Ex-McCain rival says Democrat has no executive experience — ‘nada’

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani castigated Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois as a flipflopping lightweight in his keynote address Wednesday night, launching the heaviest sustained attack so far on the Democratic ticket at the Republican National Convention.

Giuliani discarded that playbook, casting Obama as “a gifted man with an Ivy League education” who was “immersed ... in Chicago machine politics.” He described Obama as a no-show during his tenure in the Illinois state Senate and a man who, once he got to Washington, was a “celebrity senator [with] no leadership, no legislation to really speak of.”

“This is not a personal attack. It’s a statement of fact,” he said. “Barack Obama has never led anything. Nothing. Nada. Nada. Nothing.”

Every Alaskan gets $3200 from oil money - for nothing!

$22,400 for a family of 7, like Palin's. When oil companies pay taxes to Alaska, they deduct it from their federal taxes, and we of the other 49 make up the difference. 85% of budget from oil companies; residents pay no income or sales taxes, and state is rolling in dough, while most states are laying off teachers.
How ironic, when an Alaska Republican opposes a windfall profits tax, and favor reduced government services - when they live, in part, off of government handouts from revenue the oil industry pays them to get oil to us!

Why polls understate Obama's lead

Polls do not represent electoral votes. Electoral votes come from states, usually all-or-nothing. A 51%-49% win in most states means 100% of its electoral votes. Thus, the same election that appears close in polling, can be a landslide if the candidate focuses on winning the states he or she can actually win. I'm not saying that the American way of doing it is the best way. I'm simply saying that, at this point in history, the candidate who masters an electoral vote strategy wins. And it appears to be happening.

clipper's remarks: Firstly, the BLOCK feature didn't come from Clipmarks, it was suggested by one of the uysers here and I have already spoken with him about it. If I am not mistaken, he has regrets he ever mentioned it.

Secondly, and as I have pointed out before, the ONLY people using the BLOCK feature here are those who would abuse it's intended purpose. Because they are dumb enough to believe they can 'squash' opposing viewpoints is laughable at best. So here for your viewing displeasure is what just one of the recent clippers has accused me of- The user (debbyski) accuses me of being a LIAR outright (not too smart of you) and I present my clip and corresponding screenshots mentioned in the clip. If your going to be stupid enough to call someone a liar make sure you have your facts correct. Otherwise it makes you look pathetic. cptenaud your next.

No Debbyski-

I took no great pride in saving this clip to my 'collection' but did so for archival purposes. And I also checked the boxes on the 'email comments' on this clip. And took lots of screenshots.

I was actually quite ashamed of the clip in general and took quite a few screenshots for future reference (in case it vanished or was deleted). I did email the link to a U.S. Senator who was equally disgusted. And for the record, this clip appeared @ 7:28 am (with 135 views already) with a clip by Eric Goldstein@ 8:10am (with 64 views already). So nobody can say that it had not been seen by him.

The hypocritical part is leaving the clip up for so long before deciding that 'it was inappropriate'.

Don't pride yourself on this clip, it was nothing to write home to mother about, or let Eric Goldsteins children (or anyone elses)see.

And not only are you a hypocrite Nappy; you are a LIAR and a terrible one at that. For that, you are banned from commenting on any of my clips.

Good riddence.

CNet's Declan McCullagh wrote up an informative history of Joe Biden's tech-related voting record—if Biden's name rings a bell, it's because he's the guy Barack Obama picked to be his vice president last Friday night. Maybe you don't care about the doings in Washington, but you may want to know that Biden considers a lot of what you do care about criminal activity. Here's what I'm talking about:

• He asked Congress to spend $1 billion to monitor peer-to-peer activity. (In fairness, much of this is to prevent child pornography, but the tactic is apparently a little blunt.)

• He has expressed support for internet taxes and internet filtering in schools and libraries.

• Biden was one of just four senators invited to attend a celebration of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act hosted by the MPAA's Jack Valenti and the RIAA's Hillary Rosen, two of American file-sharer's most wanted.

We already know that the 'Speaker of the House' is a sad joke. And Congress actually has as low (if not lower) approval rating than the current president. So, I ask- democrats already have control, now what have you done with it? Nothing. Same as usual.

While it is almost certainly true that Moscow's action in the Ossetian and (for good measure) the Abkhazian enclave of Georgia has been, in a real sense, the revenge for the independence of Kosovo (on Feb. 14 Vladimir Putin said publicly that Western recognition of Kosovar independence would be met by intensified Russian support for irredentism in South Ossetia), it is extremely important to bear in mind that this observation does not permit us the moral sloth of allowing any equivalence between the two dramas.

The fans of moral equivalence may or may not have noticed this, but the obviously long-meditated and coordinated Russian military intervention in Georgia comes in the same month as explicit threats to the sovereignty of Poland and Ukraine, and hard on the heels of a Russian obstruction of any U.N. action in the case of Zimbabwe.

A defense official confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that the Iranian attempt was being viewed as a failure, and that Iran's claims about the missile test were seen as a cover story to conceal this.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the assessment, but his views echo other reports emerging from Western intelligence sources.

Soon after reaching an altitude above 500,000 feet, the missile failed and broke apart, the source said. The missile broke up when the second stage was firing, and the resulting debris was scattered across Iran and the Gulf of Oman, he said. The rocket was apparently aiming for an orbit about 400 miles (650 kilometers) high, inclined to the equator about 62 degrees.

Is he who he says he is?

Barack Hussein Obama is a Christian. We know this, he told us so. We've all seen the pesky emails stating that Obama is really a Muslim. His campaign came out and made a point of telling us that he is a Christian. He even sat down at a diner in Iowa to chat with some supporters and set the record straight about his background:

Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was born in Kenya to a Muslim family. When he died in 1982, he was buried as a Muslim. Under Islamic law, if your birth father is a Muslim, then so are you. Obama may not see himself that way, but the Muslim world does. Barack Obama's half brothers and sisters are also Muslim. His half-brother Roy (now named Abongo) is a Luo militant Muslim activist in Kenya.

Obama says his mother was a Christian, but an LA Times reporter looked into her background and found that she was, at best, agnostic and that Obama's grandparents were atheists.

clipper's remarks: I thought I might share some tidbits I have learned about censorship here on Clipmarks. Many of know (or maybe not) that you can 'block' comments by other clip users on your clipmarks. While this may be a tool, it appears it only supports those who would mis-use it. Anyone with an opposing opinion can be silenced if the clipper doesnt want others to see anyones comments but those they agree with. I'm ashamed of Clipmarks for allowing this 'tool' to be so easily misused, without any administrative or moderator based decision. So much for the open exchange of free thought and viewpoints.

Lawmakers also pass broad incentives for renewable energy, conservation

WASHINGTON - Declaring a new direction in energy policy, the House on Saturday approved $16 billion in taxes on oil companies, while providing billions of dollars in tax breaks and incentives for renewable energy and conservation efforts.

Republican opponents said the legislation ignored the need to produce more domestic oil, natural gas and coal. One GOP lawmaker bemoaned "the pure venom ... against the oil and gas industry."

The House passed the tax provisions by a vote of 221-189. Earlier it had approved, 241-172, a companion energy package aimed at boosting energy efficiency and expanding use of biofuels, wind power and other renewable energy sources.

The bill is aimed, among other things, at wind power, biofuels and other renewable energy sources.
