Only one service makes a repeat appearance this year. It was a very big year for this class of technologies, after a long, sleepy period the Real-Time Web began to cause substantial disruptions over the last 12 months. Check out our list below and let us know if we've missed anything important or who your picks might be for next year.

Socratoad
clipper's remarks: Air conditioning in the summer consumes the lion’s share of a building’s energy cost. Calmac Booth is manufacturing a hybrid cooling system. This system exploits an ice bank thermal energy storage tank known as IceBank. IceBank makes and stores ice for use in air conditioning systems when the wind is blowing a bit faster or the sun isn’t shining, that is, at night.

Clip Source: www.alternative-energy-news.info

Of the total amount of electricity generated by all sources, about 75% is used by buildings, a major fraction of which is consumed by air conditioners. With the demand of renewable energy increasing with every passing day, inventors are trying to find the best possible means to store the generated energy during the best time, to provide power when the generators aren’t getting the resources they need. It is a natural phenomenon that the wind blows stronger at night than in the day. We don’t need that extra energy during nighttime. We can store this energy and use it during daytime when the load is too much on the grid.

When we utilize alternative sources of energy, how to store the energy poses a big problem. Scientists often create giant sized batteries or compressed air and hydroelectric storage. But now a company, Calmac Booth is thinking of storing extra power in ice!

<clipSource>http://www.alternative-energy-news.info/storing-wind-power-as-ice/</clipSource>

Hydrogen Fuel

clipped by: Socratoad
clipper's remarks: Extensive reference material on site

Clip Source: www.alternative-energy-news.info

Hydrogen is one of two natural elements that combine to make water.
Hydrogen is not an energy source, but an energy carrier because it takes a great deal of energy to extract it from water.
It is useful as a compact energy source in fuel cells and batteries.

To begin with, sweet potato vines are not grown from seed but rather
from cuttings or rooting up sections the tuber. So in order for you to
have your own - buy the varieties you like right now. Grow them on this
summer and plan on overwintering them.

Tip Cuttings Are Best

Home gardeners are going to have best luck with taking tip cuttings and
rooting these following the directions for tip cuttings on the
websites.

Or, some gardeners have success by taking an 8-12 inch long section of
a side-shoot (a growing vine off the main stem) and rooting this up in
a glass of water. This is going to be a variable success rate but hey,
it's really easy to try.

That said, Jonathan Safran Foer (Everything is Illuminated, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) is not out to make vegetarians of us all. It's not meat-eating he skewers within the pages of Eating Animals. It's factory farming.

Eating Animals is extremely compelling, incorporating as it does elements of personal memoir, history, science, and philosophy. Never once did I get the sense that the author was wagging his finger at the thoughtlessness of my eating habits, and throughout I was captivated by Foer's creative story-telling. A big part of the book's appeal is the inquisitiveness with which he engages his topic and the lengths to which he's willing to go in uncovering the nature of factory farming in America.

Tags: ethics, food-for-thought, sustainability

<clipSource>http://contemporarylit.about.com/od/memoir/fr/eating-animals.htm</clipSource>

Have you read my blog?

clipped by: Socratoad

Clip Source: www.bigmattress.com

ouch babe

Tags: babe, ouch, radio

<clipSource>http://www.bigmattress.com/mt-archives/2009/11/ouch_babe_2.html</clipSource>

DailyLit Announces Move to All Free

clipped by: Socratoad

Clip Source: blog.dailylit.com

DailyLit Announces Move to All Free

We are thrilled to announce that DailyLit is now 100% free.
