We imagine the bumper stickers you might see 10 years from now. Wired staffers created many of the stickers on a truck bumper and "weathered" them. They put the stickers on a rented Chevy truck, smeared dirt on and added more wear and tear in image post-production.

Maybe this is why these vehicles never caught on as serious transportation, but the bizarre concept of the monowheel has captivated engineers for almost a century and a half.

Monowheel is popular for travel between remote Russian villages:

Just like other human-powered road vehicles of the time, early monowheels are powered either by pedals with a friction-transmission onto the outer wheel or hand-cranks directly connected to the wheel axle. There was also one idea of a horse-drawn monowheel:

The Republican nominee's advisers brush off the charges, arguing that the spot was meant to be a "creative" and "humorous" way of poking fun at Obama's popularity by painting him as a self-appointed messiah. But even this innocuous interpretation of the ad — which includes images of Charlton Heston as Moses and culled clips that make Obama sound truly egomaniacal

In the past, there wasn't much to do while Spybot scans your machine except sit and watch the status bar. Now, with version Spybot 1.4, there is a fun and simple game hidden as an Easter egg.

While the scanning processes, click the binoculars in the top left-hand corner next to "Search and Destroy." You will hear a horse neigh and a game grid similar to Minesweeper will appear. Get clicking and have fun!

MIT professor and Web star Walter Lewin swings from pendulums and faces down wrecking balls to show students the zany beauty of science.

At 71, he's likely missed his window for a shot at Cirque du Soleil, but the Netherlands-born MIT physics professor seems happy with his own high wire act -- revealing to students, in the most unorthodox ways, the beauty of science.

He will also, on other occasions, suck helium and continue his lecture sounding like a Dutch Daffy Duck to highlight the differences in the speed of sound in certain gases. He'll shoot across the classroom stage astride a bicycle mounted with fire extinguishers to demonstrate a rocket's change in momentum.

"It took me a decade to come to the realization," says Lewin at his MIT office, "that really what counts is not what you cover, but what counts is what you uncover."

Teachers must, he believes, engage students with action.

"You have to challenge [students]. You have to be a little fun.
