PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Was it a case of good, old-fashioned police legwork, or were cops simply going out on a limb?

Authorities yesterday arrested a man said to be "possessed" as he allegedly tore off his wife's prosthetic leg and pants in this South Florida city.

Luis Ramirez, 35, is facing a battery charge after a Florida Highway Patrolman saw a disturbance near a BMW sport utility vehicle. The state trooper flagged down a local officer for assistance.

"He ripped my leg off," the 29-year-old wife told the officer, according to a police report cited in the Port St. Lucie News.

"At this point I noticed that she was not wearing any pants and that her right leg appeared to have been amputated above the knee," the officer said in his report.

"I asked Luis Ramirez why his wife would have taken her leg and pants off on the side of the road, he said he did not know," the report states.

Rush Limbaugh urged listeners in states with open primaries to cross party lines and support Hillary Clinton.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- He has publicly urged Republicans to vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton to keep the divisive Democratic nomination fight alive, but talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday he really wants Sen. Barack Obama to be the party's nominee.

"I now believe he would be the weakest of the Democrat nominees," Limbaugh, among the most powerful voices in conservative radio, said on his program. "I now urge the Democrat superdelegates to make your mind up and publicly go for Obama."

"Barack Obama has shown he cannot get the votes Democrats need to win -- blue-collar, working-class people," Limbaugh said. "He can get effete snobs, he can get wealthy academics, he can get the young, and he can get the black vote, but Democrats do not win with that."

Teen Sold 'Pot' Brownies At School

A 17-year-old Connally High School student has been accused of selling pot brownies at school.

One student became ill and had to be hospitalized after eating one. According to court documents, a 15-year-old student went to the nurse's office Monday complaining about a fast heart rate. Before she was taken to the hospital, she told the nurse that she ate a brownie she bought from Heather McCurry.

The nurse approached McCurry who pulled out a plastic bag with three individually packaged brownies. Investigators say McCurry admitted to putting marijuana in them.

They say she sold one to the student who went to the hospital for $4 and another to an unidentified student. According to the affidavit, McCurry told school officials she was trying to make money to buy a laptop.

School officials wouldn't comment on specifics of the case.

"We get that type of idea that maybe someone is under the influence we act immediately. We know that students do not learn well under the influence.

This building off Interstate 4 is under construction, but what the project will house when completed is not common knowledge.

PLANT CITY - The setting could hardly be more surreal.

On one side of Branch Forbes Road at Interstate 4 sits a full-size dinosaur replica advertising a theme park. On the other, there's a building that looks like Noah's ark - with a large deck attached.

The arklike building across from Dinosaur World has been attracting the attention of passing motorists since construction started last year. It's not clear what kind of a business the building will house once construction is done. For that matter, it's not clear when work will wrap up.

The owner, George Hansen of New York City, said in a brief interview that he originally planned it as a war memorial. "But there are a lot of unanswered questions and I'm just not ready to discuss the project at this time," he said.

The building wasn't modeled after the biblical ark, even though the resemblance is striking.

Man Shows Off New Gun, Shoots Himself

A man who ended up in the emergency room told authorities he was showing his friends how to shoot the new gun he’d purchased when he accidentally shot himself in the leg.

The 25-year-old Fort Walton Beach man told Okaloosa County deputies investigating the accidental shooting that he was “explaining to (his friends) how to shoot” the 357 revolver he’d bought.

“He said he pulled the hammer back on the pistol and, when he went to disarm the weapon, he accidentally discharged it,” a Sheriff’s Office report on the incident said.

The man and two of his friends were seated inside his truck during the incident. He took the gun from the glove compartment to show it to his friends, the report said. When the gun went off, the round entered his lower left leg, exited without striking the bone and lodged in the driver’s side door panel, the report said.

His friends rushed the “profusely” bleeding victim to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, the report said.

No charges will be filed

Britney Spears has given her pregnant teenage sister Jamie Lynn advice on motherhood. Spears - mom to Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one - gave her sister pregnancy tips during an intimate baby shower at her parents' home in Kentwood, Louisiana on Saturday.

Jamie Lynn tells OK! magazine, "To be able to be in the privacy of our own home and just be sisters again was wonderful. She told me, 'There are going to be some long nights, but it is completely worth it."

The 17-year-old actress is due in June.

Steve Winwood Turning 60

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Turning 60, Steve Winwood is starting to believe rock 'n' roll may be a younger man's game. Maybe.

"I think to be a musician (at 60) is fine, but to be a rock 'n' roller at a ripe old age is maybe slightly questionable," said the singer, guitarist and organist who played with 1960s rock legends the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith.

"If rock 'n' roll is, indeed, what I play, I'm not sure whether it is, as I try and combine bits of folk and jazz.

"The music I write, I feel, is not the kind of music for a 25-year-old," Winwood acknowledged in an interview.

Half a lifetime ago, Winwood was aware of the contradiction of an aging musician playing essentially youthful music. "'Cause my rock 'n' roll is putting on weight/ and the beat it goes on," he sang on his 1980 album, "Arc of a Diver."

Winwood has been performing for 45 years -- as long as the Rolling Stones, who are still playing well into their 60s.

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Forty-one years after he first appeared on the Billboard 200, Neil Diamond appears on course to earn his first No. 1 album ever on next week's chart. First-day sales of "Home Before Dark" lead the Nielsen SoundScan Building chart released May 7.

Unweighted sales for "Home" (Columbia) reported by the chart's panel of nine merchants through the close of business Tuesday, May 6, came in at 30,000. A source close to the album projects a first-week start in the neighborhood of 125,000. The current No. 1, Madonna's "Hard Candy" (Warner Bros.), may slide to No. 2 or No. 3 next week, while new entries from Gavin DeGraw, Clay Aiken, Toby Keith and Josh Groban look headed for top 10 bows.

Billboard estimates the merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target, Anderson Merchandisers and Handleman Co. -- account for about 80 percent of all U.S. album sales.

NEW YORK — The Rev. Al Sharpton and nearly 200 demonstrators were arrested Wednesday as they blocked traffic at the height of the evening rush hour to protest the acquittals of three detectives in the 50-bullet shooting of an unarmed black man.

Police estimated that about 190 people were arrested, including Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting and the slain man's fiancee. They lined up and peacefully put their hands behind their backs as police arrested them on disorderly conduct charges.

Sharpton, the two shooting survivors and Bell's fiancee were released from police custody about four hours later, said Sharpton's spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger.

The demonstrators prayed, sang and chanted such slogans as "no justice, no peace" as they converged on six heavily used bridges and tunnels.

Woman Fined $310 For Killing Police Officer

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — The Howard County State's Attorney's Office says a driver who struck and killed a county police officer last year has paid her traffic fines.

Prosecutors say Stephanie Grissom of Columbia paid $310 in fines for speeding and negligent driving. She also received three points on her driving record.

In March, a county grand jury declined to indict Grissom on automobile manslaughter charges.

Police say Grissom was driving 71 mph in a 55-mph zone on Route 32 when she struck Officer Scott Wheeler. The officer was working a speed enforcement detail and had stepped into the road to flag Grissom down when he was struck.

Man Dies While Shielding Daughter From Car

CHICAGO — Chicago police say a man died as he tried to shield his four-year-old daughter from an auto allegedly driven by a man under the influence of a controlled substance.

Joseph Richardson was walking his daughter Kaniyah to a McDonald's for burgers late Monday when a car jumped the curb. Police say the 39-year-old Richardson grabbed his daughter just before the car slammed the two into a fence.

Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaniyah was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious condition.

Police say the driver of the car, 32-year-old Angelo Thomas of Chicago, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated DUI. Witnesses say the man was driving erratically before the accident.

Richardson, a church musician, was the father of three, two girls and a boy, all under the age of 10.
