Palin on FOX News: Economy Is a ‘Mess,’ Workforce is Strong

Sarah Palin, in her second media interview since becoming John McCain’s running mate, told FOX News Wednesday that the economy is a “mess” and defended the Republican presidential nominee against charges that he believes the markets are merely experiencing a hiccup.

Palin told FOX News’ Sean Hannity that it was “unfair” for Barack Obama to criticize McCain earlier in the week for saying “the fundamentals of our economy are strong.” She said McCain was clearly talking about the workforce.

“It was an unfair attack on the verbiage that Senator McCain chose to use, because … he means our workforce, he means the ingenuity of the American people,” Palin said. “And of course that is strong and that is the foundation of our economy. So that was an unfair attack there.”

“Certainly it is a mess though. The economy is a mess,” Palin said. “And there have been abuses on Wall Street, and that adversely affects Main Street.”

Tea 'healthier' drink than water

Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers.

The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates.

The researchers recommend people consume three to four cups a day

Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found.

Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health.

Healthy cuppa

These polyphenol antioxidants are found in many foods and plants, including tea leaves, and have been shown to help prevent cell damage.

Public health nutritionist Dr Carrie Ruxton, and colleagues at Kings College London, looked at published studies on the health effects of tea consumption.

They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack.

Widely believed in the United States, creationism - the belief that God created the earth and man in six days - is enjoying a resurgence of support in the UK, say its believers and its critics.

The revelation that US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin says creationism should be taught in schools, alongside that of evolutionary theory, has raised few eyebrows in the US. An estimated 47% of Americans reject outright Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, accepting instead the Bible's account of the creation of the universe - as laid out in the first chapter of Genesis.

But in Britain, where a portrait of Darwin appears on the back of the £10 note, his theory of life evolving from primitive to complex structures by means of natural selection appears to be unchallenged orthodoxy.

"Evolution is a world-view that leads to futility. It's no wonder people are dissatisfied with it."

Winehouse jibe wins Fringe's funniest gag

A tasteless jibe at the expense of galactically-talented bouffant platform Amy Winehouse has secured the Edinburgh Fringe festival's funniest gag crown for comedienne Zoe Lyons.

Lyons (pictured) entertained the crowds during her Mangled Mantra of the Messed-up Modern Mind show with the winning: "I can't believe Amy Winehouse self-harms. She's so irritating she must be able to find someone to do it for her."

Describing her feelings on having been awarded the inaugural Dave TV channel comedy award, the Brighton-based 33-year-old enthused: "I am absolutely delighted to have won the award. I know self-harming is not funny but it's just a joke, so I'm not going to beat myself up about it."

The championship side-splitter was one of thirty selected by 10 of Blighty's leading comedy critics from 60 comedy performances, which were then put to 2,000 members of the public for a final vote.

After seeing one user's "Jesus Shot" video from Tiger Woods 08, (you'll find it just after the break), wherein a glitched Tiger walks over a pond to make a shot, EA answered back with its own video that Levinator25's supposed bug was, in fact, a mind-blowing feature. Bravo, EA. Bravo.

Fast food is essentially made up of low-quality byproducts of better food. Leftover cow parts, ground pig parts... you can use your imagination. So it's best for fast food companies to stick with happy clowns and assorted other mascots in their ads, staying as far as possible from any image that could make you consider what's actually in the food you're buying. And they should especially make sure they never draw any parallels between their product and human flesh. I mean, yuck. So tell us, McDonald's, what went wrong here?:

Boris Johnson team in chaos as another deputy mayor resigns

Boris Johnson’s administration in the capital suffered a severe blow yesterday when Tim Parker, the most senior member of his team, quit abruptly, only weeks after taking up his post.

In the latest staffing controversy to engulf the Mayor of London, Mr Parker — a City executive with a slash-and-burn reputation — resigned as first deputy mayor and chief of staff.

His departure is particularly embarrassing for Mr Johnson because it follows two other high-profile resignations during the first 100 days of his mayoralty, raising questions about his judgment, experience and the quality of his administration.

Yesterday both Mr Johnson and Mr Parker insisted that their parting had been mutually agreed, although sources told The Times that there had been clashes between the millionaire businessman and other senior advisers at City Hall.

Flying piece of art causes museum chaos in Switzerland

GENEVA (AFP) — A giant inflatable dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy blew away from an exhibition in the garden of a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a greenhouse window before it landed again, the museum said Monday.

The art work, titled "Complex S(expletive..)", is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 metres (yards) from the Paul Klee Centre in Berne before it fell back to Earth in the grounds of a children's home, said museum director Juri Steiner.

The inflatable turd broke the window at the children's home when it blew away on the night of July 31, Steiner said. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away.

Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display.

We’ve reached a point in our civilization where counterculture has mutated into a self-obsessed aesthetic vacuum. So while hipsterdom is the end product of all prior countercultures, it’s been stripped of its subversion and originality.

The “DJ” is keystroking a selection of MP3s off his MacBook, making a mix that sounds like he took a hatchet to a collection of yesteryear billboard hits, from DMX to Dolly Parton, but mashed up with a jittery techno backbeat.

Ever since the Allies bombed the Axis into submission, Western civilization has had a succession of counter-culture movements that have energetically challenged the status quo. Each successive decade of the post-war era has seen it smash social standards, riot and fight to revolutionize every aspect of music, art, government and civil society.

Now, one mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior has come to define the generally indefinable idea of the “Hipster.”
