Using more than 8,500 Bicycle playing cards, he recently constructed a portrait of guitarist legend Jimi Hendrix.

While others have used Post-it Notes for mosaics like this, as far as Alvarez can tell from Internet searches, he is the first to experiment with playing cards as the medium for a portrait mosaic.

Alvarez, 20, will graduate in June with an associate of arts degree from Wenatchee Valley College, Washington. He planned this project in November as part of his schoolwork, but didn't construct it until March.

He hopes to go to Central Washington University and teach art.

"Any kid that tells me 'I can't draw,' I'm going to tell him, 'I did this whole project without lifting a pencil," he said.

<clipSource>http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/04/14/alvarez.cards.irpt/index.html</clipSource>

Dr. Phil Bailed Out Teen Ringleader

clipped by: Skipper61

Clip Source: 580wdbo.com

A bondsman says TV's Dr. Phil has posted $30 thousand bond for the ringleader of the eight Lakeland teens accused of kidnapping and beating a girl in front of a video camera.

It's believed Mercades Nichols will be talking about the case on his nationally syndicated show soon.

Some parents had complained earlier this week that they could not afford the high bond set by the judge.

However, six of the eight were out of jail Saturday.

All eight teens face kidnapping and battery charges. Kidnapping carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for Dr. Phil's show now admits that paying for Nichols bail was a mistake, stating that "certain staff members went beyond show guidelines." While it is not clear as to whether or not those staff members were disciplined, the statement says they've been spoken to.

<clipSource>http://580wdbo.com/includes/news/indepth/00369_UPDATE_-Dr_-Phil-Show-Won_t-Go-On_051455.html</clipSource>

"Clinton Can Still Win", McCain Says

clipped by: Skipper61

Clip Source: www.drudgereport.com

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has confided to his inner circle that Hillary Clinton may yet be the Democratic nominee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, a development the senator from Arizona would personally welcome!

"Look, I know something about long odds, they had me written off last summer," McCain explained over the weekend, according to a top source.

McCain would prefer to go up against Clinton in the general election, insiders reveal.

He has instructed his campaign staff to "chill out" on countering Hillary Clinton's torrent of claims and promises as primary voting comes to an end over the next 6 weeks.

McCain made the tactical decision to downplay Clinton's tale of Bosnia sniper fire, leaving some McCain staffers frustrated and perplexed.

Instead, the critical focus has been on Barack Obama. McCain's official website features 14 press releases taking on Obama since the first of the year, only 3 for the former first lady.
