years ago. Most complaints we hear about presentations today were
current then, too: ambiguous and repetitive bullet points,
speakers reading their slides, no proper audience handouts, and
more. PowerPoint didn't create any of these familiar ways to fall
short. But I also hear a complaint that really is new with
PowerPoint: that more and more business and academic talks look
like poor attempts at sales presentations, swamped by gaudy
visual ornamentation with no purpose or benefit related to the
presentation. This has come about not simply through a mass
failure of taste but as a result of a change in presentation
technology made possible by PowerPoint.

<clipSource>http://delivery.acm.org/10.1145/1330000/1323710/p15-gaskins.html?key1=1323710&key2=2514717911&coll=portal&dl=ACM&CFID=15151515&CFTOKEN=6184618</clipSource>

Google Docs adds Presentation

clipped by: NS-Clips

Clip Source: groups.google.com

Let's break out the champagne and celebrate presentations! Yes, you
heard correctly -- after a long period of waiting and wondering, we've
launched our Google Docs presentations feature.

What does this mean for us users?

Just like spreadsheets and documents, it means we can now share, edit,
and view presentations online in real time. Awesome!

No need to wait -- give it a try by clicking "New" > "Presentation"
from your Docs list.

Ready to dive in and become a presentations master? Cool -- just visit
the Help Center (docs.google.com/support ) and click the brand new
"Presentations" tab, to the right of the "Spreadsheets" tab.

Tags: google, presentation

<clipSource>http://groups.google.com/group/GDSupdates/msg/92975426a7f852fe</clipSource>

Slide share FAQs

clipped by: NS-Clips

Clip Source: www.slideshare.net

This is a good step in the right direction. Slides alone are not something I get too excited about, but narration with visual support is something much better. There is some potential here. There are no transition effects available, but I do not see that as a huge problem since the effects are abused much of the time anyway. If you wanted to make a slide show set to music you would want to use something like iPhoto exported to QuickTime to get the emotion of fades, etc. (This is what I used last summer to create our Hawaii wedding slideshow). But for teaching something or reporting something, etc. in a straight forward manner, the simplicity of Slidecast's output works well. I think I'll be using it in future. Below you can see a sample bit I did very quickly to see if it works.
