For many people, it would be self-improvement and knowledge. New knowledge is the backbone of society's progress. Great thinkers such as Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and others' quests for knowledge have led society to many of the marvels we enjoy today. Your quest for knowledge doesn't have to be as Earth-changing as Einstein's, but it can be an important part of your life, leading to a new job, better pay, a new hobby, or simply knowledge for knowledge's sake — whatever is important to you as an end goal.

Life-changing knowledge does typically require advanced learning techniques. In fact, it's been said that the average adult only uses 10% of his/her brain. Imagine what we may be capable of with more advanced learning techniques. Here are 77 tips related to knowledge and learning to help you on your quest. A few are specifically for students in traditional learning institutions; the rest for self-starters, or those learning on their own. Happy learning.

Tags: learning, knowledge

<clipSource>http://oedb.org/library/college-basics/hacking-knowledge</clipSource>

39 ways to live, and not merely exist

clipped by: morgainelefaye

Clip Source: www.dumblittleman.com

Too often we go through life on autopilot, going through the motions and having each day pass like the one before it.

That's fine, and comfortable, until you have gone through another year without having done anything, without having really lived life.

That's fine, until you have reached old age and look back on life with regrets.

That's fine, until you see your kids go off to college and realize that you missed their childhoods.

It's not fine. If you want to truly live life, to really experience it, to enjoy it to the fullest, instead of barely scraping by and only living a life of existence, then you need to find ways to break free from the mold and drink from life.

Love

Get outside

Savor food

Create a morning ritual

Take chances

Follow excitement

Find your passion

Get out of your cubicle

Turn off the TV

Pull away from Internet

Travel

Rediscover what's important

Eliminate everything else

Exercise

Be positive

Open your heart

Kiss in the rain

Face your fears

When you suffer, suffer

Slow down

Tags: personal development, self improvement, mlf

<clipSource>http://www.dumblittleman.com/2007/06/39-ways-to-live-and-not-merely-exist.html</clipSource>

9 Things I Hate About Everyone

clipped by:

1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2. People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.

3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it?

5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.

6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.

8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

Tags: humor, humour, joke, sarcasm

<clipSource>http://pepsea.stumbleupon.com/</clipSource>

Ten Habits of Highly Effective Brains

clipped by: Perkalicious11

Clip Source: www.sharpbrains.com

Clip Source: www.sharpbrains.com

let's review some good lifestyle options we can follow to maintain, and improve, our vibrant brains.

Learn what is the "It" in "Use It or Lose It"

Take care of your nutrition. Scientists believe it takes 21 days to form a new habit
and complaining is habitual for most of us. As Twain
said, we must coax our old behavior down the stairs. The
bracelet(s) you receive are a powerful tool(s) to remind
you of how well you are creating your life with positive
intention. Here are the suggested rules:

						1. Begin to wear the bracelet, on either wrist

						2. When you catch yourself complaining, gossiping or
criticizing (it’s ok, everyone does) move the bracelet
to the other arm and begin again.

						3. If you hear someone else who is wearing a bracelet
complain, you may point out their need to switch the
bracelet to the other arm; BUT if you’re going to do
this, you must move your bracelet first!

4. Stay with it. It may take many months but when you
reach 21 days you will find that your entire life is
happier, more loving, more positive and more abundant.

Tags: improvement, self-improvement, positive, happiness

<clipSource>http://ccunitykc.org/Complaint_Free_Instructions.htm</clipSource>

15 Quotes by Famous Atheists

clipped by: AcesLucky
clipper's remarks: Bertrand Russell:

“You find as you look around the world that every single bit of progress in humane feeling, every improvement in the criminal law, every step toward the diminution of war, every step toward better treatment of the colored races, or every mitigation of slavery, every moral progress that there has been in the world, has been consistently opposed by the organized churches of the world. I say quite deliberately that the Christian religion, as organized in its churches, has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world.”

Clip Source: www.dvorak.org

15 Quotes By Famous Atheists

9. The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. — Sigmund Freud

2. We talked about how wrong that is, and how if the glib always win, we all lose. But the more important battle is not between articulate vs. less-articulate people... it's between the articulate vs. non-articulate parts of your own head. Your brain has both a quick-talker and a quick-thinker, but the good-talker "know-it-all" gets the glory. In other words, there's a smart part and a dumb part of your brain, and the problem is...the dumb part talks.

While your brain is chatting away evaluating, judging, instructing, criticizing, directing, etc... the smarter parts sit in the corner, ignored. Alan Kay--often called the father of object-oriented programming and one of the greatest thinkers/researchers/designers/teachers/engineers of our time-- talks about the implications of this for education... something we talked about earlier.

But Alan Kay was inspired by the work of Tim Gallwey, whose work arose from one simple question, "... is all this inner dialogue really necessary? Is it helping...or is it getting in the way?" Until I heard Alan Kay talk about it (and explain some of the cognitive science behind it), I had always thought Gallwey's "inner game" thing was just one more bit of 60's self-help new-age nonsense. I was dead wrong.

Gallwey showed that the parts of our brain that learn from experience are far more capable than the parts that learn from talking through it. We think we need to tell ourselves things like, "keep your weight over your front don't press so hard on the violin bow..." when we're trying to learn something new or improve our performance, when that's exactly the thing that inhibits learning and improvement.

Tags: analysis, analytical, experience, brain, mind, thinking, doing, talking

<clipSource>http://headrush.typepad.com/creating_passionate_users/2006/12/how_to_be_bette.html</clipSource>

10 Benefits of Rising Early, and How to Do it

clipped by: sohil

Clip Source: zenhabits.net

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” - Ben Franklin, famously

“Put no trust in the benefits to accrue from early rising, as set forth by the infatuated Franklin …” - Mark Twain

Now, let me first say that if you are a night owl, and that works for you, I think that’s great. There’s no reason to change, especially if you’re happy with it. But for me, switching from being a night owl to an early riser (and yes, it is possible) has been a godsend. It has helped me in so many ways that I’d never go back. Here are just a few:

Greet the day

Amazing start

Quietude

Sunrise

Breakfast

Exercise

Productivity

Goal time

Commute

Appointments

How to Become an Early Riser

Don’t make drastic changes

Allow yourself to sleep earlier

I suggest going to bed earlier, even if you don’t think you’ll sleep, and read while in bed

Put your alarm clock far from you bed

Go out of the bedroom as soon as you shut off the alarm.

Do not rationalize

Have a good reason

Make waking up early a reward

Tags: early, sleep, habit, good, productivity, self improvement, howto, work, exercise, amazing

<clipSource>http://zenhabits.net/2007/05/10-benefits-of-rising-early-and-how-to-do-it/</clipSource>

Your life is Perfect.

clipped by: pokkets
clipper's remarks: We often don't know if we want something until we get it, and then find it wasn't what we wanted. Through that discovery, we can start to believe we really wanted something else, and the chase continues, turning goals into hurdles. Often confusing improvement with change. Perhaps another angle could be learning what we need to, but also trying to improve what we can already do well, without neglecting the opportunities to learn from what we can consider to be failures. We can change situations, but changing who we are may not be possible, and if it is we don't have the foresight to make it a likely improvement.

Clip Source: www.mindpowernews.com

By

blindness in millions of people around the world.

The first 45-minute operations could take place within five years and could
be as commonplace as cataract surgery in a decade.

The improvement is likely to be great enough to transform lives, allowing the
blind to regain the ability to carry out everyday tasks such as reading or
driving.

The pioneering stem cell surgery tackles age-related macular degeneration
(AMD), the most common cause of blindness in the elderly. There are about
300,000 sufferers in this country and the number is expected to treble in the
next 25 years to around one million as the population ages.

Tags: stem cells, science, biology, blind, eyes, medical, health, technology

<clipSource>http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/technology/technology.html?in_article_id=460052&in_page_id=1965</clipSource>

11 ways to become Charming

clipped by: Brimstone
clipper's remarks: practicing rule 6: all of you are so great....i really mean it.

Clip Source: www.wikihow.com

Relax the muscles in your

Second, there's a good chance the decision you make will be wrong.

Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert summed up our failings this way: "People have a lot of bad theories about happiness."

Our culture implores us to buy bigger, newer, better things, but research shows "stuff" does not buy happiness. By and large, money buys happiness only for those who lack the basic needs. Once you pass an income of $50,000, more money doesn't buy much more happiness, Gilbert said.

So what makes us happy? In general, the older you get the happier you get -- until you reach very old age.

According to a Pew Research Center survey, the happiest age group is men 65 and older; the least happy: men 18 to 29.

The survey also found:

Married people are happier than singles.

College grads are happier than those without a college degree.

People who were religious are happier than those who aren't.

Sunbelt residents are happier than other U.S. residents.

Republicans are happier than Democrats -- but both are happier than independents.

Tags: happiness, self-improvement, philosophy, ideology, psychology, lifestyle

<clipSource>http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/conditions/11/10/happiness.overview/index.html</clipSource>

Watermelon May Have Viagra-effect

clipped by: Mohir
clipper's remarks: In watermelons, these include lycopene, beta carotene and the rising star among its phyto-nutrients – citrulline – whose beneficial functions are now being unraveled. Among them is the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does.
Scientists know that when watermelon is consumed, citrulline is converted to arginine through certain enzymes. Arginine is an amino acid that works wonders on the heart and circulation system and maintains a good immune system, Patil said.

Clip Source: www.sciencedaily.com

A cold slice of watermelon has long been a Fourth of July holiday staple. But according to recent studies, the juicy fruit may be better suited for Valentine’s Day. That’s because scientists say watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido.

“The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,” said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station.

“We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.”

Beneficial ingredients in watermelon and other fruits and vegetables are known as phyto-nutrients, naturally occurring compounds that are bioactive, or able to react with the human body to trigger healthy reactions, Patil said.

Tags: watermelon, fruit, health, viagra

<clipSource>http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/06/080630165707.htm</clipSource>
