My question, after reading his remarks, was a bit cynical. How is it that a man, hailed from every liberal enclave on the entire planet as brilliant-beyond-brilliant, has utterly failed to master fourth-grade arithmetic? Unless, of course, his mouth, that organ of masterful oratory, is not, in fact, connected to his brain at all.

“The plan was divided into three parts. One-third of the money has gone to tax relief for families and small businesses. One-third of the money is cutting people’s taxes. one-third of the money was tax cuts. Another third of the money in the Recovery Act has been for emergency relief that is helping folks who’ve borne the brunt of this recession. So that’s the second half. First half, tax relief.

I have found the solution to the health care crisis and it is pretty complicated. It doesn't involve the Government, the President, or even the Congress. This chart might freak you out, so I want you to prepare yourself for this complex model.

The professor was black, the cop was white, and alas, that's all it takes to get something started in America, circa 2009.

Mr. Gates accused the cops of asking impertinent questions simply because he's black (or "African-American," in the current fashion). President Obama agreed. In the endless retelling of the tale, the white neighbor who called the cops told the police dispatcher that "two black guys" were trying to break into the Gates abode. A review of the police 911 tape revealed Monday that the caller actually told the dispatcher that "two gentlemen" were trying to get into the door; she subsequently referred to one of them as a "gentleman" and to both of them as "individuals." Nothing about color.

Obama asks Americans to set aside health-care fears

U.S. President Barack Obama delivers remarks about healthcare reform legislation that is before Congress in the Rose Garden at the White House July 21, 2009, in Washington, DC.

"As a result of the action we took in those first weeks (in office), we have been able to pull our economy back from the brink," Mr. Obama said.

With Congress now wavering on White House demands to pass a US$1-trillion-plus health care bill before the fall, Mr. Obama warned a failure to overhaul the system now will lead to ballooning costs and force millions of more Americans to lose their coverage over the next decade.

Obama on Afghanistan: victory is a four-letter word

Has a US Commander in Chief ever spoken this way in the middle of a war?

President Obama has put securing Afghanistan near the top of his foreign policy agenda, but "victory" in the war-torn country isn't necessarily the United States' goal, he said Thursday in a TV interview.

I'm always worried about using the word 'victory,' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur.

Obama's errors are not random; they fit a certain pattern:

(1) glorification of other cultures and countries at the expense of the US

(2) exaggeration of the negatives about the US and downplaying of our strengths

(3) negative point of view about military endeavors

(4) exaggeration and/or imagining the role cooperation and negotiation plays, particularly with tyrants and enemies

(5) assuming the carrot of negotiation and dialogue is enough to change tyrants and enemies without the stick

Yet, as the unemployment rate climbs beyond the administration's projections, Vice President Joe Biden informs us that the administration "misread how bad the economy was."

The administration genuinely believed, against all historical experience, that government spending would boost us out of the recession. And it knew it had to assume an unrealistically rapid, robust economic recovery, because otherwise the already-horrid deficit projections would look worse. So Obama talked up the crisis to get the stimulus passed, and after that

Out of the $787 billion of the stimulus, roughly 60 percent goes to individuals in temporary tax rebates and increased entitlement spending.

Public Option To Cut Health Costs? Medicare's Record Says Dream On

'First, the rising cost of health care must be brought down." That's what President Obama recently declared when outlining the basic principles of his health care plan.

The centerpiece of President Obama's plan is a "public option," described by Tom Daschle as "a government-run insurance program, modeled after Medicare." The president asserts that this new Medicare-like program would cut costs.

The president himself says that "over the last decade" Americans "have seen their out-of-pocket expenses soar." But, according to official government figures, per-patient out-of-pocket costs have risen only 35% since 2000, while Medicare's per-patient costs have risen 59% — again, even without the prescription drug benefit.

this would suggest that the key to lowering costs is to let consumers control more of their own resources — that when they have the freedom and incentive to pursue value, they know how to keep costs down
