Raiders Practice Cancelled after White Substance Found on Field

OAKLAND , (CA)--Oakland Raiders football practice was delayed nearly two
hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery
substance on the practice field. Head coach Art Shell immediately suspended
practice and called the police and federal investigators. After a complete
analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown
to Raider players was the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after special agents decided

the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Warren Buffet, The Second Richest Man In World

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:
He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!
He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.
He still lives in the same small 3 bedroom house in mid-town Omaha, that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.
He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.
He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.
His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis.
He has given his CEO's only two rules.

Rule number 1: do not lose any of your shareholder's money.
Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.

He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch television.
Bill Gates, the world's richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet.
Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.
His advice to young people: Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself.

Amazing individual indeed.

Users start by uploading a picture of themselves or their pet. Gizmoz turns the picture into a 3D model (see image to right), and the avatar can then be customized with a body, clothes, effects (scars, tattoos, etc.) and backgrounds. You then record a message and sound effects, and your avatar is created. The end result has a moving mouth and facial expressions while you talk, and the effect is quite stunning. Eyal calls it “bringing Pixar to the people.”

Ever wanted to make a DIY project using lasers? No time like the present! Here are a few projects that will get your feet wet.

Philippe Hurbain enjoys lego and building sensors. He has made a Laser Target Finder Sensor, his web site provides full schematics and detailed construction details. Here is what he says about his laser sensor:
“I originally built this sensor to be able to perform triangulation navigation. I needed a way to locate three targets from some distance, so a laser pointer seemed to be tailored for the job. To keep things simple, I wanted to have passive targets, and used catadioptric reflectors to send back laser beam to the sensor.”

W’s Laser-Projects page has some interesting projects that use lasers. He has done some holography by purchasing parts from Ebay. His laser workshop looks very mad scientist like.

Ever thought about transmitting data using a laser pointer. This project provides complete instructions on how to do just that. “The circuit allows any two computers with serial (RS-232) communication capability to communicate over 200 meters using a laser beam. “

The Soap mouse looks very interesting. I wonder how long before it is a commercial product?

“Soap is a pointing device based on hardware found in a mouse, yet works in mid-air. Soap consists of an optical sensor device moving freely inside a hull made of fabric. As the user applies pressure from the outside, the optical sensor moves independent from the hull. The optical sensor perceives this relative motion and reports it as position input. Soap offers many of the benefits of optical mice, such as high-accuracy sensing. We have tried soap for a variety of application scenarios, including wall display interaction, Windows Media Center, slide presentation, and interactive video games”
