a bit of DIY cred by dumping the guts from a real GH controller into the LEGO case, but we'll let it slide because it looks damn good. The beefier case should be a boon for axe-wielders with gorilla mitts, to boot. [TechEBlog]

Stiff muscles often require massaging to relieve tension and ease cramping caused by muscle fatigue. While tennis balls are frequently used as rudimentary tools they are ineffective to massage the rear neck, trapezium and shoulder muscles, which need downward pressure applied by a second person.

This self-massaging apparatus has a L-shaped extension piece that is fixed to a base plate, while the opposite end contains a threaded opening in which a metal ball is screwed fast. The distal end has a downward facing perpendicular arm with a threaded opening to which a second ball may be attached.

The apparatus is provided with a wall-mounting bracke

a person may lean backwards against the extension piece and use the attached ball to massage

upper back and neck muscles

For pressure point massaging of sore shoulders the downward facing ball of the perpendicular arm may be used. Different sized balls that are screwed fixed to storage holes on the extension piece may act as substitutes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Four percent of American youths online have been asked to send a sexually explicit photo of themselves over the Internet, researchers say in a study.

Of the 65 youths in the study who reported receiving a request, only one actually complied. But researchers say that's still a troubling number: With millions of youths online, that projects to potentially thousands across the country.

She said youths engaging in such behavior, not just the people making the requests, are potentially violating child-pornography laws.
