NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) -
Got a passion for buying
sneakers? It could be a good sign, with a poll finding that
people who buy three pairs of sneakers or more a year are far
more likely to be a leadership type that other people.

Mindset Media, a media company that examines personality
traits of different consumers, found that people who buy more
than three pairs of sneakers a year are 61 percent more likely
to have the qualities of a modern leader.

These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision,
and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive.

The survey of 7,500 people, using market research group
Nielsen's online panel, found multi-sneaker buyers were 50
percent more likely to be very assertive and 47 percent more
likely to be spontaneous.

"What is interesting is that these personality traits held

To make one, we just write the non-negative integers on a ribbon and roll it up with zero at the center.

The trick is to arrange the spiral so all the perfect squares (1, 4, 9, 16, etc.) line up in a row on the right side:

If we continue winding for a while and zoom out a bit, the result looks like this:

If we zoom out even further and remove everything except the dots that indicate the locations of integers, we get the next illustration. It shows 2026 dots:

Let's try making the primes darker than the non-primes:

The primes seem to cluster along certain curves. Let's zoom out even further to get a better look. The following number spiral shows all the primes that occur within the first 46,656 non-negative integers. (For clarity, non-primes have been left out.)

On the next few pages of this website, we'll investigate these patterns and try to make sense out of them

<clipSource>http://www.numberspiral.com/</clipSource>

Quantum theory in the retirement community.

clipped by: JohnWaterman

Clip Source: bethe.cornell.edu

Three Lectures by Hans Bethe

IN 1999, legendary theoretical physicist Hans Bethe

But it kills his joie de vivre, it saps his strength, it sucks the blood from his brain and from his heart like a vampire."

"At least if I died, I'd get some rest," one insomniac said.

We've been taught to see insomnia as secondary to, as resulting from, depression, neurosis or other sorts of psychopathology. But there is increasing evidence that it may work the other way around:

Insomnia may be the cause and not the consequence of a person's emotional instability. Insomnia is now known to be a risk factor for depression, alcoholism and suicide.

on a growing list of conditions, including ulcers and migraines, that were once attributed to neurosis but are now known to have neurobiological bases.

Tags: insomnia, neurobiolgy, mental health

<clipSource>http://www.edstrong.blog-city.com/can_chronic_insomnia_kill_heath_ledger_anna_nicole_smith.htm</clipSource>
