For an odd-looking, big-nosed antelope on the steppes of Central Asia, the threat of extinction is just a whiff away.

The saiga, a rare animal with a body like a deer and a head resembling that of a camel, has seen its numbers plummet over the past 20 years, scientists say.

Growing demand for its horns as an ingredient in traditional Chinese medicines has led to rampant poaching, driving the animal's once million-strong population down by 95 percent, experts note.

And now a new study finds yet another threat to the saiga's survival: a "bottleneck" in its migration route that is threatening its seasonal movement in search of food and water.

The results showed that the corridor connecting the saiga's two main populations was a mere three miles (five kilometers) wide and is being encroached upon by traffic from herders, trucks, and motorcycles.

WCS is working with the Mongolian government to protect this narrow corridor, Berger added, to help keep the saiga moving.

The remarkably well-preserved fossil of a dinosaur-era sea creature found in a Canadian mine is turning out to be a gold mine for paleontologists.

The Cretaceous-period reptile, dubbed Nichollsia borealis, is not only a new species—it represents a whole new genus

It's also one of the oldest and most complete plesiosaur fossils ever unearthed in North America.

carnivorous reptiles that roamed the seas between about 205 million to 65 million years ago

The scans and other analyses of the reptile have provided more detail than for any other plesiosaur ever found, they said.

The newfound reptile also gave them a window into an ancient seaway that once cut through North America and teemed with marine life.

"It represents the oldest known forerunner of this amazing period in North American prehistory."

Bigfoot's body has been found, according to two Georgia men who, with much media fanfare, showed reporters three blurry photos said to depict the creature at a press conference held today at a hotel a few miles from Stanford University

The promised evidence for Bigfoot DNA turned out to be an e-mail from Curt Nelson, a University of Minnesota scientist who analyzed DNA samples provided by the two men. Nelson said one of the samples came from a human, the other from an opossum. The presenters sidestepped the issue by saying that is what their Bigfoot must have recently consumed

photographs of the body, supposedly stored in a freezer, resemble a widely available Halloween costume

So here these men are in Georgia, which is home to the world-renowned Yerkes Primate Center, and what do they do? They turn to a charlatan instead

Millions of people across Britain will be shocked and horrified by the news that the fascist British National Party (BNP) has managed to grab an assembly seat in London – one of the most multiracial and diverse cities of the world.

Children who used to sift refuse on a huge Filipino rubbish dump are receiving an education, and even ballet classes, with the help of a British woman.

The clashes erupted after President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the December 27 election, which many observers describe as flawed. Opposition candidate Raila Odinga rejected the result, saying the vote had been rigged.

Much of the violence has pitted tribes—including Odinga's Luo against Kibaki's Kikuyu people—against each other. The clashes have claimed over 850 lives so far, according to the Associated Press.

Life as usual. What does that look like, I wonder? It wouldn't be starvation, fuel shortage, water shortage, disease, regular raids, blockade and occupation, would it? It would? Ah. Alright so.
