Richie Sexson tackles Kason Gabbard after the Rangers pitcher threw a pitch eye-high.

SEATTLE (AP) -- Kason Gabbard threw an eye-high pitch at Richie Sexson. That was it for the Mariners 6-foot-8 first baseman.

He charged the mound, sparking a fourth-inning brawl in Texas' 5-0 win over Seattle on Wednesday night.

"I'm 6-foot-8. He can hit corners at will," Sexson said. "6-8 and all of a sudden he's up that high? I'm a huge target. How hard is it to hit me? Hit me in the back or thigh. Up near my face is no good.

"I've been in the game a long time. I've been hit on purpose before. But it's been the right way. You go to first. It's part of the game. You know how it works."

Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer and then got hit by a pitch, setting up the fourth-inning scuffle.

When Sexson charged the mound, he flung his helmet at the 6-foot-3 Rangers starter. Both benches cleared, but no punches were thrown. Sexson was ejected.

Girl Sexually Assaulted On School Bus

Branden Allen, 18, was arrested on charges of sexual battery related to a school bus incident in Florida.

(CNN) -- Three Florida teens were arrested Thursday on charges they sexually assaulted a female classmate aboard a school bus parked at the high school they attend.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's office said Branden Allen, 18, of St. Petersburg, Florida, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were arrested late Thursday on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment.

Authorities say that on Tuesday at about 6:15 p.m., the three suspects and a female student at Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg were aboard a bus that leaves the school late each day to transport students who play sports and take part in other after-school activities.

Allen boarded the bus, followed by the victim, who was taking a seat for a ride home, according to the sheriff's office.

A city in the United Kingdom has started promoting "right-to-die" cards for its young, healthy residents, earning the condemnation of pro-life organizations who have called it a "move towards legal suicide."

The plan in Salford, near Swinton, has been outlined in a report in the Salford Advertiser, which described the program as "controversial."

The report said cards designating a person's "Advanced Decision to Refuse Treatment" already had been available for people suffering from terminal health problems.

But now, "in the first scheme of its kind in the UK," the cards are being made available to the young and the healthy, in fact, anyone.

"Cards can now be picked up from Swinton Library, instructing doctors not to treat a patient should they lose the capacity to make decisions, due to an accident or illness," the report said.

Woman Fired Over Giving Treat To Toddler (16 cents)

TORONTO (Reuters) - An attendant at a Canadian restaurant who was sacked for giving a bite-sized doughnut, worth 16 cents, to an agitated toddler was given her job back on Thursday after the case received wide media attention.

Nicole Lilliman, a single mother, said she was dismissed from a London, Ontario, outlet of the Tim Hortons coffee and doughnut chain after video cameras captured the 27-year-old giving a Timbit to a toddler.

"It was just out of my heart, she (the toddler) was pointing and going 'ah, ah...' I should have gone to my purse and got the change, but it was busy," Lilliman told the Toronto Star newspaper.

Tim Hortons said on Thursday that the firing was a mistake.

"It was the unfortunate action of one manager who unfortunately made an overzealous decision, and thankfully we were able to rectify the situation," said company spokeswoman Rachel Douglas.

May 7, 2008: A zigzagging hole believed to be as long as two football fields and up to 100 feet deep is developing in Daisetta, Texas.

DAISETTA, Texas — The massive sinkhole, with the crumbling dirt around its edges resembling sharp teeth, had managed to swallow up oil tanks and barrels, tires, telephone poles and several vehicles.

Daisetta residents feared the appetite of the sinkhole, which began as a 20-foot hole in the ground on Wednesday but had grown to 900 feet across and 260 feet deep, would continue unabated Thursday and threaten nearby homes.

But by Thursday afternoon officials and geologists were hopeful the monstrous sinkhole was no longer as hungry.

"We're not sure it has completely stopped. We're confident it has slowed down," said Tom Branch, coordinator of the Liberty County Office of Emergency Management. "We feel a whole lot better today."

The mixture of oil and mud at the bottom of the sinkhole made it look like a tar pit.

Manson Ranch To Close For Search Of Remains

The abandoned Barker Ranch house in the Panamint Mountains west of Death Valley National Park, Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO — National Park Service officials say the Death Valley ranch where Charles Manson was arrested will be closed for a second time this year to search for possible human remains.

A press release Thursday said that Barker Ranch will be closed for up to four days later this month.

A team of forensic researchers found possible unmarked graves at the site in February that they believe could be the bodies of additional Manson victims.

The park was briefly closed in April, but digging was put off because a piece of high-tech soil testing equipment was damaged en route to the site. Authorities said they wanted to conduct tests using lasers before disturbing the soil.

Manson and his followers hid out in the park after their 1969 killing spree.

CONCORD, N.H. — Since they first walked the planet, humans have either buried or burned their dead. Now a new option is generating interest — dissolving bodies in lye and flushing the brownish, syrupy residue down the drain.

The process is called alkaline hydrolysis and was developed in this country 16 years ago to get rid of animal carcasses. It uses lye, 300-degree heat and 60 pounds of pressure per square inch to destroy bodies in big stainless-steel cylinders that are similar to pressure cookers.

No funeral homes in the U.S. — or anywhere else in the world, as far as the equipment manufacturer knows — offer it. In fact, only two U.S. medical centers use it on human bodies, and only on cadavers donated for research.

But because of its environmental advantages, some in the funeral industry say it could someday rival burial and cremation.

CRANE COUNTY--Chasing storms is what Brian Barnes does for a living. And it was while he was doing just that, that he says he found himself in a difficult and strange situation involving a Crane County Sheriff's Deputy. Barnes was out on Tuesday in Crane County as severe weather moved across the region. Crane County was under a tornado warning for about an hour Tuesday night.

"I told him that I was helping out the National Weather Service in San Angelo, and they were relaying my reports to Midland. He told me he didn't care, and that I needed to go."

Barnes thought it was his obligation to stay put and follow the storms, a decision that landed him in jail.

"He jumped out and put me in handcuffs. I turned around and I remember him slamming me up against his vehicle, and then it all got kind of scary."

"His first words to me were, 'are you a blankety-blank idiot?' He told me if I didn't leave, I was going to jail, flat out," Greer said.

3 Accused of Using Corpse Head To Smoke Pot

The Kingwood teenager's story of decapitating a corpse and using the head to smoke marijuana was so outlandish that at first Houston Police Department senior police officer Jim Adkins did not believe it.

Yet, Kevin Wade Jones Jr., 17, appeared almost indifferent as he relayed the bizarre description of his and two friends' activities at an Humble area graveyard, Adkins said.

"I just doubted it because it's very morbid, and I couldn't see anybody doing something like this," Adkins said Thursday.

"He regurgitated in his plate of food when I asked him about it," Adkins said. "So I knew there was some truth to the story."

Now, Jones, Gonzalez and a juvenile whose name has not been released are each charged with abuse of a corpse, a misdemeanor. All three were arrested Wednesday night.

Houston police believe the teens disturbed the grave of an 11-year-old boy who died in 1921.
