Right now if I need to print something out or scan a document I need to switch the usb cords currently connected to my computer. Truth is, I need a USB hub. But why get any old boring USB hub when you can buy one that is in the form of R2D2 or Darth Vader? The good news is that George Lucas is releasing Darth Vader and R2D2 shaped USB hubs later this month for $66. The bad news is you’ll have to import them. Click the photo above to enlarge. Buffalo and Bandai has launched a special set of USB flash drives for all the Ultra Man and Rei Ayanami fans in Japan. The 2GB flash drives with movable legs make a perfect companion for your notebooks. Ultra Man is a very popular super hero in Japanese fiction. This fictional superhero features in many tokusatsu (special effects) television programs. The Ultra Man show, produced by Tsuburaya Productions, was broadcasted on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) from July 17, 1966 to April 9, 1967. Rei Ayanami is a fictional character from the Neon Genesis Evangel ion franchise. She is the First Child (First Children in the Japanese version) and pilot of the Evangel ion Unit 00.

Nokia in full buy-out of Symbian

Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia is paying 264m euros ($410m; £209m) to buy out the other shareholders in handset software firm Symbian.

Nokia, which already owns 48% of the UK-based firm, intends to develop its software to compete with Google's planned Android operating system.

Nokia said Sony Ericsson, Ericsson, Panasonic and Siemens had agreed to sell their stakes in Symbian.

It added that Samsung was also expected to accept the offer.

For its part, Symbian said the takeover was "a fundamental step" in the establishment of the Symbian Foundation, which is expected to start operating in the first half of 2009.

The foundation will bring together Nokia, AT&T, LG, Motorola, NTT Docomo, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone in collaboration on a new, royalty-free open software platform for mobile phones.

The news comes one day after reports that Google's Android platform for mobile phones had suffered delays.

Dion sang 'worst ever cover song'

clipper's remarks: Will Young was fourth with his cover of The Doors' Light My Fire, which reached number one in the UK top 40 charts in 2002, and The Mike Flowers Pops rounded off the top five with their cover of Oasis' Wonderwall.

In the list of best covers, The Beatles' rendition of Twist and Shout, first recorded by the Top Notes, was in second place, followed by the Guns N' Roses version of the Wings' song Live and Let Die.

Nirvana's cover of The Man Who Sold the World by David Bowie, and Muse's Feeling Good, made famous by Nina Simone, also appeared in the top five.

Dion sang 'worst ever cover song'

Celine Dion is responsible for the world's worst cover version, a poll of music experts has decided.

The Canadian star's rendition of the AC/DC track You Shook Me All Night Long was given the dubious honour in the Total Guitar magazine survey.

Editor Stephen Lawson said Dion's cover was "sacrilege".

The experts also judged the best cover versions, with Jimi Hendrix's performance of the Bob Dylan song All Along the Watchtower top of the list.

"Cover versions have never been bigger," said Mr Lawson.

Dion, 40, who performed You Shook Me All Night Long at a Las Vegas concert six years ago, never released the track as a single.

A Sugababes and Girls Aloud version of Walk This Way, a huge hit for Aerosmith and Run DMC, came second in the list of worst covers.

Westlife's 1999 version of the ballad More Than Words by rock band Extreme was third in the list.

'Shake up' for internet proposed

The net could see its biggest transformation in decades if plans to open up the address system are passed.

The net's regulators will vote on Thursday to decide if the strict rules on so-called top level domain names, such as .com or .uk, can be relaxed.

If approved, it could allow companies to turn their brands into domain names while individuals could also carve out their own corner of the net.

The move could also see the launch of .xxx, after years of wrangling.

Top level domains are currently limited to individual countries, such as .uk (UK) or .it (Italy), as well as to commerce, .com, and to institutional organisations, such as .net, or .org.

Arbitration process

Hundreds of new domain names could be created by the end of the year, rising to thousands in the future.

'Cost recovery'

"We are doing this on a cost recovery basis. We've already spent $10m on this," he said.

Mozilla prepares for Firefox 3 release and plans for 3.1

Mozilla has announced that June 17 is the official date of the much-anticipated Firefox 3 release. Developers and open source software enthusiasts are planning parties all over the world to celebrate the occasion. I'll be covering the release from Mozilla headquarters in Mountain View at the official Camp Firefox event.

Mozilla is encouraging users to participate, too, by helping the Firefox team set the record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. The total number of unique downloads that take place on release day will be submitted for potential inclusion in the Guinness World Records. Over a million users have already signed up to pledge their support.

Pisa's leaning tower 'stabilised'

Italy's famous leaning tower of Pisa has stopped moving for the first time in its 800-year history, engineers who have worked to stabilise it say.

The man in charge of the team monitoring the 26m euros (£20m; $40m) project says the tower should remain stable for at least another 200 years.

It took the team more than 10 years to stabilise the tower.

The work involved extracting some 70 tonnes of earth from the northern side to encourage the tower to right itself.

Title lost

The tower continued to move towards a more upright position when the work finished.

Now, though - seven years later and 48cm (19in) straighter - hi-tech monitors embedded in the soil beneath its foundations and in the tower itself show that it has stopped moving completely.

Even while it was being built, in the late 12th Century, workers noticed that it was starting to tilt. Their attempts to compensate resulted in the completed tower being very slightly bent.

Tokyo customs officer 'gives away' cannabis

Tokyo customs officer 'gives away' cannabis

An unsuspecting passenger who flew through Tokyo's Narita airport left with $10,000 worth of free cannabis thanks to a forgetful customs officer and a sniffer dog with an unreliable nose.

The officer stuffed 142g (five ounces) of the drug into the side pocket of a randomly selected black suitcase coming off an overseas flight into Narita yesterday so that the dog could get some practice at detecting drugs.

"The dog couldn’t find it and the officer also forgot which bag he put it in," a customs office spokeswoman said. "If by some chance passengers find it in their suitcase, we’re asking them to return it."

The spokeswoman quoted the unnamed 38-year-old officer as saying: "I knew that using passengers’ bags is prohibited, but I did it because I wanted to improve the sniffer dog’s ability."

He was reprimanded by the head of customs at Narita, Manpei Tanaka, who said: "This case was extremely regrettable. I would like to deeply apologise."
