clipper's remarks: There is no doubt that when a first term senator, without a credible achievement, who proved himself incompetent at the mere act of casting a vote as a State Senator, who is the most Leftist member of the Senate and all of Congress, who talks about sacrifice while giving 1% of his windfall salary to charity, who will not talk about his record, agenda, or be "distracted" by questions of his intended policies, who has befriended a terrorist and racist preacher, who has a wife that says there is a "veil of impossibility" in America ( She went to Yale, remember), who is an adherent of Black Lib (marxist) Theology, who never worked in Business or Industry, never managed a company, and never served his country. A man who whips his naive supporters up using tactics, imagery, and organic unity not seen since the early 1930's. The American People are in fact the problem when this is the man that one of the major parties in the US seems to believe is fit to be President of the U.S.

In a national epidemic of individual irresponsibility, it has become a national pastime to accuse politicians of destroying America, but it is the American people who are the real problem.

When the American vote was not for sale, it could not be purchased at any price. When most Americans were real patriots, “a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion” – they were not so easily fooled by promises of free benefits (paid for by others) and snake oil salesmen promising dancing sugar plums from the campaign stage.

Politicians are nothing more than a manifestation of the perceived will of the people. Politicians pander. Most politicians don’t care what they have to promise to purchase your vote, so long as your vote is for sale.

Jefferson warned, “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

Yet by 2008, our government has perfected the art of wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

As American soldiers die to guarantee others around the world, the right to individual self-determination, average Americans back home are trading their individual right of self-determination for an alleged greater good, the right to the earnings of others, in the name of economic equality.

Americans are passing their individual powers to define and pursue individual economic conditions to the state, the federal bureaucracy, under the guise of a greater communal good, whereby the state becomes the central arbiter of individual worth.

Many Americans have bought into a greater good sold as “economic equality.” This is the cancer that is bringing freedom’s reign to an end. The quest for political power to rule over the lives of others has driven politicians to seek ever increasing power over what were once private earned resources.

Individual votes have been divided into voting blocs and those blocs are purchased with ideologically driven gifts from the treasury. As Thomas Jefferson pointed out so well, “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” It’s called Democratic Socialism today.

We will learn again...the hard way

Abraham Lincoln said it exactly right! But few Americans care to hear his words…

▪ You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

▪ You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

▪ You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

▪ You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

▪ You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

▪ You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.

▪ You cannot help men permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

In the end, the rich will remain rich, even if they have to move their assets to safe havens off-shore, which is already happening. But the rest will no longer be free.

History repeats itself only because people refuse to remember the lessons of their past.

Only one, who lives in bondage, is willing to give everything for freedom. And, so we will learn again...the hard way.

How Government Regulation effects oil prices at the pump

clipper's remarks: As is usually the case with government intervention into private enterprise the unexpected results are usually far worse than the original problem congress set out to solve. Doesn't anybody study history anymore? It was not that long ago that the same ideas were floating around congress during the Carter years. Anyone remember the odd even gas days and the long lines at the pumps because of the government forced oil shortages of the 70's

Among other mistakes from that period, the government increased the taxes levied on domestic oil producers, as if that would somehow help.

The result was “reduced domestic oil production from between 3 and 6 percent, and increased oil imports from between 8 and 16 percent.”

The government also instituted price controls, which only served to create the notorious gas shortages of that era. Yes, price controls meant consumers could get cheaper gas — but only after waiting in long gas lines and only if stations didn’t run out first.

When it comes to soaring gasoline prices, we need a federal government that does less.

We need fewer restrictions on domestic oil drilling.

The only reason not to drill is the environmental concerns.

We also need less regulatory red tape affecting refineries and gasoline supplies.

It would be worthwhile to streamline the regulations that make it all but impossible to build a new refinery and more difficult and time-consuming to expand an existing one.

Simplifying or eliminating the federal requirements that dictate the recipe (actually a dozen different recipes) for fuel also would help.

Worst of all the federal requirements is the one requiring that corn-based ethanol be mixed into the gasoline supply. Not only does ethanol use raise the cost of driving, but diverting corn from food to fuel has raised food prices, as well.

Congress needs to start undoing the damage it has done. If it enacts more of the same instead, get ready for $4 or even $5 gas.
