Gmail has an interesting quirk where you can add a plus sign (+) after your Gmail address, and it'll still get to your inbox. It's called plus-addressing, and it essentially gives you an unlimited number of e-mail addresses to play with. Here's how it works: say your address is pinkyrocks@gmail.com, and you want to automatically label all work e-mails. Add a plus sign and a phrase to make it pinkyrocks+work@gmail.com and set up a filter to label it work (to access your filters go to Settings->Filters and create a filter for messages addressed to pinkyrocks+work@gmail.com. Then add the label work).

More real world examples:

Find out who is spamming you: Be sure to use plus-addressing for every form you fill out online and give each site a different plus address.

Example: You could use
pinkyrocks+nytimes@gmail.com for nytimes.com
pinkyrocks+freestuff@gmail.com for freestuff.com

Then you can tell which site has given your e-mail address to spammers, and automatically send them to the trash.

Automatically label your incoming mail: I've talked about that above.

Archive your mail: If you receive periodic updates about your bank account balance or are subscribed to a lot of mailing lists that you don't check often, then you can send that sort of mail to the archives and bypass your Inbox.

Example: For the mailing list, you could give pinkyrocks+mailinglist1@gmail.com as your address, and assign a filter that will archive mail to that address automatically. Then you can just check in once in a while on the archive if you want to catch up.

I can see your point, but I still think you’re full of shit.
2. I don’t know what your problem is, but I’ll bet it’s hard to pronounce.
3. How about never? Is never good for you?
4. I see you’ve set aside this special time to humiliate yourself in public.
5. I’m really easy to get along with once you people learn to see it my way.
6. I’ll try being nicer if you’ll try being smarter.
7. I’m out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.
8. I don’t work here. I’m a consultant.
9. It sounds like English, but I can’t understand a damn word you’re saying.
10. Ahhhh .. I see the screw-up fairy has visited us again.
11. I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid.
12. You are validating my inherent mistrust of strangers.
13. I have plenty of talent and vision; I just don’t give a damn.
14. I’m already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
15. I will always cherish the initial misconceptions I had about you.
16. Thank you. Classic things to say when stressed

"Okay, okay! I take it back. Unfuck you!!!"

"You say I'm a bitch like it's a bad thing?!"

"How many times do I have to flush before you go away?"

"Well this day was a total waste of make-up"

"Well aren't we a bloody ray of sunshine?"

"Don't bother me, I'm living happily ever after."

"Do I look like a fucking people person!"

"This isn't an office. It's HELL with fluorescent lighting"

"I started out with nothing still have most of it left"

"I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me"

"YOU!!... off my planet!!!"

"Therapy is expensive. Popping bubble plastic is cheap. You choose"

"Practice random acts of intelligence and senseless acts of self-control"

"Errors have been made. Others will be blamed"

"And your cry-baby, whiny-assed opinion would be.....?"

"I'm not crazy. I've been in a very bad mood for 30 years."

"Sarcasm is just one more service I offer."

"Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed"

"Do they ever shut up on your planet?"

"I'm not your type. I'm not inflatable"

"Stress is when you wake up screaming and you realize you haven't gone
    to sleep yet"

"Back off!! You're standing in my aura."

"Don't worry. I forgot your name too."

"I just want revenge. Is that so wrong?"

"I work 45 hours a week to be this poor."

"Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it."

"Not all men are annoying. Some are dead."

"Wait...I'm trying to imagine you with a personality"

"Chaos, panic and disorder . . . my work here is done."

"Ambivalent? Well yes and no."

"You look like shit. Is that the style now?"

"Earth is full. Go home."

"Aw, did I step on your poor little bitty ego?"

"I'm not tense, just terribly, terribly alert."

"A hard-on doesn't count as personal growth."

"You are depriving some village of an idiot."

"If as sholes could fly, this place would be an airport."

When that feature launched, Gmail became perfect.

Mail Fetcher allows users to access non-Gmail email accounts from within the Gmail interface. If you have a Yahoo email account, and a work email account, etc., you can simply access that email from within Gmail, using POP settings. Gmail will now work in a very similar way as Outlook does on the PC desktop.

Tags: technology, mail, internet, www, gmail, google, outlook

<clipSource>http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/12/09/uh-oh-gmail-just-got-perfect/</clipSource>

How To Not Procrastinate

clipped by: PurityAlighieri
clipper's remarks: I definitely should take this to heart...

Clip Source: wehow.ehow.com

How to Stop Procrastinating

									   STEP 1:
If you have 2 weeks to complete a project, start brainstorming the very 1st day.

									   STEP 2:
Write down your ideas and don’t look at them again for 2 days.

									   STEP 3:
Now it’s time to write a complete rough draft, set it aside for a day.

									   STEP 4:
Now write the final version. Don’t stop until it’s complete. The goal is to complete in it’s entirety to avoid having to work on this anymore!

									   STEP 5:
If the project is a presentation, rehearse in the mirror a minimum of 2 days prior to the presentation.

									   STEP 6:
If you work this plan you’ve completed the project a week before it’s due. Your extra time, PRICELESS!

In the past Désirée Palmen has showed great interest in biology and geology. In drawings she added her own interpretations to scientific facts. She exhibited in natural history surroundings, and in other museums more often than in the art museums. And then only in the surrounding countries such as Belgium and Germany, as if she, argued from the point of view of the Dutch art world, only puts her work under the care of a disguised context - even before the camouflage became her topic. Hence nobody was prepared, as her work popped up in Amsterdam in full maturity. Her exhibition at Reuten Gallery impressed immediately. Désirée Palmen, who was born in 1963, studied at the Academy of Arts and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, showed her obsession with the natural habitat now in staged photos.

Tags: bizarre, art, photos

<clipSource>http://stupid-ideas.blogspot.com/2000_09_01_archive.html</clipSource>

Swearing at Work Good for You

clipped by: abailart
clipper's remarks: Perhaps not earth shattering news, but a reminder that much of our talk is not to convey information but to maintain group solidarity, identity etc. and answer our most basic psychological needs.

Clip Source: news.bbc.co.uk

Swearing at work helps employees cope with stress, academics at a Norfolk university have said.

A study by Norwich's University of East Anglia (UEA) into leadership styles found the use of "taboo language" boosted team spirit.

Professor Yehuda Baruch, professor of management, warned that attempts to prevent workers from swearing could have a negative impact.

But Professor Baruch discouraged swearing in front of customers.

'Maintaining solidarity'

He said: "In most scenarios, in particular in the presence of customers or senior staff, profanity must be seriously discouraged or banned.

"However, our study suggested that, in many cases, taboo language serves the needs of people for developing and maintaining solidarity, and as a mechanism to cope with stress. Banning it could backfire.

Tags: swearing, stress

<clipSource>http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/7047536.stm</clipSource>

How to get 40% cleverer in 7 days

clipped by: ericskiff
clipper's remarks: I completely agree with Scoble on this one, although I can understand why people who make their living directly from their creations have a hard time letting go of the fear of giving away at least some of the rights to their content.

Cory Doctorow began releasing all of his literary work under creative commons licenses years ago, allowing people to freely download and distribute his work under some light provisos. I downloaded and read "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom" on my palm pilot, freely and legally, and was hooked.

Because of that, I've read a huge amount of his writing, become a mammoth fan, and will likely purchase every book he publishes. I've also published everything I've written, shot, and produced under a similar license.

While that certainly hasn't brought me traditional commercial success, it has definitely accelerated serendipity countless times for me, and if you trace out the effects of those 'lucky' events, it's helped shape both my career and life.

Clip Source: scobleizer.com

I was just reading feeds before heading to the second day’s events at LeWeb3 conference in Paris. Along comes Susan Mernit’s blog, who quotes Lane Hartwell, who is pissed that people steal her photographs. She’s decided to take all of her Flickr photos out of the public eye.

Me? I’m the opposite of Lane. I WANT YOU to steal my content. In fact, next year I’m going to do stuff to make all my content available via Creative Commons license so you can use it whereever and whenever, including my video shows. I’d like a credit, yes, but don’t demand it. I’d rather just add to the human experience and if that means that other people make money off of my work, so be it.

I’ve found that the more I give away my content, the more magical stuff happens to me anyway and if that means my photos or writings or videos get used in some way that I don’t really like, well, that’s a risk I’m willing to take. Lane obviously is not.

<clipSource>http://scobleizer.com/2007/12/11/steal-my-content-please/</clipSource>

Prison vs. Work: What's better?

clipped by: adamc
clipper's remarks: Maybe the real-life Shawshank Redemption guy and bank robber "hero" have been reading this.

Clip Source: pages.infinit.net

IN PRISON...

Since your stomach signals hunger and your brain signals 'cravings' ... this ancient Chinese acupressure point will help you pass on the doughnuts. In all of my years teaching fitness I've never heard such a thing, but you never know. Right? At least this strategy doesn't cost anything.

I personally imagine that the act of pinching, not picking, my nose for 10 seconds on purpose would simply distract me from anything else in the world I may have been focusing on, including food. So maybe the practice will work, because it seems so silly. My only non-Chinese or ancient advice is to do it with a tissue.

Tags: health, fitness, food

<clipSource>http://www.thatsfit.com/2007/07/11/daily-fit-tip-pinch-your-nose-and-lose-weight/</clipSource>

The Male Brain at Work

clipped by: bioplasmik
clipper's remarks: Whoa...

Clip Source: ebaumsworld.com

Tags: brain, sex, men

<clipSource>http://ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/malebrain.html</clipSource>

The largest freehand drawing on a dry lake - Amazing !

clipped by: einbar
clipper's remarks: "The drawing was transient, as all of Jim's work is: "It was completely erased in a rainstorm the next week."

Clip Source: www.jimdenevan.com

Clip Source: www.jimdenevan.com

Jim Denevan makes freehand drawings in sand.

Clip Source: www.jimdenevan.com

recently made the world's largest freehand drawing on a dry lake in Nevada. science talk for saying he hopes to find evidence of a photon going backward in time.

"It doesn't seem like it should work, but on the other hand, I can't see what would prevent it from working," Cramer said. "If it does work, you could receive the signal 50 microseconds before you send it."

Uh, huh ... what? Wait a minute. What is that supposed to mean?

Roughly put, Cramer is talking about the subatomic equivalent of arriving at the train station before you've left home, of winning the lottery before you've bought the ticket, of graduating from high school before you've been born -- or something like that.

"It probably won't work," he said again carefully, peering through his large glasses as if to determine his audience's mental capacity for digesting the information. Cramer, an accomplished experimental physicist who also writes science fiction, knows this sounds more like a made-for-TV script on the Sci Fi Channel than serious scientific research.

"But even if it doesn't work, we should be able to learn something new about quantum mechanics by trying it," he said. What he and UW colleague Warren Nagourney plan to try soon is an experiment aimed at resolving some niggling contradictions in one of the most fundamental branches of physics known as quantum mechanics, or quantum theory.

"To be honest, I only have a faint understanding of what John's talking about," Nagourney said, smiling. Though claiming to be "just a technician" on this project, Cramer's technician partner previously assisted with the research of Hans Dehmelt, the UW scientist who won the 1989 Nobel Prize in physics.

Tags: physics, time, science

<clipSource>http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/292378_timeguy15.html</clipSource>
