The term redneck indicates a lifestyle and culture that can be found in every state in our union. The essentials of redneck culture were brought to America by what we call the Scots Irish, after first being shipped to the Ulster Plantation, where our, uh, remarkable cultural legacy can still be seen every 12 July in Ireland.

Belief that no law is above God's law, not even the US Constitution.

Hyper patriotism. A fighting defence of native land, home and heart, even when it is not actually threatened: ie, Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Somalia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Haiti and dozens more with righteous operations titles such as Enduring Freedom, Restore Hope, and Just Cause.

A love of guns and tremendous respect for the warrior ideal. Along with this comes a strong sense of fealty and loyalty. Fealty to wartime leaders, whether it be FDR or George Bush.

When is a T-shirt a security threat?

When the security staff has poo for brains, that's when.

And why should you care? Well, while they are busy chasing the guy wearing a CARTOON Transformers T-shirt, the real villains are cruising by snickering to themselves. OMG!

A man wearing a T-shirt depicting a cartoon character holding a gun was stopped from boarding a flight by the security at Heathrow's Terminal 5.

Brad Jayakody, from Bayswater, central London, said he was "stumped" at the objection to his Transformers T-shirt.

Mr Jayakody said he had to change before boarding as security officers objected to the gun, held by the cartoon character.

"He says, 'we won't be able to let you through because your T-shirt has got a gun on it'," Mr Jayakody said.

"[The official's] supervisor comes over and goes 'sorry we can't let you through and you've a gun on your T-shirt'," he said.

"It's a cartoon robot - what threat is it to security or offensive to anyone at all?"

clipper's remarks: I have lived abroad for a very long time, and consider myself a global citizen, not just tied to one country. And having been born in the U.S.A. it makes me sad to see that people, my friends in other countries think that Americans are a violent lot. Can Americans not see why? Gun crime has spiraled out of control and it only takes living outside of the country to gain perspective. We should not be living in fear of each other. We should not have to have metal detectors in our schools. We should not have to accept that our society has changed this way. This boy should have been helped as all of them should have been helped BEFORE we get to this point. We need to look out for each other each day of our lives.

clipper's remarks: I have to say that I was very very angry and livid while watching this video. How could you make a pregnant woman five months pregnant lie down on the ground during the trafic. Listen to the whole thing and it is really unfathomable.

It was discovered later, that she was a very innocent woman a school principal, with two children who had been shopping at JC Penny. JCPenny decided she was a black man who had been stealing cars in the area and called the police. JCPenny has never seen fit to apologize to this woman or her two young children who witnessed what was being done to mommy... policemen with guns drawn ordering their mother to lay down on the ground. You can hear her sobs. I will never, ever shop at JCPenney again.

Don't we care tht innocent Americans are being killed every day thanks to lax gun regulations endorsed by lobbyists who hold on to antiquated laws without considering the greater need to encouraging the development of a civilized society where guns are not necessary?

Why can't America see that this problem, starting with Columbine (as a milestone in our consicousness of this issue, it started much further)is not getting better. It is getting worse.

WASHINGTON, April 20 — Under federal law, the Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho should have been prohibited from buying a gun after a Virginia court declared him to be a danger to himself in late 2005 and sent him for psychiatric treatment, a state official and several legal experts said Friday.

Mr. Cho’s ability to buy two guns despite his history has brought new attention to the adequacy of background checks that scrutinize potential gun buyers. And since federal gun laws depend on states for enforcement, the failure of Virginia to flag Mr. Cho highlights the often incomplete information provided by states to federal authorities.

After two female Virginia Tech students complained about Mr. Cho’s behavior in 2005, he was sent to a psychiatric unit for evaluation and then ordered to undergo outpatient treatment, which would not qualify as an involuntary commitment under Virginia law, Mr. Bonnie said.

This is what happens to people when we become lax in our duties to protect one another in ways other than arming ourselves.

We can best protect ourselves and our future leaders by listening to each other, taking action when we see some one is troubled (cho was a troubled dude that everybody IGNORED from his fellow students to his supervisors, teachers and establishment.

When people don't enforce flimsy gun laws we get this....
When we care MORE about owning an item of metal designed to send bullets into another's body with such force as to DESTROY them, we get this....

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (CNN) -- The family of Virginia Tech killer Seung-Hui Cho feels "hopeless, helpless and lost" and is "deeply sorry" for his "unspeakable actions," according to a written statement released Friday by his sister.

"We are humbled by this darkness," Sun-Kyung Cho said in the family's first comments since her brother shot and killed 32 people and then killed himself. "He has made the world weep. We are living a nightmare."

"Guns don't kill people," goes the gun lobby's absurd mantra. Far fewer guns in America would logically result in far fewer deaths from people pulling the trigger. The probability of the Virginia Tech gun massacre happening would have been greatly reduced if guns weren't so easily available to ordinary citizens.

So let's just disregard all the hoopla about the race of the student responsible for the slayings. These students were not killed by a Korean, they were killed by a 9 mm handgun and a .22-caliber handgun.

The correct target of our concern needs to be guns. America has more than it can possibly handle. How many can our society handle? My opinion is: as close to zero as possible.

This occurred in Beverly Hills, a low-crime area dotted with upscale boutiques, restaurants and businesses -- a city best known perhaps for its glamour and celebrity sightings.

A near-death experience does focus the mind. We need to get rid of our guns.

Cho paid $571 for a 9 mm Glock 19 pistol just over a month ago, the owner of Roanoke Firearms told CNN Tuesday. He also used a .22-caliber Walther pistol in the attack, police said. (Interactive: The weapons used in the shootings)

John Markell said Cho was very low-key when he purchased the Glock and 50 rounds of ammunition with a credit card in an "unremarkable" purchase. (Watch how quickly these guns can be fired, reloaded )

State police conducted an instant background check that probably took about a minute, the store owner said.

Markell said he was shocked when three agents from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms arrived at his store Monday with the receipt for the weapon.

The tragic murders of Virginia Tech students, apparently by an insane person, will prompt new attempts to ban private ownership of guns. Once guns are banned, crime will explode. Households and vulnerable members of society will lose the ability to defend, which will invite more intrusions and attacks. Knife crimes will rise as they have in Great Britain.

Gun prohibition will create a new industry for criminals—gun running and black market sales. Police will conduct stings by posing as black market gun dealers and entrap innocent citizens driven by fear and threat to secure means of personal protection.

A large industry of family businesses dedicated to meeting the needs of shooters, who would never shoot at anything but a paper or clay target, will be wiped out. Gun clubs will close their doors. Collectors of valuable Winchesters and Colts, beautiful pieces of Americana, will have to give them up or be at risk of prison sentences.

1) Wall provides secure perimeter and stops public entering campus
2) Security guards control access, with ID cards used by staff and students. CCTV cameras record movements of people and cars
3) Control room provides airport-style checks and acts as base for 25-30 campus police at typical college. Security systems monitored
4) Key buildings including labs and dorms have own security guard, CCTV and swipe card entry. Forced entry raises alarm
5) Tannoy system/siren conveys key information or raises alarm
6) Texts, automated phone calls and e-mails from control room warn students and staff of emergency and keep them updated
