Desculpem a demora.

Falo disso daqui a pouco.

New York based BlueTie released a very nice hosted Ajax email suite last week. This is a polished product - the company has been in business since 1999 and has hundreds of partners, like ISPs, that already distribute this software to their customers. The new product is a customer-facing email solution, with both a free and premium version.

This is a crowded space, with products from Zimbra, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Apple, Goowy, Foldera and others (although I am stretching the definition of competitor here to include simple Ajax webmail offerings, and Goowy is a Flash application). But getting control of people’s email account can be a profitable business - BlueTie says that people spend an average of 4.6 hours on email every day, and many people spend far more time than that. More than any other application, email is the center of the work flow in a business.

Tags: ajax, email, web app, free

<clipSource>http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/10/29/bluetie-launches-free-ajax-email-suite/</clipSource>

Firefox 2.0: 2 million in 24 hours

clipped by: StudioZ
clipper's remarks:  IE7: 3 million in 4 days
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/10/24/ie7-hits-the-street.aspx

Clip Source: weblogs.mozillazine.org

Apparently, people loves them some Firefox.

Redução do trafego;

Acesso rápido;

Redução de carga no servidor.

A versão atual do Squid possui as seguintes características:

Proxy e cache para HTTP, FTP e outros protocolos baseados em URL;

Proxy para SSL;

Cache hierárquico;

Suporte para proxy transparente;

Políticas de controle de acesso extremamente flexíveis;

SNMP;

Logs avançados;

DNS cache.

IE 7, released last week, allows a Web site to display a pop-up that can contain a spoofed Web address, security monitoring company Secunia said Wednesday. An attacker could exploit this weakness to trick people into believing they are on a trusted Web site when in fact they are viewing a malicious page, Secunia said in an alert.

Clicking on Secunia's the test link displays the Microsoft.com Web site in the main IE 7 browser windows as well as this pop-up that appears to be part of Microsoft's Web site, but is in fact under Secunia's control. Clicking in the pop-up window will reveal the true URL. Click here for a larger image.

"This makes it possible to only display a part of the address bar, which may trick users into performing certain unintended actions," Secunia said. The company has created a demonstration that shows a Microsoft Web address in the pop up window, but displays content from Secunia.

The problem lies in the way Web addresses are displayed in the IE 7 address bar, a Microsoft representative said in an e-mailed statement. An attacker could exploit the issue by tricking a user to click on a specially formatted link, the representative said.

The pop-up will block the left part of the Web address, Microsoft said. "Clicking in the browser window or in the address bar and scrolling within it will display the full URL, however," the company said. In case of the Secunia example, the true Secunia URL is revealed.

Tags: microsoft, ie7, spoof, crack, attack, secunia, security, bug

<clipSource>http://www.cnet.com.au/software/internet/0,239029524,339271889,00.htm</clipSource>

How To Make Firefox Faster

clipped by: AgonOruci

Clip Source: www.blazextreme.com

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Tags: firefox, mozilla, browser, tweaks

<clipSource>http://www.blazextreme.com/forum/showthread.php?t=680</clipSource>

The Best of Exxotica (free CD / CD grátis)

clipped by: StudioZ
clipper's remarks: This band rockz! Not only does the public believe in such topics, but the percentages are at dangerously high level, Efthimiou told LiveScience.

Legend has it that vampires feed on human blood and once bitten a person turns into a vampire and starts feasting on the blood of others.

Efthimiou's debunking logic: On Jan 1, 1600, the human population was 536,870,911. If the first vampire came into existence that day and bit one person a month, there would have been two vampires by Feb. 1, 1600. A month later there would have been four, and so on. In just two-and-a-half years the original human population would all have become vampires with nobody left to feed on.

If mortality rates were taken into consideration, the population would disappear much faster. Even an unrealistically high reproduction rate couldn't counteract this effect.

"In the long run, humans cannot survive under these conditions, even if our population were doubling each month," Efthimiou said. "And doubling is clearly way beyond the human capacity of reproduction."

So whatever you think you see prowling around on Oct. 31, it most certainly won't turn you into a vampire.

Tags: vampires, science, math, mathematics

<clipSource>http://www.livescience.com/othernews/061025_vampire_debunk.html</clipSource>

YouTube Party Over now that it is "GooTube"

clipped by: nhorn

Clip Source: www.msnbc.msn.com

The YouTube party might just be over.

For about a year we have enjoyed the weird and terribly fun video culture if offers. The ease with which people could post, watch, embed and link to videos created a phenomenon that certainly ranks among the top Internet experiences of all time

It never came close to fulfilling the heavy promises of the Web: universal knowledge and democratic culture. But it sure was a blast.

That does not mean that YouTube will change radically over night. Nor does it mean that YouTube will cease to be the major site of user-posted-and-created video clips. It just is unlikely to be quite as noisy and silly.

Already, YouTube aficionados are posting tributes to the cultish video clips that the service seems to be removing at a record pace. Some reports indicate that YouTube removed more than 30,000 clips at the request of a Japanese media group.

It’s not that YouTube now must behave like a grownup company. It’s more that YouTube is becoming the central battlefield in the next great struggle to define the terms and norms of digital communication. So it’s retrenching in preparation for that battle.

And every week that “GooTube” grows in cultural and political importance, the more stories we hear of important video clips coming down.

It’s understandable when YouTube removes a clip after a music or film company sends a “notice-and-takedown letter” to YouTube complaining that a user-posted video contains its copyrighted material and thus possibly infringes. But when the company zap clips simply because of their political content, that’s a different problem.

Here is an example in which copyright acts as an instrument of political censorship: U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson (R-New Mexico) is running for re-election in a close race this fall. Back in the mid-1990s she chaired the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

Tags: youtube, msnbc

<clipSource>http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15405170/</clipSource>

The Internet Black Hole That Is North Korea

clipped by: haraya
clipper's remarks: No clipmarks for them?

Clip Source: www.nytimes.com

the stark realities of life in North Korea were perhaps most evident in a simple satellite image over the shoulder of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld during an Oct. 11 briefing. The image showed the two Koreas — North and South — photographed at night.

The South was illuminated from coast to coast, suggesting that not just lights, but that other, arguably more bedrock utility of the modern age — information — was pulsating through the population.

The North was black.

This is an impoverished country where televisions and radios are hard-wired to receive only government-controlled frequencies. Cellphones were banned outright in 2004. In May, the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York ranked North Korea No. 1 — over also-rans like Burma, Syria and Uzbekistan — on its list of the “10 Most Censored Countries.”

That would seem to leave the question of Internet access in North Korea moot.

At a time when much of the world takes for granted a fat and growing network of digitized human knowledge, art, history, thought and debate, it is easy to forget just how much is being denied the people who live under the veil of darkness revealed in that satellite photograph.

While other restrictive regimes have sought to find ways to limit the Internet — through filters and blocks and threats — North Korea has chosen to stay wholly off the grid.

Julien Pain, head of the Internet desk at Reporters Without Borders, a Paris-based group which tracks censorship around the world, put it more bluntly. “It is by far the worst Internet black hole,” he said.

Tags: internet, technology, korea, censorship, information, web, politics, government, news, photographs, satellite, society, media, asia

<clipSource>http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/23/technology/23link.html?ex=1319256000&en=ddfb36d2f8248b7a&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss</clipSource>

The home of my System

clipped by: StudioZ
clipper's remarks:  1 year, 1 try, 1 love

Windows partition was excluded with 1 month, and don't leave nostalgia.

Give Linux a chance, you'll be surprised!

ps: I'm not an 'anti Microsoft' guy.

Here at openSUSE.org, you'll find a community of developers, end users, and other open source enthusiasts who all have the same goal in mind. We work together to create and distribute the world's most usable Linux. There are many ways you can participate in the openSUSE project. First you should get a copy of SUSE Linux and install it on your machine.
