I can't afford an underwater lens for my camera but wouldn't this create a neat effect for artistic purposes? Call it gross but even a vaseline sheen over the rubber. Could be a really cool effect.

MANKATO, Minn. - A jail guard has been suspended after allegedly thumping an inmate with a Bible.

James Lee Sheppard, 56, has been charged with two gross misdemeanors for allegedly swatting a Blue Earth County Jail inmate with the book, grabbing him by the throat and slamming him against steel bars on Feb. 8, according to the criminal complaint.

A video shows a guard entering the cell of inmate Jeremy Hansen, 26. The guard then takes Hansen's Bible and strikes him in the side of the face with the book. The two exchange words as the guard walks away, said Mankato Police Officer Allen Schmidt who watched the video.

The rest of the confrontation was not captured on video because of an object obstructing the camera. But the complaint states that Sheppard walked back toward Hansen, grabbed him and pushed him into the cell bars.

MASON, Ohio - A man wearing a woman's wig and a string bikini was charged with taking a drunken afternoon romp through a park, officials said.

Steven S. Cole, a 46-year-old volunteer firefighter, told an officer he was on his way to a Dayton bar to perform as a woman in a contest offering a $10,000 prize, the arrest report said.

He pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of drunken driving, public indecency and disorderly conduct.

Cole was arrested Tuesday after police received a report that an intoxicated man was walking and driving around Heritage Oak Park in Mason. Police said Cole was wearing a blond wig, pink flip-flops and a red-black-and-white striped bikini with the top filled out by tan water balloons.

His blood-alcohol test registered 0.174, more than twice Ohio's legal driving limit of 0.08, the arrest report said.

Cole has been a Wayne Township firefighter since 2000. Township officials said he will be placed on administrative leave.

Peepel turns your browser into a virtual desktop, complete with office applications, floating windows and a file system.

The current apps include a word processor, spreadsheet and calculator, with a mapping app just around the corner. What separates Peepel from the likes of Google Docs and Zoho is that it replicates a desktop environment: You can open multiple apps in multiple windows, all of which can be rearranged and resized to your liking. The environment is dynamic, too: The "PeepelPanel" toolbar that sits atop the screen changes depending on which application is active. There's also an icon-based task manager used to switch between apps (in case one is hidden behind another) and a file manager.

The apps themselves seem quite robust, and the Peepel environment is a snap to learn. I particularly like the "half-maximize" options, which let you put one window on the left and another on the right. (Hello, Windows?)

The Government's intention to ban experiments with hybridised animal-human embryos has come under fierce criticism from MPs, scientists and a phalanx of medical charities.

A letter delivered today to Tony Blair from 223 medical research charities warns that a ban on the creation of "chimera" embryos will hamper efforts to develop effective treatments for many incurable conditions. Scientists have proposed taking DNA from human skin cells and merging it with the cytoplasm - the non-nucleus part of the cell - of the unfertilised egg of a rabbit or cow.

They want to create stem cells from cloned embryos for studying conditions such as Parkinson's disease and motor neurone disease. However, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has postponed a decision on awarding licences until the Government clarifies its threat to ban such research.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Metallica may be a cool name for a heavy metal band, but a Swedish couple is struggling to convince officials it is also suitable for a baby girl.

Michael and Karolina Tomaro are locked in a court battle with Swedish authorities, which rejected their application to name their six-month-old child after the legendary rock band.

Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

The couple was backed by the County Administrative Court in Goteborg, which ruled on March 13 that there was no reason to block the name. It also noted that there already is a woman in Sweden with Metallica as a middle name.

The tax agency appealed to a higher court, frustrating the family's foreign travel plans.

Panama brews the biggest cup EVER!

PANAMA CITY (Reuters) - Panama's top coffee producer said it believes it has set a new record for the world's biggest cup of coffee, after brewing 750 gallons (2,840 liters) in a giant mug on Sunday.

Producer Cafe Duran used 300 pounds (136 kgs) of arabica coffee to brew a cup measuring 3 yards by 1.6 yards over four hours.

"We are really thrilled with this, Panama has done it!" Ricardo Duran, director-owner of the company, said to loud applause, fireworks and live tropical music.

The company will submit its record-breaking attempt to officials at Guinness World Records this month. The previous Guinness record was held by the United States for brewing 660 gallons (2,500 liters) in New York in 1994.

The initiative aims to draw attention to Panama's small but growing gourmet, estate-grown coffee industry, organisers said.

"And the coffee's actually damn tasty," said Irma Castillo, a Panama City resident sipping the hot drink as it was given away after the record attempt.

Delusions of grandeur - Fake volcano erupts in hotel pool

DULUTH, Minn. - An imitation volcano in a hotel and water park's swimming pool developed delusions of grandeur, forcing guests to flee to the parking lot in their bare feet and swimsuits.

The 20-foot-tall plastic volcano at the Edgewater Hotel and Waterpark started belching black smoke and shooting flames Thursday. The hotel manager said a malfunctioning internal speaker ignited the fire.

Firefighters helped put out the fire, but not before part of the volcano melted.

She finally held him in her frail arms, the son she has not seen since he was but 9 months old, and their long, 63 years apart simply evaporated into the air of the bustling airport terminal.

"That's my baby," whispered Anna Rogers, such wonder in her voice.

For that is the baby she never thought she would see again.

Her son, Andrzej Piekarski, was ripped from her arms during World War II when the Germans invaded Poland and forced her into a labour camp in Austria. She was already a young widow, her husband killed by the Nazis for his role as a partisan in the Polish underground, and so their baby was left to be raised by her mother-in-law.

She never imagined that she would have to wait more than 60 years to see him again.
