The Washington Post isn’t the only daily D.C. newspaper to rave about Sandra Bernhard’s anti-Palin ranting. Wednesday’s Washington Examiner joined in, with the headline "Comedienne delivers enraged optimism." Barbara Mackay claimed "in the end, oddly and subtly, Bernhard’s message is positive."

In fact, the play wears its politically VERY correct heart on its sleeve with its indictment of America as "A Man’s World, It’s a White Man’s World, It’s a F–ked Up White Man’s Racist World" and can only be suggested to be racist in its content if one is hell-bent on protecting White Folk for Sandra’s blistering indictment.When Sandra warns Sarah Palin not to come into Manhattan lest she get gang-raped by some of Sandra’s big black brothers, she’s being provocative, combative, humorous, and yes, let’s allow, disgusting.

Cancer doc urges cell phone precaution

The tumor immunologist's words are grabbing widespread attention both because of his professional position and because they contradict numerous studies that don't find a link between cancer and cell phone use.

"Recently, I have become aware of the growing body of literature linking long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer," he says. "Although the evidence is still controversial, I am convinced that there are sufficient data to warrant issuing an advisory to share some precautionary advice on cell phone use."

SciFi Opera

David Cronenberg's 1986 SF horror movie The Fly has been adapted as an opera, with tenor Placido Domingo conducting a score by Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings), the Associated Press reported.

Cronenberg himself is directing the opera, which will have its world premiere on July 2 at Paris' Theatre du Chatelet and its U.S. premiere Sept. 7 at the Los Angeles Opera.

Shore also wrote the film's original music but sampled only two themes from his 1986 score.

The libretto is by David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly), and the plot sticks to the same basic lines as the film, about reporter Veronica Quaife and eccentric scientist Seth Brundle, who undergoes a horrific transformation after teleporting himself with a housefly.

Uncle Spy Wants You

Last week the House of Representatives passed a "compromise" amendment to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, though it sounds like the only things that have been compromised are our Constitutional rights. Now the Senate is poised to do the same.

Unfortunately, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 adds little to existing FISA laws save for one very big thing: immunity for telecoms that violated FISA laws on orders from the White House. Essentially, all Ma Bell and her bastard offspring need to do is present a note that says Uncle Sam made them do it, and the 40-odd lawsuits pending against them vanish.

This rewards companies like AT&T and Verizon that failed to stand up to orders of questionable legality, while punishing companies like Qwest who declined the government's requests. Imagine the cojones it took to say no to the NSA. What are the odds anyone's likely to do that again?

The RIAA has voluntarily dismissed Warner v. Cassin, the White Plains, New York, case in which a motion to dismiss the complaint has been pending since July, 2007.

Substantial briefing had taken place in the case over the "making available" issue, and further rulings were brought to the court's attention on the subject from such cases as Atlantic v. Brennan, Interscope v. Rodriguez, Elektra v. Barker, Arista v. Does 1-21, Atlantic v. Howell, and Capitol v. Thomas.

How could I possibly be richer than John D. Rockefeller?

So, if we change the way we think of “wealth” and consider our standard of living and compare it to Rockefeller’s - I would say we are doing pretty good. In fact, I would go as far to say the majority of the U.S. lives an all-around more “comfortable” life than Rockefeller did. Who then, is actually richer?
