clipper's remarks: I was listening to an internet radio neosoulcafe.com (which, by the way, internet radio is under threat). And I heard a song called "my block" by Tupac Shakur. While I was fairly familar with Tupac, I had a peep over on wikipedia and found this.

Tupac was a clever and angry young man. His album Thug Life was kind of a clever acronym of sorts....

For some reason, it reminded me of the faces of the children I have seen in Iraq photos. The victims of war. And I am reminded of what we do, what we have done, may not be over when we pull the troops out from those countries we have invaded. A long stretch from thug rapper to iraq? maybe? maybe not.

US shamed by Mandela terror link

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has asked for "embarrassing" travel restrictions on Nelson Mandela and South African leaders to be lifted.

A bill has been introduced in the US Congress to remove from databases any reference to South Africa's governing party and its leaders as terrorists.

The African National Congress (ANC) was designated as a terrorist organisation by South Africa's old apartheid regime.

At present a waiver is needed for any ANC leaders to enter the country.

"Amazingly, Nelson Mandela still needs to get a special waiver to enter the United States based on his courageous leadership of the ANC. What an indignity. This legislation will wipe it away," he said.

No governments have called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games, says International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge.

And pro-Tibet demonstrators plan to stage a protest outside the International Olympic Committee's Swiss headquarters on Tuesday.

Pro-Tibet demonstrators representing more than 150 Tibetan support groups will on Tuesday call for the IOC to block plans for the Olympic torch to pass through the region.

Shops on fire amid Tibet protests

Fires have broken out in the Tibetan city of Lhasa amid reports of rioting, as rare street protests led by Buddhist monks appeared to gather pace.

One eyewitness told the BBC how large groups of people were setting fire to cars and shops and destroying anything of Chinese influence.

Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, released a statement expressing deep concern, saying the protests were a "manifestation of the deep-rooted resentment of the Tibetan people".

The Dalai Lama, who heads Tibet's government-in-exile in India, called on the Chinese leadership to stop using force and begin dialogue with the Tibetan people.

He said about 300 monks had tried to leave the Sera monastery to protest but security forces brandishing clubs stopped them and at least one monk was beaten to the ground.

Tibet enjoyed long periods of autonomy before the twentieth century,

many Tibetans remain loyal to the Dalai Lama, who fled in 1959 and currently lives in exile in India.

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign took fresh aim at Hillary Clinton Wednesday for refusing to release her tax returns, asking in a memo circulated to reporters, "What does Clinton have to hide?"

"In the face of her unwillingness to release her tax returns, Hillary Clinton has made the false case in this campaign that she is more electable because she has been fully vetted," the memo stated. "When it comes to her personal finances, Senator Clinton’s refusal to release her taxes returns denies the media and the American people the opportunity to even begin that process."

Obama, who released his 2006 tax returns last April, stepped up his pressure on Clinton to release her documents early last month after it was revealed the New York senator loaned her campaign $5 million.

"I think the American people deserve to know where you get your income from," he said.

clipper's remarks: Negative campaigning, and baiting, here we come. We got just a taste of it when Team Billary spent Black History Month making well crafted cagey remarks. That was just the appetizer, here is the main course.

Now they've put the muzzle on half the team and have amped up the hate rhetoric, taking a leaf out of the Republican handbook on how to win elections and influence people. F-E-A-R.

I wonder if Obama remembers whitewater and learns how to use it in a sentence.

Going negative proved positive in Clinton's comeback

Gone was the misty-eyed Clinton who scored points showing her human side

who, just two weeks ago, drew thunderous applause for expressing her pride in running against Barack Obama

The new voice was angrier, sharper and far more negative toward Obama -- a voice that at one point bellowed at her rival, "Shame on you," as she pushed back against what she said was an unfair attack.

But as Clinton once again finds her voice, many Democrats worry that her new style and tone could damage the party's chances in November.

Her wins Tuesday make it unlikely that Clinton would heed advice to alter what has become a winning strategy, but she may begin hearing from some party leaders that she should, at a minimum, tone down her attacks on Obama.

He cited the Clinton ad in which a narrator warned of a crisis unfolding in "a dangerous world" at 3 a.m. and asked, "Who do you want answering the phone?"

The Icelandic singer, Bjork, has caused controversy among fans in China by shouting "Tibet! Tibet!" at the end of a concert in Shanghai

"I like Bjork", said one, "it's OK for her to have a different point of view, but for her to do this is disrespectful to fans here - very selfish of her".

The song Declare Independence has previously been used by Bjork to highlight other struggles for self-rule.

She dedicated a performance of it in Japan last month to Kosovo. She has also used the song to campaign for Greenland and the Faroe Islands - territories controlled by Denmark.

Her behaviour at the Shanghai concert has not been reported in the state-controlled Chinese media.

Talk of Tibetan independence is considered taboo in China, which has ruled the territory since 1951.

The cry followed a powerful performance of her song Declare Independence.

clipper's remarks: How can even the most ardent conservative supporter of the war in iraq look at these photos and not take umbrage with that we are doing there. I would put the disclaimer that the photos towards the end of this piece are very gruesome, but we should see them so we have no illusions about what we are doing to these people.

Saddam Hussein may have been an evil dictator, but when you see these photos, it is easy to see how we have replaced him tooth and nail in evil doing.

We have successfully replaced regime for regime and these children are next in line to repay us for our suffering.

It is a shame we have stripped so many beautiful children of their innocence and are sowing the seeds of hatred for their future.

If you don't believe me, take the time to actually study the photos here, and think if this was happening on your own soil, how you would feel. Your resentment and anger would be theirs.

As the nation celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it is fitting that Representative John Lewis, D. Ga., and Senator Edward M. Kennedy, D. Mass., should introduce the Civil Rights Act of 2008 this week, just days after King's birthday. The Act would restore civil rights protections Americans have counted on for decades.

"The introduction of the Civil Rights Act of 2008 could not come at a better time," said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

The bill will also hold state employers accountable for age discrimination, protect students from unlawful harassment in our schools, and improve the mechanisms of accountability for other civil rights and workers' rights violations.

Civil and human rights groups representing various communities applaud Sen. Kennedy's and Rep. Lewis' commitment to reversing the recent rollback in core civil rights protections.
