Please note that this podcast is not a rehash of the Lost Lennon Tapes LPs (which excerpted the music only), but consists instead of the original shows (from vinyl and/or tape sources) in their entireties, with narration, interviews, sponsor spots, etc. The sound quality is good, not fantastic, but the content is still as interesting as when it originally aired in the late 80's.

Tags: music, john lennon, beatles, podcast, radio, entertainment, collection

<clipSource>http://littleabby.podomatic.com/entry/2007-03-29T04_24_12-07_00</clipSource>

YouTube Remixer

clipped by: juliapatriciaroy
clipper's remarks: Can't wait to try this out!

Clip Source: lifehacker.com

YouTube releases a video editing tool which remixes your 'tube clips using a Flash-based in-browser application.

Drag and drop your clips to a timeline (much like iMovie) and add music, effects, graphics, captions and borders. Well, we used the Alexa ranking as our criteria, all the sites in this list are not in the top 5000 (5000 most visited sites on the Internet). The order of the sites is random, and the list includes some meta search engines as well.

Without help the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel Faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. Head for the kitchen and enjoy one or two of these 10 foods. They relax tense muscles, quiet buzzing minds, and/or get calming, sleep-inducing hormones - serotonin and melatonin - flowing. Yawning yet?

Bananas. They're practically a sleeping pill in a peel. In addition to a bit of soothing melatonin and serotonin, bananas contain magnesium, a muscle relaxant.

Chamomile tea. The reason chamomile is such a staple of bedtime tea blends is its mild sedating effect - it's the perfect natural antidote for restless minds/bodies.

Warm milk. It's not a myth. Milk has some tryptophan - an amino acid that has a sedative - like effect - and calcium, which helps the brain use tryptophan. Plus there's the psychological throw-back to infancy, when a warm bottle meant "relax, everything's fine."

Honey. Drizzle a little in your warm milk or herb tea. Lots of sugar is stimulating, but a little glucose tells your brain to turn off orexin, a recently discovered neurotransmitter that's linked to alertness.

Potatoes. A small baked spud won't overwhelm your GI tract, and it clears away acids that can interfere with yawn-inducing tryptophan. To up the soothing effects, mash it with warm milk.

Oatmeal. Oats are a rich source of sleep - inviting melatonin, and a small bowl of warm cereal with a splash of maple syrup is cozy - plus if you've got the munchies, it's filling too.

Almonds. A handful of these heart-healthy nuts can be snooze-inducing, as they contain both tryptophan and a nice dose of muscle-relaxing magnesium.

Flaxseeds. When life goes awry and feeling down is keeping you up, try sprinkling 2 tablespoons of these healthy little seeds on your bedtime oatmeal. They're rich in omega-3 fatty acids, a natural mood lifter.

Whole-wheat bread. A slice of toast with your tea and honey will release insulin, which helps tryptophan get to your brain, where it's converted to serotonin and quietly murmurs "time to sleep."

Turkey.

Tags: bananas, chamomile tea, warm milk, honey, potatoes, oatmeal, almonds, flaxseeds, whole-wheat bread, turkey, sleep

<clipSource>http://food.yahoo.com/blog/beautyeats/746/top-10-foods-for-a-good-night-s-sleep</clipSource>

Goobuntu - Google develops its own distro of Linux

clipped by: ericw

Clip Source: www.theregister.co.uk

Google is preparing its own distribution of Linux for the desktop, in a
possible bid to take on Microsoft in its core business - desktop
software.

A version of the increasingly popular Ubuntu desktop Linux
distribution, based on Debian and the Gnome desktop, it is known
internally as 'Goobuntu'.

Google has confirmed it is working on a desktop linux project called
Goobuntu, but declined to supply further details, including what the
project is for.

It's possible that it's just one of the toys Googleplex engineers play
with on Fridays, when they get time off from buffing the search engine
code or filtering out entries about Tiananmen Square.

The pack includes many apps which compete directly with the Windows
bundle, such as Google Talk, Google Desktop, Mozilla Firefox, the
Trillian instant messenger client, RealPlayer, and Picasa photo
management.

However, entering the desktop software world would be a huge step.
Making Goobuntu as easy to use as XP will require a lot more
development. It's unlikely to be ready for showtime any time soon, and
it's possible Google itself hasn't finalised where the project should
go.

Tags: goobunto, linux, debian, redhat, ubuntu, os, microsoft, operating system, google

<clipSource>http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/31/google_goes_desktop_linux/</clipSource>

Free online photography lessons

clipped by: bigb0b

Clip Source: lifehacker.com

Freelance photographer Jodie Coston offers a free online course in photography, covering everything from aperture to zoom.

The course is divided into 10 lessons, each presented with loads of sample photos and assignments at the end. Coston employs a friendly, personal style and provides plain-English descriptions of complicated subjects. Even better, host site morgueFile maintains a separate discussion board for each of the lessons, so you can ask questions, share info with your "classmates," etc. This course is actually a couple years old, but it's still an excellent introduction to photography. It's too bad you can't download the lessons as PDFs--they're HTML only--but that's a minor gripe. You won't want to miss this one. — Rick Broida

          photos we've already seen.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Open

all overlook what we see every day. We take it for granted. These things
are dull to us, but often interesting to others. Photograph what's unique
about your area. If you live in the Arctic, try seeing patterns in ice
lit by moonlight or igloos lit from whale-blubber oil lamps within.
If everything's dark and crappy, don't complain: make photos exaggerating
          just how bad things are.

Look
          for color - anywhere

Even
the grayest of places has its color. Look for neon and other signs at
night. They're even better in the rain when you can catch the colors
          glinting off the streets.

Make
time exposures outdoors at night. Even though you may not see colors
with your eyes, cameras (digital and film) will pick up and highlight
colors in low light. The more varied the lighting, the better. Make
photos inside an area with varied lighting, for instance, a shopping
mall. The camera will accentuate these differences between tungsten,
fluorescent, sodium and metal halide light which are invisible to our
          eyes.

My
work is about color. I keep my eyes peeled and find it all over. Maybe
it's a fire extinguisher on the wall of an auto repair station. Maybe
it's one bright boxcar in the middle of a railroad yead. Maybe it's
little bit of red panty sneaking out from a girl's jeans. It's out there.
You just need to look for it.

What

for anything out of place. Look for what stands out and ask yourself
why it stands out. Make photos to highlight whatever it is that makes
          something catch your eye.

Tags: photography

<clipSource>http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/crappylocations.htm</clipSource>
