This unique "S" (or "8" in some perspectives) is much easier than it looks. Just draw a few straight lines, connect them, and you're done!

Draw two rows of 3 vertical lines.

Connect with 2 angled lines.

Connect outside lines to center of "s".

Add top lines.

Add bottom lines to finish.

Add color!

Google Launches Lively to Create a Virtual World Across Social Networks

Google has just launched Lively, a new social network built around the concept of each user creating an avatar and a personal virtual room that can be embedded anywhere on the Web. In essence, Google is looking to create a massive distributed virtual world, where every Google account can have its own avatar that can be used wherever a Lively virtual room is present – for example, on a blog, a social networking profile, or a Web page.

Is This Google’s New Social Networking Strategy?

Wang tells me that Lively came about during Google’s famous “20 percent time,” where engineers devote 1/5th of their time to their own ideas and projects. But, it’s safe to say that this project may turn into much more. Tying an avatar to your Google account that can be used anywhere there is a Lively room is a unique idea that takes advantage of Google’s huge userbase.

How To Photograph Fireworks

Here are some basic tips - this is not intended as an all-inclusive article, but rather a starting point.

1. Scout out and stake out your favorite spot early.

2. Use a tripod.

3. Use long shutter speeds. For most fireworks photos, an ISO of 250 with a four-second exposure at f8 should be a good starting point.

4. If your camera has a long-exposure noise reduction mode, use it.

5. DO NOT use flash. It won’t help.

6. Set your focus point to infinity and then disable autofocus.

7. Bring several formatted memory cards.

8. If possible, use a strong foreground object such as a local landmark to set the fireworks against.

9. Bring a small flashlight so you can read your camera’s dials in the dark.

10. Don’t forget to shoot both vertical and horizontal views of the fireworks…

Experiment and have fun. You’ll get the best results if you practice your technique.

R2-D2. Lucas got the name R2-D2 while filming American Graffiti. During a sound-mixing session for the film, editor Walter Murch asked him for R2, D2 (Reel 2, Dialogue 2) of the film. Lucas liked the name so much that he made a note of it, and eventually found the right character for it.

C-3PO. Inspired by a robot character in Alex Raymond's science fiction novel, Iron Men of Mongo. Raymond's robot was a copper-colored, polite robot who was shaped like a man who worked as a servant. Lucas intended that C-3PO and R2-D2 be a space-age Laurel and Hardy team.

Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lucas got his idea for Obi-Wan Kenobi and "the Force" after reading Carlos Castaneda'sTales of Power, an account of Don Juan, a Mexican-Indian sorcerer and his experiences with what he called "the life force."

The most common mistakes due to phonetic differences are as follows:
1. The inability to differentiate between "R" and "L" (the Japanese "R" being closer to the Spanish "R" with a trill sound); samples found within Engrish.com include "Eric Crapton"and the word "Engrish" itself. Other famous examples include the misuse of the word "erection" (instead of "election").
2. The pronunciation "shi" (or "shee") vs. "see". Common mistakes found are variations on "shit" vs. "sit" - there have been a number of reported sightings of "baby-shitter" in place of "baby-sitter", and you can find one instance of "shituation" in place of "situation" within Engrish.com.
3. Lack of “th” or “v” sounds in Japanese - "th" is often replaced with an "s" sound, while "b" is most often substituted for "v".
