Before, I had all these bookmarks in a folder to track comments I'd left on sites. It got pretty gnarly (in a bad way). Now, for the most part, I can use coComment. While it doesn't do forums, doesn't recognize some sites like Lifehacker and doesn't seem to work with Clipmarks either (yet!), it *does* work with most blogs and keeps all comment threads tucked on a neat page for future reference.

coComment's saved me a lot of time thus far!

Clip Source: www.cocomment.com

Join the conversation

Track

coComment keeps track of all the online conversations you're following in one convenient place, and informs you whenever something is added to a conversation.

Share

Publish your conversations to your blog in a click, or send them to your friends via email.

Explore

Check out the top commenters, what articles and posts are generating the most comments, who's commenting on the same conversations as you.

Tags: cocomment, comment, conversation, track, share, explore, discussion

<clipSource>http://www.cocomment.com/</clipSource>

Fun with obscure/little-used Unicode characters

clipped by: Torley
clipper's remarks: Did you know there's a whole ALTERNATE, full-width Roman set of characters in the mix? The title is punchy and gets right to the point; I'm clipping this at the encouragement of my girlfriend, and also because it goes hand-in-hand with the positive "be a nicer person" clips I've been seeing around.

I haven't read this book, but Guy's blog entry about it sure is valuable. Read and laugh... at your own peril!

Clip Source: blog.guykawasaki.com

Book Review: The No Asshole Rule by Robert Sutton

You have to like an author who has the testicles (or ovaries) to walk away from Harvard Business School Press because it wouldn’t let him use the word “asshole” in his title. (HBS Press also turned me down once, but I digress...) Robert Sutton is the author who did this; he’s a professor at Stanford in the engineering school. While I am not a big fan of profanity, “asshole” is the only word that delivers the proper connotative meaning in some situations, so forgive me for using it in this posting.

I have an early copy of Sutton’s book, The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn’t, and it’s the definitive guide to understanding, counteracting, and not becoming an asshole. I am qualified to make this judgment because (a) I’ve been an asshole a few times and (b) been a victim of assholes more than a few times.

Tags: nice, human, book, review, interpersonal relations, starbucks test, kindness, workplace, courtesy

<clipSource>http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2006/10/you_have_to_lov.html</clipSource>

One Minute Tip - Podcasted Technology Tips for Busy People

clipped by: Torley

Clip Source: oneminutetip.com

Apparently, I found out the Richie Hawtin video for We(All)Search, which features telekinesis and an unsettling vibe, uses footage from Tarkovsky's Stalker. He's also known for the earlier cinematic adaptation of Solaris.

Clip Source: tarkovsky01a.webcindario.com

Tags: film, movie, andrei, tarkovsky, sci-fi, cinema, director

<clipSource>http://tarkovsky01a.webcindario.com/</clipSource>

All I really need to know I learned from Philip K. appearance, as if he had been drawn by a composite artist, based on
the memories of an unreliable witness. It is to do with the
smoothness of his skin being at odds with the silver hair that flows
down to his shoulders. The latter reflects his age, 61; the former
    suggests he is a teenager.

<img src="http://clipmarks.com/image_cache/Torley/512/750798AA-97C7-4613-A3F6-698FE23BEC39.jpg" alt="Michio Kaku. Prof Kaku has a gift for
communicating complex scientific ideas in a way that lay people can
understand. He argues, moreover, that good physics should be simple,
so simple that it can be understood as an image. I'll let him
explain. 'A good physicist is driven by a childlike fascination
and imagination. If we find ourselves getting jaded or bored we have
to try to recapture that childishness. Einstein used to do that. He
could be quite childish. He wanted to get access to that feeling of wonderment.

<clipSource>http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/03/23/sv_michiokaku.xml&page=1</clipSource>

Torley's awesome Clipmarks review

clipped by: invictus
clipper's remarks: Our new fellow clipper Torley wrote an excellent review of Clipmarks. Congrats Torley, and welcome to Clipmarks!

Clip Source: torley.com

It’s Saturday morning. Wee hours, past 2 AM PST. I’m feeling mellow and relaxed. I just started using my Clipmarks account actively. Just let me say, I’m amazed time-after-time with how easily I got into it: not only does it have rounded corners in all the right places (and certainly not gratuitously), it just about always works as I expect it to.

Me, I just feel great that it’s so social. Like I’ve said about Second Life, “I’m not alone.” Maybe I’m stretching it in 2006, but I believe Clipmarks can be a useful educational tool: when I was a kid, I grew up reading the bite-sized, punchy writing in The National Enquirer. Every now and then, they’d run an article detailing how Enquirer was useful to an ESL teacher, helping communicate English to students while informing them of topics of relevance. In a similar vein, Clipmarks, with its magnificent potpourri of “100% User Powered” content, could really get students going in classrooms, having them aware of what’s happening in a very wet and memorable way.

Even more than that, in today’s world, we need information management skills. There’s no shortage to dataglut! I haven’t stepped inside a school in years, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I get the impression these skills aren’t being taught enough. By far. It goes beyond basic computer usage and adding bookmarks, to being able to make sense and retrieve the info, and share it with your fellow human beings for extended discourse, learning, and fun — creating feedback loops and reactions, and increased knowledge for all involved. This is what I’m seeing in Clipmarks as a form of participatory media (hey, what would Howard Rheingold think?). And I’ve added it to my existing pantheon of how I manage daily info.

Tags: clipmarks, review, reviews, torley

<clipSource>http://torley.com/making-my-clipmarks-in-the-world/</clipSource>

Ultra-fun algorithmic games by Jeffrey Ventrella

clipped by: Torley
clipper's remarks: These Java applets are a lot of fun. The screengrab's a winking stewardess from the Sub Focus music video, "Airplane". The whole vid has a very rough, 70s film, and is shot in warm orangey hues, with a bit of computer-generated imagery (it's pretty obvious when).

Catchy tune with a brill melody and phat beats! After listening to it, you'll have the urge to repeat:

"The airplane flies across the sky
Where it goes is in your mind!"

Clip Source: youtube.com

Tags: drum 'n' bass, airplane, sub focus, travel, plane, journey, 70s, orange

<clipSource>http://youtube.com/results?search_query=sub+focus&search=Search</clipSource>

"Complete physical description" of a Salvador Dali painting

clipped by: Torley
clipper's remarks: Gosh, talk about a picture is a thousand words!

This totally cracked me up in a strange way, I can't believe someones went through the trouble to do this.

Clip Source: en.wikipedia.org

This piece has a flat plain that stretches into the horizon and runs along the bottom of the image. The background is a sky which fades from dark blue/purple at the top through light blues and yellow-greens, down to light yellow at the horizon. Small wisps of clouds are visible in the top left of the image. The light comes from the right, roughly at the level of a large face, a figure that takes most of the canvas and that is formed with an outlined scalp and nose. This face is of an orange skin tone color. The light causes thick black shadows towards the left and the horizon. The majority of the image is covered with a distorted man’s head in profile with its large nose resting on the ground. The face features a large closed eye with long eyelashes. There is also a large thin eyebrow to the left of the eye. There is a cheek shown to the right of the eye. Above the eye are colorful (pinkish red, light orange/yellow, and lime green), thin, leaf-like shapes in a semicircular formation facing out. To the left and under them are similar thin shapes in black facing left. To the left and top of these shapes is thin light colored hair that parts along a ridge to the left and right. There is a ridge of shadow extending from the tip of the nose along the left side of the eyebrow to the very top of the head-shape and goes through the left half of hair. Above this ridge, on top of the back of the head are stacked a large grey rock with a semicircular ridge, cork, a long conch shell standing on its tapered tip, a large horizontally oriented, smooth, dark grey rock, and a small, brownish, oval stone on top. To the right of the lowest rock of the column, on top of the head, is a smooth grey rock with some small round form and shell on top of it. There is a hook through the head at the left-most point. Attached to the other end of the hook is some sort of small thin shape attached by a knotted rope.

Tags: salvador, dali, art, painting, surrealism

<clipSource>http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Great_Masturbator&oldid=89571005</clipSource>

Alice in Wonderland syndrome?

clipped by: Torley
clipper's remarks: This might, in part, explain my distorted perception of time.

Clip Source: aiws.info
