THE VITALITY OF MYTH

The Vitality of Myth

Consider one of the principal characteristics of our mythologies-I am thinking of the biblical mythology whether of the Hebrew or the Latin Christian tradition. The characteristic of these mythologies, the mythology of the Bible, is that the imagery of myth is, in these, interpreted as having historical reference.

The real reference of mythology is to the spirit, to the psyche-right in here. [Points at chest.] The way a society grips its members, and holds them to the tasks of the society, is by enabling people to project their own inward mythic potentials into the context of the society in which they are living.

But when the context of the society has changed, then we need a new mythology-the same great themes, because there are permanent, universal themes which are the base, the ground of all mythological lore. But these themes then have to be related to an environment in which the individual is living.

<clipSource>http://www.parabola.org/currenthighlights/the-vitality-of-myth</clipSource>

Peace in a modern world

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.srichinmoybio.co.uk

Peace in the Modern World

The modern world with its many fascinations, distractions and temptations can give us many things, but the humblest of all goals – our own inner peace – seems the one illusive thing beyond our reach. Yet, to attain inner peace it is not necessary to go back in time or visit the timeless Himalayan caves. Peace is perfectly compatible with modern life, if we learn how to harness the values of peace to the dynamism of modern life.

<clipSource>http://www.srichinmoybio.co.uk/blog/category/inner-peace/</clipSource>

Life lessons you can learn from children

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.srichinmoybio.co.uk

Life lessons you can learn from children

It’s rather amazing that as children we perpetually look forward to the time when we grow up and can do anything we want, but then once we grow up and become laden with responsibilities, we wistfully look back to those carefree childhood days! Certainly we ‘miss’ out on some things as we make the transition to adulthood; by looking at how children see the world, we can certainly learn (or relearn) some things to introduce in our own lives….

I know not how I may seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering upon the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small bright pebble to content myself with”

- Plato

<clipSource>http://www.srichinmoybio.co.uk/blog/life/life-lessons-you-can-learn-from-children/</clipSource>

Keeping things in Perspective

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.srichinmoybio.co.uk

Keeping Things in Perspective

A sense of perspective is vital to keeping sane and avoid small problems that can unnecessarily overwhelm us. If we lose perspective we can end up worrying for hours about things that may never even happen. To keep things in perspective it is particularly important to live in the present moment and avoid being overwhelmed by fears and concerns about the future.

See Things from other people’s point of view.

This is something that can be quite difficult to do. When we feel aggrieved at a situation or person, try to place yourselves in their shoes and try to understand their motivations and actions. We don’t necessarily have to agree and sympathise with them. But, if we can really look at an issue from other people’s perspective we can sincerely understand a very different perspective on the issue. This will help us be more sympathetic in our judgement and response.

<clipSource>http://www.srichinmoybio.co.uk/blog/inspiration/keeping-things-in-perspective/#comment-804</clipSource>

The Lost Docttrines of Christianity

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: reluctant-messenger.com

The Lost Doctrines of Christianity

Ancient
writings were discovered in 1945 which revealed more information about the concept of
reincarnation from the sect of Christians called "Gnostics". This sect was
ultimately destroyed by the Roman orthodox church, their followers burned at the stake and
their writings wiped out. The writings included some long lost gospels, some of
which were written earlier than the known gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The
Gnostic Christians claimed to possess the correct definition of "resurrection" -
based on Jesus' secret teachings, handed down to them by the apostles.
The existence of a secret tradition can be found in the New
    Testament:

Thoughts are visitors, who visit the central station of the mind. They come, stay a while, and then disappear, making space for other thoughts. Some of these thoughts stay longer, gain power, and affect the life of the person thinking them.

It is of vital importance to be careful of what goes into the subconscious mind. Words and thoughts that are repeated often get stronger by the repetitions, sink into the subconscious mind and affect the behavior, actions and reactions of the person involved.

<clipSource>http://www.successconsciousness.com/index_00004b.htm</clipSource>

The Many faces of God

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.themanyfacesofgod.com

Spirituality - Can you imagine...?

Spirituality in the world! Recent advances in cellular science are heralding an important evolutionary turning point. For almost fifty years we have held the illusion that our health and fate were preprogrammed in our genes, a concept referred to as genetic determinacy. Though mass consciousness is currently imbued with the belief that the character of one's life is genetically predetermined, a radically new understanding is unfolding at the leading edge of science.

Cellular biologists now recognize that the environment, the external universe and our internal physiology, and more importantly, our perception of the environment, directly controls the activity of our genes. This video will broadly review the molecular mechanisms by which environmental awareness interfaces genetic regulation and guides organismal evolution.

Bruce Lipton - The New Biology - Where Mind and Matter Meet 2o f2.avi

<clipSource>http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-6568107389365915765</clipSource>

is it your job that makes you worthwhile?

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.thisislondon.co.uk

Why do we believe that our job is what makes us worthwhile people?

The first question we tend to ask of new acquaintances is not where they come from or who their parents were, but what they do - for we presume that we'll thereby to discover the core of their identity.

<clipSource>http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/lifestyle/article-23715781-why-do-we-believe-that-our-job-is-what-makes-us-worthwhile-people.do</clipSource>

Victim Mentality

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.hodu.com

Eliminating Our Own
Victim Mentality

Can you imagine what a difference it would make to our self-esteem, creative productivity, and overall happiness if we were free of a victim mind-set? We're often simply unaware of the power that's in our hands. Here's invaluable advice for couples, friends, parents, family members and professional colleagues.

For all of us:

Victim mind-set erases choice

The problem: We slip easily into victim mentality when we we try to get exactly what we want in less than ideal circumstances and when we can't, we allow ourselves to be trapped in no-win choices. Often, we aren't even willing to consider any choice other than the ideal choice. When we are in victim mentality, we don’t see the range of choices we have and we wallow in resentment. We feel helpless.

Humility is not clothing
ourselves in an attitude of self-abasement or self-denigration.
Humility is all about maintaining our pride about who we are,
about our achievements, about our worth - but without arrogance -
it is the antithesis of hubris, that excessive, arrogant pride
which often leads to the derailment of some corporate heroes, as
it does with the downfall of the tragic hero in Greek drama. It's
about a quiet confidence without the need for a meretricious
selling of our wares. It's about being content to let others
discover the layers of our talents without having to boast about
them. It's a lack of arrogance, not a lack of aggressiveness in
              the pursuit of achievement.

<clipSource>http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newLDR_69.htm</clipSource>

What is Primordial soup?

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.wisegeek.com

What Is Primordial Soup?

When the Earth first formed, it did not contain any organic material. Yet, here we are, billions of years later, demonstrating that at some point, inorganic material turned into organic material. This process is known as "abiogenesis," and it would theoretically be extremely difficult.

Conditions on Earth in its early years were very different than they are now. The atmosphere contained no oxygen, and it was rich in things like hydrogen, ammonia, methane, and water. According to the primordial soup theory, these substances were primed to produce amino acids, which would have been able to combine to create organic material which could have eventually given rise to life. In order for this to occur, there needed to be a catalyst; amino acids did not emerge spontaneously.

<clipSource>http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-primordial-soup.htm</clipSource>

Freeplay

clipped by: JULIE PENKOVA

Clip Source: www.freeplaynetwork.org.uk

How can we make children's perspectives visible and audible in order
to be the starting point for change?
This pilot study has set out to explore with three and four years
olds in a preschool their understandings and uses of outdoor provision,
in order to inform change. It has used the Mosaic approach which
combines the traditional research tools of observation and interviewing
with participatory methods, including the use of cameras, map making
and child-led tours (Clark and Moss, 20011 ).

<clipSource>http://www.freeplaynetwork.org.uk/new/pccac.htm</clipSource>
