Why Do Beautiful Women Sometimes Marry Unattractive Men?

It may be that the unattractive man has a lot of money, or some other compelling attribute.

But a new study by Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics, suggests it may be a simple supply-and-demand issue: there are more beautiful women in the world than there are handsome men.

because good-looking parents are 36% more likely to have a baby daughter as their first child than a baby son

which suggests, evolutionarily speaking, that beauty is a trait more valuable for women than for men.

According to this news article, “Selection pressure means when parents have traits they can pass on that are better for boys than for girls, they are more likely to have boys. Such traits include large size, strength and aggression, which might help a man compete for mates. On the other hand, parents with heritable traits that are more advantageous to girls are more likely to have daughters.”

Beauty is apparently just one “female” trait.

Purple stands out as a feminine color because it is chosen almost exclusively by women as a favorite color and is strongly disliked by men.

the color pink has such strong negative associations for men that some uses of the color may be considered insulting to men.

Is It Still Time To Become Mother?

The number of women over 40 having IVF treatment has soared despite concerns over the possible health risks to mother and baby.

Half of births are now to mothers aged over 30

In 1991, when the HFEA was established, there were 596 non-donor cycles of IVF treatment given to women aged between 40 and 45, representing 9.2 per cent of the total.

In 2006, there were 6,174 cycles, 15.5 per cent of the total. The biggest rise has been in the last six years, from 10.7 per cent of all cycles in 2000 to 15.5 per cent.

But for women aged 40 the rise has been far less dramatic. Last year only around 12 per cent had a successful pregnancy with IVF. For those aged 44 the success rate is less than 3 per cent.

Dr Gillian Lockwood, medical director of Midland Fertility Services, said: "Women think that 40 is the new 30. Today's women look so young and think so young that they simply can't accept that their reproductive system is not going to be young as well.

One of Nepal's most famous female mountaineers has died in a climbing accident in the Himalayas.

Pemba Doma Sherpa fell at about 8,000m while descending Lhotse south of Mount Everest, officials at the trekking firm where she was a director told the BBC.

Two Sherpas died with Ms Sherpa on Lhotse, the world's fourth highest peak. She was Nepal's first woman to climb Mount Everest by its north face.

Two years after that 2000 climb, she again conquered the world's tallest peak from its south side.

The 32-year-old was believed to be one of only six women who had scaled the mountain twice, most recently as part of the 2002 Nepalese women's expedition.

Be your gender what it may, you will certainly have heard the following from a female friend who is enumerating the charms of a new (male) squeeze: "He's really quite cute, and he's kind to my friends, and he knows all kinds of stuff, and he's so funny … " (If you yourself are a guy, and you know the man in question, you will often have said to yourself, "Funny? He wouldn't know a joke if it came served on a bed of lettuce with sauce béarnaise.") However, there is something that you absolutely never hear from a male friend who is hymning his latest (female) love interest: "She's a real honey, has a life of her own … [interlude for attributes that are none of your business] … and, man, does she ever make 'em laugh."

Now, why is this? Why is it the case?,

Why are women, who have the whole male world at their mercy, not funny?
