A day of skiing can leave a man chilled to the bone and so covered in mini-bruises people will think him the victim of midget hooliganism. Avoid debilitating discomfort with ski clothes from Kjus.

The icy brain-child of Norwegian World Champion skier Lasse Kjus, this eponymous skiwear was inspired by too many chilly days on the mountain, and the advent of bizarre-but-awesome micro-technologies. The first involves fabrics interwoven with tiny beads of wax that melt to store warmth, later releasing it when temperatures fall and the balls stiffen. The second innovation is a specialized polymer (ominously code-named d30) composed of molecules that move fluidly when at rest, but lock together during a sudden impact, hardening the clothes to protect you against errant ski poles/saplings/out-of-control, helmeted 10-year-olds.

SNOW SPORTS RETAIL SALES BUCK NATIONAL ECONOMIC TRENDS

McLean, VA (May 8, 2008) -- The snow sports products market grew by $280 million to reach $2.97 billion for the 2007.08 season, up from approximately $2.69 billion in all channels last season. Equipment sales were relatively flat in specialty shops and chain stores but increased by more than $40 million in online sales. Apparel sales increased by more than $100 million with snowboard tops and parkas selling very well in all channels. Kurt Widen, KJUS USA COO says, “The US market is challenging especially in these difficult economic times. However, snowfall is a great equalizer in our market, and early snowfall in the 07/08 ski season helped jump start sales in our segment. This along with strong sell through and continued growth in awareness of our relatively young brand positioned us well for the 08/09 order season where we saw a 27% increase over last year.”

she was wearing the coolest ski jacket I had ever seen. So the bro and I stalked her until we could see the logo on the coat. It was an R looking K, what logo is that? Then I started seeing various colors of this fabu coat all over the mountain. Turns out it's the collection from cutie patootie euro skier Lasse Kjus, hence the name Kjus (pronounced ch-jus).

The Last of Winter’s Ski Buys

And then there was the stretchy, fitted ski jackets from Kjus. Legend has it that the fabric is laser cut, and they're filled with all sorts of little jacket amenities. So even if I can't keep up with my son on the slopes, at least I'll look like I can. ;-)

I SAT AY MY computer the other day and went on a recruiting trip.
I make it an annual electron excursion to check what happened at various national championships and see if I can learn anything, so it made sense to combine that with a little window shopping. And we did learn a few things.

Norway
Norwegians really hate to go away. Thirty-eight-year-old Lasse Kjus got out of the garment factory — he has his name on a ski clothing line — dusted off the long boards and showed up to race. So did Truls Ove Karlsen, the latter winning both of his gate races, the former cruising to third in the downhill.
