Queer eye for presidential guy

CAMP English comedian Julian Clary has cast his vote in the race for the Democrat presidential nomination in the U.S.

Predictably, perhaps, he isn't all that beguiled by female hopeful Hillary Clinton.

Not that he's saying anything about her policies – his comments are superficial, even in the "image is everything" world of American politics.

"Poor Hillary!" he said.

"However can she compete against someone as gorgeous as Barack Obama?

"It's like pitching Maggie Thatcher against Lewis Hamilton.

"The voting public are drawn to the perfect teeth and dusky hue. We can't help ourselves"

Is homosexuality the biggest test of love?

Remember Jesus’ parable of the seven virgins? They met the Bridegroom, who came as a thief in the night, because they kept oil in their lamps.

What brand of “oil” is that? Can I get some if I’m not a virgin?

Since Jesus spoke mostly in parables, “oil” might mean something else.

“Virgins” could also mean someone else.

I can’t help but think that “oil” means true love, and “virgins” are those who truly love.

Maybe the biggest test of love for us today is homosexuality.

What if, when I die and get to the Pearly Gates, I find not Saint Peter, but Jesus standing there with another man beside him?

“So very glad you’re here with us,” Jesus might say. “I want you to meet my eternal partner, Lazarus.”

What will I do?

If I shun Jesus at the Pearly Gates because he has a male lover, have I, at that same moment, picked hell rather than be with Jesus and Lazarus?

Texas Congressman Ron Paul beat out the former one-day record held by John Kerry at $5.7 million in 2004. The Ron Paul presidential campaign raised over $6 million in a 24 hour period on Sunday, December 16, 2007.

The record breaking day consisted of nearly 60,000 people contributing to the campaign. Almost 25,000 of these Paulites were first-time donors. Over 118,000 people have contributed to the Ron Paul Campaign during the 2007 4th quarter.

The fundraiser coincided with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, symbolizing the start of the American Revolution.

On Saturday, prior to the fundraiser Congressman Paul had this to say: “How thrilling too are all the great Independent efforts in this cause, involving so many tens of thousands of patriots. Of course, since they are Independent, the election laws to do not allow me to coordinate with them in any way. But I will mention that this Sunday, I am really going to enjoy my tea at a party!”

Rhode Island Says No To Gay Couple Divorce

clipper's remarks: Why is this making the news? Don't we already know that states which don't allow gay marriage also don't allow gay divorce because it is already not recognized in the state?

I am gay and also support gay marriage but it is ridiculous to expect this of a state that does not recognize gay marriage. If you were able to go to MA in the first place for marriage then you should go back for the divorce.

This is even more ridiculous when considering the fact that the couple were never legally married in their home state anyway.

However, had Rhode Island decided to grant the divorce - that would have been real news!

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island's Supreme Court says a lesbian couple who married in Massachusetts cannot get divorced in their home state.

The 3-2 split decision came yesterday.

In the majority opinion, Justice William Robinson III says that the General Assembly has not given the Family Court the power to grant divorces for same-sex couples.

Cassandra Ormiston and Margaret Chambers wed in Massachusetts in 2004 after that state became the first to legalize same-sex marriages. The couple filed for divorce last year in Rhode Island, where they both live.

Lawyers for the women had said they should consider only whether Rhode Island could recognize a valid marriage from another state. Opponents of same-sex marriage said granting the divorce would create a slippery slope.

clipper's remarks: The question of what GOP comes up on occasion so I thought I'd clip this tidbit of information as a point of reference for others. It seems as though GOP has become a brandname amongst the Republican Party and it's real meaning gets lost along the way.

A favorite of headline writers, GOP dates back to the 1870s and '80s. The abbreviation was cited in a New York Herald story on October 15, 1884; "' The G.O.P. Doomed,' shouted the Boston Post.... The Grand Old Party is in condition to inquire...."

Perhaps the use of "the G.O.M." for Britain's Prime Minister William E. Gladstone in 1882 as " the Grand Old Man" stimulated the use of GOP in the United States soon after.

Indeed, the "grand old party" is an ironic term, since the Democrat Party was organized some 22 years earlier in 1832.

Australia - Howard Defeated - Gays Cheer!

Thankfully the majority of the population shared the same views. The GLBT Community in Australia are hopeful for new legislation in support of the community with the Labor Party leading the way.

(Sydney, Australia) Prime Minister John Howard's Liberal government suffered a crushing defeat to the opposition Labor Party led by Kevin Rudd (pictured) on Saturday.

Howard's ouster ended 11 years leading Australia with most Australian's seeing him as "yesterday's man". Howard even lost his own seat in Parliament.

The vote ends longstanding disagreements between Howard's Liberals and Australia's gay community over recognizing same-sex relationships.

In 2004 Howard's government passed legislation limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples.

My friend Ann and her girlfriend are having IVF in New York. My friend Hatty is “basting” every month in London with a gay male friend who has offered to help her have the baby she longs for. My mate Shona shacked up with her boyfriend the day she met him, and was pregnant after two months. They all ask: do you think I'm doing the right thing?

What can I say? Except that it's pure luck that I ended up with a nice bloke, two children and a ring on my finger, and I could never judge any of these three for finding their own way to make a family. They are educated, they are solvent, they are mature, they have inner resources that will make them great parents.

The gay, lesbian bisexual and transgender (GLBT) market in the US is estimated to number approximately 15 million with an annual purchasing power of $660 billion. And many of them are online.

The Gay and Lesbian Internet Users report tracks the growth of a trend-setting marketing segment that has more disposable income and discretionary time than its heterosexual counterpart.

The GLBT community has embraced the Internet with vigor.

Gay and lesbian Internet users are very active on social networking sites and blogs, regularly purchase goods and services online and conduct a good deal of their travel arrangements online.

eMarketer estimates there were 12.1 million adult GLBT Internet users in the US in 2007, representing 7.9% of the adult Internet user population.
