clipper's remarks: If you want to see/hear a Russian pop video - this is a good example. Except for the language you couldn't tell this wasn't a local pop tune (in fact this one's style seems like it was stolen, as most of their pop is, from the Annie Lennox/Al Green song). It's not a bad little tune though. If you speak Russian - you'd be also rewarded with pretty funny lyrics in the song... which is called "there was pork fat on the table", one of favorite ways to get protein in the old days.... I mean WW2 old.

clipper's remarks: I got this postcard today from the party of Lincoln promoting voting Democrat and based on the photo and the headline - wouldn't you? Both parties send some ridiculous and nasty flyers, but this was certainly the funniest, especially considering how they screwed up the intent (in the hands of someone who doesn't read fine print).

Dutch terror suspects go on trial

The six are charged with belonging to a terrorist organisation, planning to attack Dutch politicians and government buildings, and possessing weapons.

They included the man convicted of killing film-maker Theo Van Gogh.

Samir Azzouz has become well-known in the Netherlands after his previous trial and for being picked up regularly in security services sweeps.

Dutch television screened a video in which he urged jihad.

But he said it should not be taken seriously.

Neil Simon honored with humor award

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Playwright Neil Simon, who drew on his New York upbringing to create such Broadway hits as "The Odd Couple," "Barefoot in the Park" and "Brighton Beach Memoirs," was honored on Sunday night with the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize as a uniquely American humorist.

Simon, who has written more than 40 Broadway plays and dozens of film scripts, came to Washington for praise and needling from a slew of actors who read his lines over more than four decades, including Jason Alexander, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Kaczmarek, Paul Reiser and Christina Applegate.

Simon is the ninth recipient of the award given to those who create humor from uniquely American experiences. It is named for the 19th century novelist, essayist and humorist Mark Twain -- whose given name was Samuel Clemens -- author of the classic novels "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
