This is a Cuban tree frog on a tree in my backyard in southern Florida. How and why he ate this light is a mystery. It should be noted that at the time I was taking this photo, I thought this frog was dead having cooked himself from the inside. I’m happy to say I was wrong. After a few shots he adjusted his position. So after I was finished shooting him, I pulled the light out of his mouth and he was fine. Actually, I might be crazy but I don’t think he was very happy when I took his light away.

POTTSBORO, Texas - North Texas authorities seized 22 dogs found crammed inside a station wagon with their owner. The owner locked the car doors and refused to come out when a constable tried to serve her a warrant for the seizure of the dogs early Monday, said SPCA spokeswoman Maura Davies.

Two puppies and 20 dogs were taken to a shelter until a judge decides who gets custody, the SPCA said. A hearing on the custody of the animals is set for Feb. 16 in Denison.

The dogs were in the car along with a pot of water, blankets and waste.

Weird "Walking" Frogfish

It's a Frog Fish! And it doesn't just walk idly around, it stalks the sea floor LURING, and trying to catch things floating around:

It walks! but doesn't talk (thankfully) - Sargasso frogfish, Histrio histrio

Watch it walk the ocean floor on its flimsy legs (pelvic fins), looking like a fluffy rabbit; sharks swim around, but won't touch it (too frigging cute?). So what, in the name of the global warming, is this thing?

This Giant frogfish - Antennarius commerson - resembles a weedy rock and blends very well with the coral sponge (if not for the eyes and mouth):

They easily change color, including some very bright hues (different species of frog and angler-fish are difficult to identify, in general) -

Some present an ugly inscrutable face, and some are... freckled - Antennarius coccineus (freckled frogfish):

Some of the are "fuzzy" (right), some of them are "hairy" (left) - Antennarius hispidus / Antennarius striatus -

Or it can look like a goblin, or a potato:

Eighth grader Charlie Sobcov wants to stop birds from dying in collisions with windows, but he doesn't want to ruin anybody's view.

For his latest school science fair project he has invented painted, plastic decals that can be placed — discreetly — right in the middle of a window pane.

"This paint is a colour that birds can see but humans can't," he said Wednesday on CBC Radio's All in a Day. "It's like putting a big stop sign in the middle of the window."

The colour is ultraviolet, beyond the range of colours visible to humans. That means the "stop sign" lets birds know the window is solid, but is nearly invisible to humans.

He later read that about 500 million birds a year in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada were dying as a result of crashing into windows. Many deadly bird collision are with the windows of skyscrapers along their migratory paths.
