She first came to public attention in 2006 as "AJ," the pseudonymous subject of a paper in the journal Neurocase entitled "A Case of Unusual Autobiographical Remembering." The lead author, James L. McGaugh, a professor of neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine, spent five years bombarding Price with psychological, neurological and physiological tests to investigate what was going on inside her otherwise quite ordinary mind. He coined a new term for her condition, "hyperthymestic syndrome." It means "overdeveloped memory," but of a very particular kind. Price has no special aptitude for memorizing lists of words or numbers, or for facts or stories or languages. She was an average student. What Price does remember—obsessively, uncontrollably and with remarkable accuracy—is stuff that happened to her.

<clipSource>http://www.newsweek.com/id/136334</clipSource>

Were Neanderthals a separate species?

clipped by: Goldwolf

Clip Source: www.physorg.com

<img src="http://clipmarks.com/image_cache/Goldwolf/512/EAB30B6E-C20F-4AD6-984F-25141F3E7189.jpg" alt="A wax figure representing a Neanderthal man on display at a museum. anatomically modern humans are known, rather than offshoots of the same species,
the new organigram published by the journal Nature declares

The method, invented by evolutionary analysts in Argentina, marks a break with
the conventional technique by which anthropologists chart the twists and turns
of the human odyssey.

That technique typically divides the the genus
Homo into various classifications according to the shape of key facial features
-- "flat-faced," "protruding-faced" and so on.

Reconciling these diverse
classifications from a tiny number of specimens spanning millions of years has
led to lots of claims and counter-claims, as well as much confusion in the
general public, about how we came to be here.

Tags: hominids

<clipSource>http://www.physorg.com/news129132016.html</clipSource>

The war that time forgot: 37 years ago

clipped by: righthand
clipper's remarks: 400,000 females raped!

Clip Source: www.guardian.co.uk

The war that time forgot

The Bangladesh war was one of the 20th century's bloodiest, yet outside the region, little is known about it. Now, 37 years on, an exhibition records the painful birth of a nation

independence from Pakistan, the people of Bangladesh began to reckon with the human cost of their new nation

As they took account of what they had won and what they had lost, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the independence movement leader who became the first prime minister of Bangladesh, urged his people to embrace the many thousands of women who had been raped by Pakistani soldiers

Tags: rape, asia, war, history, females

<clipSource>http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/gallery/2008/apr/10/bangladesh1971?picture=333461453</clipSource>

Good girl

clipped by: JohnWaterman

Clip Source: www.anthonyjudelawrence.com

<clipSource>http://www.anthonyjudelawrence.com/wp-content/uploads/image/smackdown.gif</clipSource>

Smallest Planet Discovered

clipped by: joshua_kwoon

Clip Source: news.yahoo.com

                                        Smallest extrasolar planet discovered

                        MADRID (AFP) -
Spanish astronomers Wednesday announced the discovery of the smallest planet discovered to date outside the solar system, located 30 light years from earth.

The planet, "GJ 436T", was detected through a new technique which "will allow us to discover in less than 10 years the first planet resembling earth in terms of mass and orbit," said Ignasi Ribas of Spain's CSIC scientific research institute.

"GJ 436T" has a mass five times the size of Earth, which makes it the smallest extrasolar planet among the roughly 300 identified so far

the new planet is uninhabitable due to the distance that separates it from its star

To sustain life, a planet must have a mass similar to that of earth, liquid water on its surface, an atmosphere and a similar orbital distance from its star as that of the earth from the sun.

"GJ 436T" rotates in 4.2 earth days and orbits its star every 5.2 days.

<clipSource>http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080409/sc_afp/spaceastronomyplanets_080409190123</clipSource>

the Next Civil Rights Battle Will Be Over the Mind

clipped by: wildcat
clipper's remarks: "To a certain extent, memories are societal properties," says Adam Kolber, a visiting professor at Princeton.
"We really need to articulate a moral code that governs all this," warns Arthur Caplan, a University of Pennsylvania bioethicist.

Clip Source: www.wired.com

We think of our brains as the ultimate private sanctuary, a zone where other people can't intrude without our knowledge or permission. But its boundaries are gradually eroding. Hypersonic sound is just a portent of what's coming, one of a host of emerging technologies aimed at tapping into our heads. These tools raise a fascinating, and queasy, new ethical question: Do we have a right to "mental privacy"?

"We're going to be facing this question more and more, and nobody is really ready for it," says Paul Root Wolpe, a bioethicist and board member of the nonprofit Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics. "If the skull is not an absolute domain of privacy, there are no privacy domains left." He argues that the big personal liberty issues of the 21st century will all be in our heads — the "civil rights of the mind," he calls it.

But this isn't just about reading minds; it's also about bombarding them with messages or tweaking their chemistry

Tags: civil rights, mind, privacy, ethics

<clipSource>http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/magazine/16-04/st_thompson</clipSource>

No mention of Building 7 in 9-11official report

clipped by: kkcapricorn
clipper's remarks:
The Twin Towers also came straight down into their own footprints very quickly in less than 12 seconds each in a similar controlled fashion.

Most certainly a scientific investigation is called for to examine the scientific facts surrounding the probable implosion of WTC 7.

Please carefully consider that scientific facts once officially revealed to the nation can free the American people, their Congress, and their President, from the constant fear and terror generated by and since 9-11.

References:

1.

Researchers from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto believe that Type 1 diabetes -- the most serious form of the disease that usually appears in childhood -- is caused by malfunctioning pain nerves that surround cells in the pancreas.

In patients suffering from Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas fails to produce sufficient levels of insulin, causing inflammation November 12, 2007—A massive clay temple with colorful paintings and an altar for fire worship has recently been unearthed in northern Peru, archaeologists announced Saturday.

The temple dates back 4,000 years and is among the oldest sites discovered in the Americas, said archaeologist Walter Alva, who led the team that made the find.

The temple was built by an "advanced civilization" that predated the Inca by several centuries, Alva told the Reuters news service.

"This discovery shows an architectural and iconographic tradition different from what has been known until now," he said.

The large, vibrant wall paintings found at the site are likely the oldest murals ever found in the Western Hemisphere, he added.

Some of the paintings feature red-and-white designs, and one depicts a deer being hunted with a net.

The large temple complex was unearthed near the city of Lambayeque, about 470 miles (755 kilometers) from the modern capital of Lima.
