I've had a number of enquires from readers who want to build (or buy) a cheap yet powerful PC. Can it be done? You bet! What components will you need to buy? Read on!

E4300 1.8GHz - $169

With very little tweaking at all (boosting the core voltage to around 1.4 to 1.465V) it's possible to get this $169 CPU purring at 3.0 - 3.1GHz and need nothing more than the stock cooler.

However, to overclock this CPU up to this level and still keep things stable you will need a decent motherboard.

National ID Card Regulations Issued

The Department of Homeland Security released long-delayed requirements for the standardization of state identification documents Thursday. States must start issuing the new internal passports by May 2008, or else their citizens will not be able to board planes or enter federal courthouses. Civil libertarians say the requirement, known as the REAL ID Act, creates a national identity card that presents significant privacy risks to Americans. Many states oppose the rule as an unfunded mandate and an encroachment on states rights.

The regulations are complex, ranging from the kinds of documents required to get a license, how states databases will interact, the required elements on a compliant I.D. document's face, how states need to store copies of your breeder documents, and how states can attempt to deal with homeless people and other cases, such as judges, police officers and victims of domestic violence and stalking.

End of Message or EOM signifies the end of a message, often an email. The subject of an e-mail may contain such an acronym to signify that all content is in the subject line so that the message itself does not need to be opened (e.g., "No classes Monday (EOM)"). This practice can save the time of the receiver and has been recommended to increase productivity.

EOM can also be used in conjunction with No Reply Necessary or NRN to signify that the sender doesn't require (or would prefer not to receive) a response (e.g., "Campaign has launched (EOM/NRN)"). These are examples of Internet slang.

We don't know why it took so damn long to get a clock that answers the simple question "What time is it?" Anna Nicole Smith Story Fans Give Media High Marks

News consumers still think the media are over-covering the death of Anna Nicole Smith, but apparently the quality of that over-coverage is better than the coverage of the war in Iraq, at least according to the news fan base for both stories.

That finding is based on a Pew Research Center poll in conjunction with the Project for Excellence in Journalism's ongoing news analysis of news sources on TV, radio, Internet and print.

According to the Pew poll of 100 adults 18-plus, of those who followed the Smith story very closely or fairly closely, two thirds said coverage was excellent or good, compared with only 40% giving the same marks to coverage of Iraq.

And how much you liked that war coverage apparently depends a lot more these days on your political philosophy.

Knowles Not Exposed to Hepatitis A

HOLLYWOOD - Beyonce Knowles was not exposed to hepatitis A at a recent celebrity bash celebrating her appearance on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed on Tuesday that guests at the Feb. 14 soiree were potentially at risk.

An employee of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who was working at the party, has been diagnosed with the disease.

Guests were advised by health officials to seek immediate medical treatment and get an immune globulin shot to prevent illness.

A representative for Knowles confirms to entertainment show Extra that the “Irreplaceable” singer is not at risk because she did not eat any food at the party.

HOLLYWOOD - Britney Spears stepped out for an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting last night wearing a band on her wedding ring finger, fuelling rumors she is reconciling with estranged husband Kevin Federline.

The "Toxic" singer left the Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California, for her first supervised outing.

The 25-year-old filed for divorce from Federline in November and kept her wedding ring finger bare while dating, but has been wearing a band on her left hand over the last week.

Despite the couple's rocky two-year marriage, a source close to Federline tells Us Weekly magazine that once Spears recovers, "Kevin wants to get back together with her.

"He is her biggest supporter."

On Feb. 24, just three days after the star checked into rehab, Federline, Spears' mother Lynne, and the couple's young sons, Sean, 17 months, and Jayden, six months, dropped by the facility for a two-hour visit.

The source adds, "It was a very emotional and happy family moment."

"American Idol" sex scandal may be short-lived

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A new sex scandal has hit "American Idol," U.S. TV's most popular program --- but it all could be over on Thursday night if a contestant purportedly shown in some X-rated Internet photos is voted off the show.

The anonymously posted images include those of a young woman lying on her back covered in rose petals, posing in her underwear, sitting on a toilet and sitting among a group of topless women on a beach, hands over their breasts. Others show a woman performing oral sex on a man.

Though all are purported to be images of Barba, none of the subjects of the photos has been positively identified.

Barba, a 20-year-old former college student from New Jersey, has kept mum about the photos. But her friend Amanda Coluccio, a fellow "American Idol" hopeful who was eliminated from the contest earlier this season, said that only the least graphic photos are of Barba.

The more provocative pictures are of someone else, she told the New Jersey Star-Ledger.

Caffeine has often been said to cause, exacerbate or cure an enormous variety of diseases and has been said to confer benefits both intellectually and physically. The problem with reporting on caffeine's relationship with health has been the myriad of conflicting reports that villify and commend caffeine. Simply put, there are difficulties interpreting caffeine's effects on the human body and its health. Not only are caffeine's effects difficult to isolate from the other substances that often accompany in food and drink, but, the method of preparation, the differences between types of coffee beans, different methods of roasting and consumption can also have varying effects on human health. Further compounding this difficulty is that there exists individual differences in sensitivity to caffeine. It is difficult to hold for all variables involved, therefore it must be emphasized that the results of any study should be treated with a critical eye.

But first, to be more precise, critics aren't specifically after coffee, but rather after caffeine - a "drug" that is included in such products as energy and soft drinks, and some chocolates.

And they might be up against history. It is said that the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung was once boiling some drinking water when leaves from a small bush fell into his pot - to create the first kettle of tea. The year was 2737. B.C. The history of a cup of java, however, is more recent - and said to date back to Africa in 575 AD. By the Eleventh Century coffee was served by Arabians, and hot chocolate was served by the Aztecs to the Spanish conquistadores.
