Missing Image is a piece of clothing that transfers a graphic error from the virtual
world of Second Life into the physical sphere in the form of a long-sleeve shirt. Second Life users can individualize their avatars any way they like with clothing that they buy or design themselves. To do this, several layers of textures are “wrapped” around the avatar’s body or 3D objects designed especially for this purpose are applied to it.

Baggs lives in a public housing project for the elderly and handicapped near downtown Burlington, Vermont. She has short black hair, a pointy nose, and round glasses. She usually wears a T-shirt and baggy pants, and she spends a scary amount of time — day and night — on the Internet: blogging, hanging out in Second Life, and corresponding with her autie and aspie friends. (For the uninitiated, that's autistic and Asperger's.)

clipper's remarks: I really, REALLY like this track. I'm not sure what to dub it stylistically, but it's very high-tempo, techy, melodic trance with great vox and bleepy SFX. Nothing too "out there", but a solid performer.

The music video has ULTRA visual accompaniment — the camera pans, angles, and how it's all put together work incredibly well.

One of the best parts is the clever editing of looped Second Life animations to give them a more dynamic, varied feel.

Bravo! One of my fave Second Life vids so far. ^_^

Jacek’s Guide to Aspect Ratios

This should help anyone who wants to make images to be displayed in the SL (classifieds, picks, etc.) and not have them be horribly stretched or squashed by Linden Lab’s inconsistent use of image aspect ratios. I don’t bother to cover aspect ratios for textures to be used on prims, as the proper aspect ratio in that case depends entirely on the prim’s dimensions.

Someday soon we may be able to morph our virtual selves to describe ideas so subtle they are literally beyond words.

This may sound wildly speculative, but yes, I really was serious. In fact, I believe we are seeing early signs of the cephalopodization of our species right now. One arena in which the transformation is beginning is in massive online virtual worlds. Second Life is probably the best example. I serve as a technical advisor to Linden Lab, the company that administers Second Life, but really, most of what I have done is watch in delight and amazement as thousands of creative individuals have signed up, logged in, and built an entire virtual planet.

mmmm people who have never met each other buying land and objects with real money that don't exist, for characters that don't exist, for sad people tapping away on a keyboard to look at.

What a scam. How long before players realize they have completely wasted their time and been ripped off?
