Would you like to learn to run? The Couch to 5 Kilometre (C25k) program from Cool Runnings is one of the most popular running programs on the net, and has helped thousands of people to build their running skills, fitness, and endurance. The program starts on week one with eight one-minute runs, interspersed with 90 seconds walking, and slowly builds up, until by week nine you are cruising through a thirty-minute run. You can find the original program here, and some more information about it here.

So I looked for, and found, a way to make my own personal MP3s with my own voice saying things like, “It’s almost time to run… are you ready? GO!” and my own choice of music in the background.

A British neuroscientist at Oxford University, Susan Greenfield, is warning that social networking sites such as Facebook, Bebo, MySpace and Twitter are damaging the brains of young people.

Among the damage being caused:

- Shortened attention spans
- A lack of empathy
- Need for validation from others

Ms. Greenfield also warns of a link between the rise of Internet use and increasing levels of Autism and ADHD.

Then you will see 99 Luftballons in German, the German translated into English and the lyrics as sung in English - not an exact translation as you will see. Very neat to see how it was changed for the English speaking listeners, yet retained the spirit of the original.

99 Luftballons, Side by Side Comparison

I thought a side by side comparision would be very interesting to see how the lyrics had to be changed to fit the meter of the song when it was translated into English from German. I'm not sure who wrote the original English lyrics, but they certainly did a good job at capturing the original spirit of the song. I think it's neat both versions work in Captin Kirk, even if they do come in different stanzas.

BatteryBar for Windows

Today’s Freeware of the Moment is a BatteryBar that does the same thing and works on any Windows PC. There is a full-featured free version that shows the remaining battery life in the taskbar and full information about the battery when you hover over the graphic. There is also a Pro version for $7.50 that supports some extra stuff like themes but I have not found a need to go that route.

BatteryBar is a great addition to the mobile computer toolkit and has worked flawlessly for me on Windows XP, Vista and even Windows 7. Give it a try and you’ll see how useful this simple little tool can be.

Turning Off Hyperlink Activation

Here's how you can turn off this activation so that your URLs remain as regular text. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003, and Excel 2007.)

Click the Office button and then click Excel Options. Excel displays the Excel Options dialog box.

Click Proofing at the left of the dialog box.

Click the AutoCorrect Options button. Excel displays the AutoCorrect dialog box.

Make sure the AutoFormat As You Type tab is selected. (Click here to see a related figure.)

Clear the Internet and Network Paths With Hyperlinks check box.

Click OK.

The steps to follow are different if you are using Excel 2002 or Excel 2003:

Choose AutoCorrect Functions from the Tools menu. Excel displays the AutoCorrect dialog box.
Make sure the AutoFormat As You Type tab is selected.
Clear the Internet and Network Paths With Hyperlinks check box.
Click OK.

using Excel 2000, your options are severely limited—Excel doesn't allow you to turn off the conversions

For those of you who don’t know what Delicious is, it is simply a one stop shop, for storing your bookmarks in one quick and easy location.

Scuttle is simply defined as a “Web-based social bookmarking system. It allows multiple users to store, share and tag their favorite links online.” It is an open-source del.icio.us alternative that requires only PHP and a MYSQL database from your web host. After installation, you’ll have a very similar look to what Delicious offers.

How to enable Wave Out recording in Vista

If you've ever tried to record streaming audio in Windows, like a Skype call or a webcast, you may be aware of a simple setting that allows you to record any sound playing through your computer's sound card. All you have to do is:

Select sound from the control panel.

Select the recording tab.

Right click on the background of the tab and choose "show disabled devices."

Right click on Wave Out Mix and click enable.

Now it should work the same way as Wave Out Mix in Windows XP, allowing you to record any sound your computer makes.
