Where Has All the Good Fetish Gone?

It seems that all other big name fetish magazines don’t have an impressive web presence. In fact, they resurrect that 90’s internet porn feeling. The only exception being a few vintage images exhibited on the front page of the sites (like this one, from Whap! magazine). Which is too bad, because the four examples above really show you how fantastic porn can be, when done right.

Tamara de Lempicka

Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish Art Deco painter. Inspired by Picasso, de Lempica’s style would be referred to as “soft cubism”. Her images are mostly about desire and seduction and intend to effect the viewer in the same way. The subjects- refined and fashionable temptresses.

Post Modern Romanticism

Romanticism is a complex artistic, literary, and intellectual movement- a reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature, and was embodied most strongly in the visual arts, music, and literature. Most of the images of the movement evoke a sence of awe from nature. Funnily enough, pinup art has a distinct link to these aesthetics and emotions. Only instead of exhibiting an introspective awe, through the allegory of nature, they seem to elevate the woman, depicted in the painting, to the status of goddess, using awesome imagery of nature.

Olivia de Berardinis Vs. Hajime Sorayama

Olivia de Berardinis, as I mention above, was one of the Playboy magazine artists to changed the face of pinups, making them more realistic. But Olivia would also add the fetish and fantasy factor into the pinup painting, and change it’s direction forever.

While their work is very simmilar, Sorayama tends to take up a more mechanical, hard-edged, technological fantasy, while de Berardinis is more into fabric ruffles and hair flow. Sometimes the technology in Sorayama’s work takes over and leaves only female-like mechanical organs, while in Olivia’s work, there’s always a very human, feminine presence. It could be just me, but I feel Sorayama has more to say than just tits&ass (no disrespect to the rest of the pinup artists, who strictly create fantasy).

Bad Girls

The 40’s and 50’s were chock full of after-school-specials, deterring teenagers from sex drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll. (Little good that did’em come the 60’s, but that’s for the next sections.) Surprisingly enough, a realistic example of a girl that’s generally “good” didn’t come to these movie creator’s mind, but they had to create an angel that would fall from grace and turn into a complete slut. Allen Jones

Those Cool Cats

The 50’s, like any time in history, weren’t as carefree as you may imagine. Most people worked hard, African Americans were struggling and really, the only ones exuding that familiar Happy Days/Grease carefree glamor were the teenagers of white suburbia. They were fashionable and fun-loving and like many post-modern generations after them, they were to be icons who reflect their times (missing some historical facts in the process )

The most interesting aspect to infiltrate contemporary pinups is the fetish culture and the violence that comes along with it. From afar, this self-pleasing beauty seems raped and bleeding, but maybe that’s just me.

Many classic pinup lovers are turned off by the new BDSM culture. I can’t deny that many of these new images completely emulate contemporary pornography. Some images do seem misogynistic and unflattering to women as representation, but one must evolve with the times, and I do believe that some of the contemporary images are a deeper speak of sexuality, eroticism and fantasy.

Good question. Starak blogs for more than material gain. Sure, many of us begin in the pursuit of riches, but end up either continuing or quitting all together, because we are (or aren’t) getting some kind of psychological satisfaction, out of it.

In Starak’s last report, he emphasizes patience. He actually does this all through out Blog Mastermind, as well. And that was one of the most important lessons I’ve learned:
