clipper's remarks: This article's a couple of years old, but I just came across it and, well, as someone who might perhaps fall into the definition of "Grup", I found it interesting. It made me feel "OK" about, at 39, still living a lifestyle reminiscent of my early 20's, while it simultaneously served as yet another reminder of "Gee... I'm almost 40. You mean I'm not supposed to be acting this way anymore?"

This is an obituary for the generation gap. It is a story about 40-year-old men and women who look, talk, act, and dress like people who are 22 years old. It’s not about a fad but about a phenomenon that looks to be permanent.

Ralph Nader on Meet the Press, February 24, 2008

People used to like Ralph Nader. Which is impressive since he is the progenitor of two of the world's most annoying types of people: local-TV consumer advocates and guys who enjoy reminding you to put your seat belt on.

I called Nader because I alone knew how to save his candidacy.

So I told Nader my outline for a campaign plan that would fix his image. My idea: apologize like crazy. I suggested that he adopt the slogan "My bad!" and produce campaign buttons with his head on Urkel's body, saying DID I DO THAT? Nader would come out onstage to Britney Spears' Oops! ... I Did It Again and maybe do one of those supershort apology trips to rehab, blaming his involvement in the 2000 election on Quaaludes or yerba mate or whatever drug someone like Ralph Nader might take. If the subtext of John McCain's and Hillary Clinton's campaigns is "I've gone through hell, so you owe me," then Nader needs to run on "You've gone through hell, so I owe you."

"Girl" at Japan school was 39-year-old man

TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese man was arrested for trespassing this week after turning up at a high school dressed in a girl's uniform and a long wig, local police said.

Thirty-nine-year-old Tetsunori Nanpei told police he had bought the uniform over the Internet and put it on to take a stroll near the school in Saitama, north of Tokyo, on Wednesday, the daily Asahi Shimbun said.

When students standing outside the gates started to scream at the sight of him, he dashed inside the school grounds, hoping to blend in with the crowds of teenagers, the paper said.

They also screamed, forcing the man to flee, losing his wig in the process. A school clerk pursued him and stopped him at a nearby riverbank, the paper said.

Police confirmed the arrest of the man in school uniform and wig but declined to give further details.

Jurors in the Hans Reiser murder trial here were bewildered as they watched an hourlong videotape of the wedding that was replete with a sexy belly dancer, a labyrinth, trance music and minotaur.

"That's Sean Sturgeon," Palmer pointed to a man wearing a dress, white gloves and woman's hat as the crossdresser passed by jurors on a large monitor. (Sturgeon later had an affair with Nina Reiser and was, at one time, Hans Reiser's best friend.)

"He was the best lady, yes," Palmer said of Sturgeon. The best man was Sturgeon's girlfriend, she added.

Dressed in kimonos, the marrying couple was seen dancing through a rock labyrinth, on their way to its center to where they would marry on a sunny, spring afternoon. During the ceremony, Hans and Nina hugged and kissed as the wind rustled their clothing. The minister was wearing a large African-styled shirt.

At the wedding ceremony, leading the couple through the circular, rock-drawn labyrinth was a "minotaur" beating a tambourine slowly.

They yearned to retrieve two stray dogs that he had taken in, and cared for. He was attached to them, and expressed in e-mails and phone calls how he wanted to bring them home to Michigan.

For weeks, the family has fought to have at least that part of Peter's life given back to them.

On Friday afternoon, their wish came true.

As Mama, a black Labrador mix, and Boris, her white-and-brown spotted puppy, hopped out of a minivan, the family ran and knelt in the wet streets to greet them.

Peter Neesley's sister, Carey, cried.

"It's been such a long, complicated struggle and to see them finally come home is just amazing," she said.

NEW YORK — The figure in the photograph is clad in Army fatigues, boots and helmet, lying on his back in peaceful repose, folded hands holding a military cap. Except for a thin trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth, he could be asleep.

But he is not asleep; he is dead. And this is not just another fallen GI; it is Ernie Pyle, the most celebrated war correspondent of World War II

Pyle and three officers came under fire from a hidden machine gun. All scrambled for cover in roadside ditches, but when Pyle raised his head, a .30 caliber bullet caught him in the left temple, killing him instantly.

Roberts went to the scene, and despite continuing enemy fire, crept forward — a "laborious, dirt-eating crawl," he later called it — to record the scene with his Speed Graphic camera.

Roberts' photograph, however, was never seen by the public.

Eight military museums and history centers queried by AP said the negative and photo were unknown to them.

Fitness Buffs Appear to Have `Younger' DNA

As if gray hair, brittle bones and wrinkles weren't bad enough, scientists say that as you age the very DNA in your trillions of cells starts to fray, unravel and disintegrate.

A study published Monday hints that fitness buffs appear to have "younger" DNA than the chronically sedentary.

the old chicken-and-egg question _ does exercise preserve healthier DNA, or does healthier DNA enable people to exercise more? _ has yet to be answered.

The study's authors examined just the ends of DNA strands. Called telomeres, these act something like the plastic caps on shoelaces, preventing the DNA in chromosomes from unraveling.

Previous research has shown that older people have shorter ends than younger folks. Indeed, biologists say they shrink every time a cell divides.

600-700 pound man rescued from house fire

GLADWIN, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a bedridden man who weighs between 600 and 700 pounds survived a house fire thanks to firefighters and an oxygen mask that allowed him to breathe amid the smoke.

Authorities say firefighters cut a hole in a wall to free Seager, and 10 firefighters carried him to safety.

Gladwin Fire Chief George Alward says: "We moved him, mattress and all." Seager was reported in good condition.
