WICHITA, Kan. — Deputies say a woman in western Kansas became stuck on her boyfriend's toilet after sitting on it for two years.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

This is the moment a 21-year-old man diced with death as he played on tracks as a train came hurtling towards him.

Showing off in front of his friends, Andrew Ogden, from Astley Village, Chorley, struck a pose standing right in front of an oncoming train.

The dangerous near-miss was captured on CCTV cameras at Rylands level crossing in Chorley on July 14.

Just before 10pm that night, Ogden and three friends were walking across the level crossing when Ogden stopped and stood with his arms raised in front of the train.

He jumped out of the way at the last possible moment before the Northern Rail 20.48 Manchester Airport to Blackpool service sped past at 50mph.

The driver of the train was unsurprisingly left extremely shaken and had to finish work for the night before being signed off work for a week by his doctor.

Ogden pleaded guilty to obstruction without intent and will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 7 January 2008.

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. — Sister Kathy Avery won't put up with swearing on the playground at her school, and she's not above repeating the offending language to make sure everyone understands which words she won't tolerate.

The principal of St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic School had students stay after a Mass last month and informed the fifth- through eighth-graders that she has a zero-tolerance policy for cursing.

Just in case anyone wasn't sure what she was talking about, Avery read off a list of the very words and phrases that she was banning.

"It got a little quiet in church" during her talk, she told the Detroit Free Press.

Some parents were shocked, but others applauded, the newspaper said.

"In a way you would think a nun would shy away from something like that, but she's very open with the children, very clear in her messages," said Margaret Roache, chairperson of the school commission.

A man who says he bit into a Burger King sandwich and found an unwrapped condom inside has sued the owner of the restaurant.

Van Miguel Hartless, 24, of Fair Haven, said Friday he bought the Southwestern Whopper at a Burger King in Rutland on June 18 and made the discovery when he got home and started eating it.

"My third bite into the burger, it was just a foreign taste," he said. "It was a very sour, bitter sort of taste. It almost had a numbing sensation.

"As I went to bite down a little harder, I felt a rubber grind in between my teeth. I saw it half in my mouth, half hanging out. It was an immediate sick-to-my-stomach type of thing."

Hartless said he has suffered from vomiting, nightmares and emotional distress. He said he also has incurred medical expenses, because he is worried about whether the condom had been used.

He said stored the sandwich and its original wrapper in a plastic bag in a freezer in his garage.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport woman received five years of probation Thursday for attempting to sell her 4-year-old son to help pay for a wedding dress.

Marcy Gant, 32, was convicted in October of purchase or sale of an individual and could have been sentenced up to 10 years in prison.

Gant was arrested in October 2006 after offering her son to a retailer to settle a $200 bill for the dress. Police said Gant offered the trade at least twice.

Gant's sons, ages 4 and 10 at the time, have been removed from the home by Iowa Department of Human Services.

Prosecutor Julie Walton requested prison time for Gant, citing "out-of-control behavior" fueled by alcoholism.

Lauren Phelps, Gant's attorney, requested probation.

"She's making better choices," Phelps said, saying she is keeping in touch with her children and maintaining a stable residence. "She's doing things she needs to do."

NEW YORK - A New York counterterrorism detective who was fired after he said he failed a drug test because his wife spiked his meatballs with marijuana has filed a lawsuit to recover his job.

Anthony Chiofalo has asked the court to declare his firing from the New York Police Department unreasonable and unconstitutional.

He also wants the court to declare a damning hair sample was improperly taken and order his rehiring with back pay plus interest, seniority and all benefits.

Court papers say Chiofalo's wife, Catherine Chiofalo, said she secretly put enough marijuana for about six cigarettes in her meatball recipe in July 2005, hoping a failed blood test would force him to retire.

A police department spokesman, John Kelly, said in an e-mailed comment on Chiofalo's firing: "The officer's excuse was not credible."

JACKSON, Mississippi — Police say a Mississippi man's wedding band deflected a bullet and probably saved his life.

Two men walked into Donnie Register's shop at The Antique Market in Jackson on Saturday and asked to see a coin collection, police Sgt. Jeffery Scott said.

When Register retrieved the collection, one of the men pulled a gun and demanded money. A shot was fired as Register threw up his left hand, and his wedding ring deflected the bullet, police said.

"The bullet managed to go through two of his fingers without severing the bone," said his wife, Darlene Register. "A part of the bullet broke off and is in his middle finger. The other part is in his neck, lodged in the muscle tissue. But it's not life-threatening."

She said she gives God all the credit.

Police were searching for the robbers, who Scott said "stole a substantial amount of cash."

MISSOULA, Mont. - A college student accused of shoving a pumpkin pie into the face of a shopping-mall Santa Claus has been charged with misdemeanour assault.

Twenty-two-year-old Clint Westwood says he "lightly smooshed" the pie into the man's face Friday.

Westwood, a drama student at the University of Montana, said he videotaped the encounter and plans to include the clip in an upcoming film.

He said that after the pie ruckus on Wednesday, he expected to approach Santa for a signature on a film-release form, but police arrived first.

Sgt. Travis Welsh of the Missoula Police Department says it's a good thing Westwood didn't wait around, because Santa would have "laid him out."

Westwood said he and companions had waited for a girl about 15 years old to finish sitting on Santa's lap before the pie hit his face, but then decided it would be funnier if she was still sitting there.

Florida Student Facing Battery Charges for Throwing Crayon at Teacher

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 14-year-old Florida student on Thursday was facing a third-degree battery charge after throwing a crayon at his teacher, FOX affiliate WAWS reports.

Taewon Little was kicked out of the A. Philip Randolph Academy in Jacksonville and arrested, but his mother said the punishment is too harsh and called her son a model student.

"I felt like they really blew this out of proportion by charging my child with a misdemeanor and taking him to court," Robyn Little said.

Robyn Little said she grounded her son for the act but added that he has never missed a day of school and even attends college preparatory classes on Saturdays.

The school’s principal said Taewon Little will not be allowed re-entry into the school until he completes courses in an alternate learning program.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A troublesome trio of transvestites allegedly laid siege to a Memphis McDonald's restaurant Sunday night, sparking a brawl with the restaurant's crew, according to reports.

Restaurant employee Martez Brisco was working the drive-through window when he reportedly got into an argument with the suspects. When Brisco ignored them tapping at the window, they came in.

"They come to the window, 'Tap, tap, tap.' I'm still ignoring them," Brisco told WMC-TV. "I guess that just pissed them off worser."

The transvestites allegedly struck the manager with a tire iron, and when he swung back, the drag queens took off their stiletto boots, removed their earrings and prepared to attack. The manager, Albert Bolton, was covered with scratch marks after suspects clawed him with their fingernails.

Bolton grabbed a pot of scalding french-fry grease and hurled it at his attackers. One of the cross-dressers then smacked Bolton with a wet floor sign
