clipper's remarks: Another BBC post, I do read other sites, but I figured this I should share.

Virgin plan to send letters to those people it feels are downloading and sharing music, working in conjunction with the BPI.

Ok, so I know there is the whole legal issue here, but the context of the article is more related to TV shows, and I must admit, the guy has a point, we've all done it at some point I'm sure, whether it's downloading, or streaming from site like youtube.
For instance, right now I'm watching music videos for Poets of the Fall on youtube, totally illegal, but the easiest way to see them.

At the moment I'm using the 20Mb service from Virgin, and although it suits my needs (I have a housemate who uses it lots, I play the xbox online lots, and I host an FTP server for my dad to backup his files every night, so bandwidth usage is hgh) I may consider changing if this is the shape of things to come.

Virgin territory for ISPs

Bill Thompson believes Virgin Media has decided it likes record companies more than its customers.

The chances are that I'll be getting a letter from my internet service provider (ISP) in the next few weeks telling me that they've been watching my network activity closely and think I've been breaking the law.

Virgin Media, who used to be called NTL before they acquired Virgin Mobile and turned themselves into a "four-play" media company, has announced that it is working with record industry lobby group, the British Phonographic Industry, to write to customers whose network connection seems to have been used to download unlicensed content.

According to the BPI's press release the letters are part of a "new education campaign to help Virgin Media's broadband customers safely download music from the internet and avoid the risk of legal action".

Like a kid who hates ice cream, Debbie and Andrew Keeble discovered a newborn piglet on their farm with a highly unusual character trait - she's scared of mud.

The North Yorkshire couple was at a loss when their tiny porker refused to get her hooves dirty.

They soon came up with a solution ripped straight from the pages of a children's book. They realized that a pair of rubber booties from a Paddington Bear toy "fit the young porker's tiny trotters like a glove," they told British paper the Daily Mail.

Japan woman lived in man's closet

A woman has been arrested in Japan for sneaking into a man's house and living in his closet without him knowing.

Police found 58-year-old Tatsuko Horikawa living in a small storage space in the house in the southern city of Fukuoka.

The house belonged to a 57-year-old man, who had become suspicious after food disappeared from his fridge.

So he installed a surveillance system, which filmed the woman as she walked around in his absence.

On Wednesday afternoon police searched the house and found the woman in her cubby hole.

"She seems to have lived there for about a year, but not all the time."

Blindfold teen sets Rubik record

Solving the Rubik's cube is impossible for many people, but one Leeds teenager has set a new record for cracking the puzzle - blindfolded.

Joey Gouly, 17, found it such a doddle to solve the cube with his eyes open that he set himself a new challenge.

His quick-handed technique has now earned him the national record for performing the feat blindfolded in two minutes and 27 seconds.

This is how it starts, just a baloon, just a crisp packet, just a cigarette box. Everyone who litters thinks exactly the same thing. I see it all round where I live, kids dropping fast food wrappers, parents dropping plastic wrap of cigarette boxes, it disgusts me.

I say he should be fined more! And his mother for defending the little littering gobsh**e.

Boy is fined for dropping balloon

A teenager who was fined for littering when he dropped a deflated balloon in a city centre may fight the case.

Max Twizell, 16, of Heddon-on-the-Wall in Northumberland, was given a £50 litter fine after dropping the balloon in old Eldon Square, Newcastle.

His mother Lorraine said the penalty was "excessive" and is seeking legal advice over whether to pay it.

Max said: "£50 is a lot of money to me. I know I did something wrong, but if the warden had asked me to pick it up I would have done. But it was just a balloon."

Woman 'married' to Berlin Wall for 29 years

A woman with a bizarre fetish for inaninimate objects has revealed she has been married to the Berlin Wall for 29 years.

Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer, 54, whose surname means Berlin Wall in German, wed the concrete structure in 1979 after being diagnosed with a condition called Objectum-Sexuality.

Mrs Berliner-Mauer, whose fetish is said to have its roots in childhood, claimed she fell in love with the structure when she first saw it on television when she was seven.

She began collecting "his" pictures and saving up for visits. On her sixth trip in 1979 they tied the knot before a handful of guests.

Mrs Berliner-Mauer, who lives in Liden, northern Sweden, said: "I find long, slim things with horizontal lines very sexy.

"The Great Wall of China's attractive, but he’s too thick – my husband is sexier."

Cat puts Japan rail firm on track

A loss-making Japanese railway company is back on track thanks to the popularity of a stray cat.

Wearing a black cap and posing for photos with passengers, Tama the tabby is credited with boosting Wakayama Electric Railway's revenue by 10%.

The firm had to axe all staff at Kishi station in western Japan two years ago.

But Tama stuck by her post and was rewarded with promotion to station manager. The pet mascot even has her own office, a former ticket booth.

The nine-year-old - who receives cat food in lieu of a salary - won national stardom last year when the firm formally appointed her as "station master".

Police stamp out anti-theft trick

A US shop owner with an innovative way of giving shoplifting the boot has been told it could land him in jail.

Gabe Fidanque, an off-licence owner in Colorado, said he was losing $1,000 a month and police were doing little to prevent shoplifters targeting his shop.

He had taken to telling shoplifters he would call the police if they did not hand over one of their shoes.

But police told him his punishment counted as a felony robbery, whereas shoplifting is merely a misdemeanour.

"I give them the choice. I say, 'I'm either going to call the cops or you give me one of your shoes'," Mr Fidanque told The Durango Herald.

"They're too humiliated to come back and ask for their shoe, and that also means they won't steal again.

Mr Fidanque has reluctantly agreed to abide by the police warning, and has also agreed to return shoes he has confiscated to their owners, if he can find them.

"It was a good try, but I'll have to figure something else out," he said.

Couple celebrate 80th anniversary

A couple thought to have been married longer than anyone in the country have celebrated their 80th anniversary.

Frank and Anita Milford, from Plymouth, exchanged vows on 26 May, 1928.

Frank is 100 and when Anita also turns 100 in June it is thought they will be the only living couple in Britain to have both reached a century.

Their 73-year-old son, also called Frank, said it was going to be a quiet celebration as his parents did not want any fuss. He said: "We are going to have a nice lunch and a nice tea.

He said his parents had always told him the secret of their long marriage was to "always have a kiss and cuddle at night - never go to bed with any bad feeling".

The pair met at a YMCA dance in the St Budeaux area of Plymouth in 1926 and were married two years later at Torpoint registry office.

A warrior's dignity

Despite thieves, illness and the loss of an arm in war, an 84-year-old decorates the graves of fellow vets each year

The wind carries only one sound through the desolate countryside, and it is a faint one: the tinkling of a miniature wind chime suspended from a shepherd's hook over a baby's grave.

Across the gravel drive, down the hill and under the branches of the white oak trees, he winds his way through row after row of modern markers. He passes the graves decorated with concrete angels, and walks by the headstones etched with sayings about heaven and tears.

Finally, 84-year-old Lloyd Ford reaches his destination. He bends down toward a brass flag holder and plucks an Old Glory so faded you can barely tell the red from the white. He tucks the tattered flag against his side, holding it between his body and his stump -- all that a 75 mm weapon left of his arm when it recoiled during weapons testing in World War II. He drops in a new flag, this one crisp and colorful.

Lloyd Ford made his rounds despite spending a week in a VA hospital recently and then finding that most of the brass flag holders were missing -- probably stolen -- from graves.

Cannabis blunder at Tokyo airport

An unwitting passenger arriving at Japan's Narita airport has received 142g of cannabis after a customs test went awry, officials say.

A customs officer hid a package of the banned narcotic in a side pocket of a randomly chosen suitcase in order to test airport security.

Sniffer dogs failed to detect the cannabis and the officer could not remember which bag he had put it in.

Anyone finding the package has been asked to contact customs officials.
