We've just learned Michael Jackson was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Los Angeles ... and we're told it was cardiac arrest and that paramedics administered CPR in the ambulance ... and it's looking bad.

He was picked up at his home around 20 minutes ago -- we're told his mother is on the way to visit him.

UPDATE: The 911 call came in at 12:21PM at his Holmby Hills home in L.A.

UPDATE: A Jackson family member tells TMZ Michael is in "really bad shape" and the brothers are headed to UCLA.

UPDATE: We just got off the phone with Joe Jackson, Michael's dad, who says "he is not doing well."

Screen star Fawcett dies aged 62

Actress Farrah Fawcett, who became an icon of 1970s US television, has died of cancer in Los Angeles aged 62, her spokesman has confirmed.

Her battle with illness was chronicled in the television documentary Farrah's Story earlier this year.

Her partner Ryan O'Neal said: "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away."

He was said to be by her beside when she passed away in a Los Angeles hospital.

The star's former Charlie's Angels co-star Jaclyn Smith said: "Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith."

The actress, who played Kelly Garrett in the hit TV series, added: "And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels."

Cheryl Ladd, who played Kris Munroe in the show, said: "I'm terribly sad about Farrah's passing. She was incredibly brave, and God will be welcoming her with open arms."

Her death has come just weeks her TV documentary was broadcast.

Teenage babysitter 'beat toddler to death'

A teenage babysitter beat a two-year-old girl to death while her mother was out shopping, a court has been told. Skip related content

The 15-year-old boy - who is not a relation but cannot be named for legal reasons - inflicted 68 injuries on Demi Leigh Mahon in 90 minutes on July 15, 2008, a jury at Manchester Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Howard Bentham QC said doctors believed the child was punched repeatedly in the face before she died. Paramedics who went to her aid said she showed signs of having suffered brain damage as a result of being attacked.

Demi Leigh's mother, Ann Marie McDonald, told the jury she left her daughter while she popped out to pick up her child benefit at around 2.30pm.

She said about 90 minutes later when she returned he was standing outside the house in Eccles, Salford, and told her: "I picked her up - I might have hurt her - and she fell in the park."

The young woman's name is Neda Soltani - she was a 27 year old philosphy student.

Her life ended when she was murdered in front of her father (blue stripe shirt - picture) by a shot (AK-47 bullet) to her chest and heart.

An insane Baji Militia fanatic on a roof, singled her out in a crowd who were watching the protests from their quiet place on the sidewalk!

I hope that coward will get what he deserve one day soon!

Do you realize that Israel, with our backing, was instrumental in establishing Hamas? They had a purpose. It was to stop the PLO; to give the PLO a radical opposition to take them down.

Then, because that didn’t turn out very well (kind of like the way the villagers in the Frankenstein movie became murderous), we (America and Israel) insisted that elections be held (thinking that there would be no way that Hamas could win). But win they did and Hamas became the government (through free and fair elections).

Now why would someone elect “terrorists” as their leaders? (We could ask the same thing of ourselves).

My reaction is that one person’s terrorist, may be the other’s hero.

History (not that many Americans read, understand or even “care” about history) shows that we invent and make these “monsters”, then don’t like the outcome. Pawns to move weapons, fight our battles and suck up our money.

Lost Dog's Legacy in Animal Research

Last week, Slate magazine’s Dan Engber published a five-part series on animal research, extensively treating the dog-napping scandal that led Congress to pass the Laboratory Animal Welfare Act in 1966, and going on to consider its continuing implications.

Indeed, compelling issues like this were what gave rise to The HSUS in the first place. The founders had a vision for an organization that would take on the large-scale national cruelties that local humane societies had neither the reach nor the resources to confront. It's still the type of work we are doing today.

Not many today remember Pepper, a dog who went suddenly and tragically from cherished family pet to forgotten laboratory animal, and died in a New York hospital while the Lakavage family desperately searched for her. But the public outrage that ensued over Pepper’s disappearance and death, and that of other family pets, helped place scrutiny on the use of dogs in biomedical research.

During the 1994 genocide, Rwandan women were subjected to massive sexual violence, perpetrated by members of the infamous Hutu militia groups known as the Interahamwe. Among the survivors, those who are most isolated are the women who have borne children as a result of being raped. Their families have rejected both them and their children, compounding their already unimaginable emotional distress.

No existing government or NGO programs have been created to support children born from rape and the specific needs of their mothers. Foundation Rwanda was established to improve the lives of these children by:

1) providing funding for their secondary school education,
2) linking their mothers to existing psychological and medical support services, and
3) raising awareness about the consequences of genocide and sexual violence through photography and new media.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- A baby beluga whale has been born at the aquarium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The calf is the second born at the aquarium during the past year. Last June, Aurora became a grandmother when her daughter Qila gave birth to a calf named Tiqa.

"Aurora seemed to take it all in stride, her eyes were open, she just looked nice and relaxed."

Aurora's water broke Sunday morning, and several hours later, the calf's tail could be seen peeking out.

"And then she had big pushes, big contractions, and about half the calf would come out and she would hold it for a few seconds and the calf would pop back in again," said Wright.

Wright said Aurora and the new calf will be separated from the other whales at first.

But that will likely be short-lived

Aurora is an experienced mother

The aquarium abandoned its direct-capture policy after it acquired Aurora, and now only accepts whales and dolphins that have been injured or born in captivity.

Johns died at George Washington University Hospital.

"There are no words to express our grief and shock over these events," the museum said in a statement, describing Johns as "an outstanding colleague who greeted us every day with a smile."

Johns, a 1988 graduate of Crosslands High School in Temple Hills, lived in an apartment in the Temple Hills area. Friends said he had a son.

"It's a heavy loss," said Assane Faye, the Washington district director of the Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America.

Faye said that during contract negotiations with Wackenhut two years ago, the union pressed for company-issued protective vests. Although Wackenhut seemed open to the idea, vests have not been issued, Faye said.

Stephen T. “Big John” Johns joins the long line of men and women who have given up their lives for others. Washington Post suggests he didn’t have time to react before he was shot by a deranged, hatemongering killer. Two fellow security guards opened fired and took down the gunman. The guards’ union had been pushing contractor Wackenhut for body armor. Sounds like, given the times we live in, any facility considered sensitive enough to merit armed guards should correct that deficiency.
