She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases.
On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things.
On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining room table by candle-light, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of spring-water.
When she had finished, she went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimp shells dipped in caviar into the hollow of the curtain rods.
She then cleaned up the kitchen and left. When the husband returned with
his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days.
Then slowly, the house began to smell.

They tried everything; cleaning, mopping and airing the place out.
Vents were checked for dead rodents and carpets were steam cleaned.

Air fresheners were hung everywhere. Exterminators were brought in to set
off gas canisters,

Baloo the bear, Leo the Lion and Shere Khan the tiger have the most unusual and unlikely friendship between them.

Living with the zoo's founders for the past eight years, Shere Khan, Baloo and Leo have now moved to a purpose built habitat

Rescued eight years ago during a police drugs raid in Atlanta, Georgia, the three friends were only cubs at the time and barely two months old.

They had been kept as status symbol pets by the drug barons.

Delivered to the Noah's Ark animal rescue centre in Locust Grove, Georgia, the decision was made to keep the youngsters together.

"We could have separated them, but since they came as a kind of family, the zoo decided to keep them together," said Diane Smith, assistant director of the Noah's Ark zoo.

"To our knowledge, this is the only place where you'll find this combination of animals together, they are our BLT, (bear, lion and tiger).

Norman Rockwell’s rosy illustrations of small town American life looked so photographic because his method was to copy photographs that he conceived and meticulously directed, working with various photographers and using friends and neighbors as his models. “The Runaway” (1958) is one example from the recently published Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera (Little, Brown and Company, 2009). More about Rockwell’s photo realism, including an image gallery, is currently on NPR’s web site. The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusettes is also hosting an exhibition, and according to NPR, will put Rockwell’s digitized photographic archive online at the end of the year.

I've had this collection of pics for a while and they are so spectacular I thought I might share them...for those into such things.

These are all girls who performed in the Ziegfeld Follies in the 1910's-20's. Some went on to further careers on the stage and screen...some disappeared into obscurity.

But I love this era of portraiture and the very sensual nature of these women.

Post Pic David Bowie’s Response To First American Fan Letter

Well over forty years since David Bowie became a well known artist (now legend), a letter has surfaced online of what appears to be a response to his first fan letter from the great United States of America.

The letter that started it all was written by Sandra Dodd (Sandra Adams, back then) who was a 14 year old fan from an unknown location in the states. Bowie’s writing is sincere and gives you brief glimpse at Bowie before he had the world in his hands for the taking.

The letter’s on PITT stationery which was the manager’s stationery (Kenneth Pitt). Oddly Sandra never bought another Bowie album as her musical tastes had shifted toward folk music. Can you blame her though? The hippie revolution was about to start without her.

Young entrepreneurs are cashing in qlon legal marijuana 'colleges' in the qlUnited States, writes Peter Carlson.

OK, before we delve into Med Grow Cannabis College and its myriad innovations in marijuana education, let's get the dumb dope jokes out of the way.

Yes, the college does give new meaning to the phrase "higher education". But those who run the school are serious about their pedagogical mission – to train participants in Michigan's newly legalised medical marijuana program in the finer points of growing and cooking weed.

"People assume it's a wild environment because of the stereotypes about marijuana," says Perry Belcher, who teaches the history of cannabis at Med Grow, "but it really is a place of education."

Right now 16 students are sitting at wooden desks, jotting notes while Todd Alton delivers a lecture in his Horticulture 1010 class.

Even at that low concentration, CO2 absorbs infrared radiation and acts as a greenhouse gas, as physicist John Tyndall demonstrated in 1859. The chemist Svante Arrhenius went further in 1896 by estimating the impact of CO2 on the climate; after painstaking hand calculations he concluded that doubling its concentration might cause almost 6 degrees Celsius of warming—an answer not much out of line with recent, far more rigorous computations.

Within the community of scientists and others concerned about anthropogenic climate change, those whom Inhofe calls skeptics are more commonly termed contrarians, naysayers and denialists. Not everyone who questions climate change science fits that description, of course—some people are genuinely unaware of the facts or honestly disagree about their interpretation. What distinguishes the true naysayers is an unwavering dedication to denying the need for action on the problem, often with weak and long-disproved arguments about supposed weaknesses in the science behind global warming.

What follows is only a partial list of the contrarians' bad arguments and some brief rebuttals of them.

Claim 1: Anthropogenic CO2 can't be changing climate, because CO2 is only a trace gas in the atmosphere and the amount produced by humans is dwarfed by the amount from volcanoes and other natural sources. Water vapor is by far the most important greenhouse gas, so changes in CO2 are irrelevant.

Undercover Investigation Shows the Horrors of the Pork Industry

clipper's remarks: You don’t have to be a licensed veterinarian to understand the level of suffering these animals endured before being haphazardly slaughtered for pork products that were sent to stores in New England including Shaws, Hannaford and Stop and Shop under the brand name Hatfield’s.

While abuse of this nature is commonly associated with factory farming, much of what’s depicted in the footage are standard industry practices on any farm, large or small, from the confinement of gestation crates so small they cause sores to mercilessly killing the runts of the litter.

“What we documented is standard and largely accepted by the pork industry and as a civilized society it’s our moral obligation to make sure animals don’t suffer needless cruelty. It’s important we look at these animals the same way we look at dogs and cats because there is no difference. They feel the same pain, the same joy our beloved animals at home do,” said Daniel Hauff, MFA Director of Investigations.

This week Fox News released yet another undercover investigation with video footage provided by Mercy for Animals of the cruelty inflicted on pigs at Country View Family Farms in Fannettsburg, Pennsylvania.

The video coverage was disturbing and heartbreaking to say the least, with workers tossing piglets around like footballs, leaving sick and injured animals untreated and continuing to use gassing equipment to kill piglets when they knew it was faulty and causing unnecessary pain and suffering.

"I can state unequivocally that the pigs in this facility suffered immensely...These people showed complete disregard for the welfare or well-being of the pigs," said Dr. Nedim C. Buyukmihci, Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California.
